How to find the little purple gem

I have been trying since this weekend to find the little purple gem located in the shipwreck tank. Its supposed to be in the middle of the shipwreck. I have combed the place, but still cannot find it. If you do find it, does it pop up, or what happens. I have watched people say where its at and then they disappear from the tank, but when I go and stand where they were, nothing happens. Before I go in the tank, I double click the pin and then as I enter I say dive. Am I doing something wrong. Thanks, Awesome Allye

This may sound silly, but make sure you are on the right clue. I know I've done it where I need to go back and I get a step ahead of myself - looking for an item that hasn't shown up yet. (It will only show when you are on the clue that says to find the gem)

Some are well hidden, and others less so. If you know what they look like (purple diamond shape) they are easier to pick out.

I started to wonder if I was on the right clue also. I completed the Captains Quest Quarters, obtaining my diver pin. Next I go to the Shipyard Graveyard, click twice on the pin and then I change into my divers outfit. As I enter the tank, I say "dive." I have serched all over but still have not found the "dark purple gem." After I run out of air, a note pops up telling me to keep looking and then awarding me some points for stepping on the shell. Everyone keeps saying the gem is in the middle of the ship wreck. I have combed that ship wreck over, but not discovered anything. Thx for responding. Hope you can figure out if I'm doing this right.
