How to clean jacuzzi tub before first use?

I know I saw it here some time ago, but does anyone have a recipe for cleaning out the jacuzzi jets before I use it for the first time?

Here's one posted by DVC Lady some time ago:

"I use a cup of bleach and a 1/4 cup of cascade. Fill the tub with hot water, turn it on and pour the bleach and cascade in. Let it run for 15 mins, turn it off and let it soak for 10 mins. Turn it on and run it again for 5 mins. Drain it, then fill it back up and rinse for 10-15 mins.

If you do have black stuff coming out of the jets call housekeeping they will send someone with clorine tablets and clean the jets out. It's really strong stuff. You will have to leave the room while they do it. "

I do it this way: first you fill up the water until you FULLY cover all the jets, aim all the jets downwards and then you can put in vinegar or bleach and run it for a while. Then drain and rinse it by filling up the water again and run for a while. I hope this help.

If you aren't a total germaphobe (not that there's anything wrong with that) and you are in a hurry and/or lazy, just mix a small amount (just a splash - no more than 1 oz) of bleach in with the water the first time you use it. The bleach is essentially the same as the chlorine in a hot tub and should produce a satisfactory level of sanitation for most people.

That's my favorite answer -- with the kids, we skipped the candles/champagne, but we did throw in the big bath bomb from Basin! No problems!

Where do you get the bleach or vinegar? Not something I typically bring in my suitcase.

Yes... I think it has to do with carbon dioxide being an inhibitor of germs. I am pretty sure the bubbly in champagne is caused by carbon dioxide.

Okay... I am full of it... I don't have a clue.

Depending on how much you visit and/or if you have a Jacuzzi tub at home (which we do), Jacuzzi actually makes a cleaner that is very easy to use. It's found on the Jacuzzi website and is called Systems Clean. I just put some in my suitcase.

In the past, I've had a car so I pick up bleach with other supplies. I've used a grocery service too and ordered a small bottle of bleach. It's worth the $2 and I just leave the bleach in the villa laundry.

I always use the bleach and dishwasher detergent method. I don't have a whirlpool bathtub at home, but, do have a hot tub and a few years back when we had our hot tub serviced the repairman told me a story about a jacuzzi tub in a resort (not Disney) which really grossed me out and made me glad I do so all the time when staying somewhere. With either a hot tub or whirlpool bath, some of the water from the previous bather(s) actually lays in the lowest part of the tubing until next used. Therefore, when you don't clean the jets with a sanitizer you are literally "taking a bath" with whomever was in that tub before you.........no thanks!!!

Ewwwww that is so gross! We will be at SSR beginning tomorrow (yippee) and ordered a small bottle of bleach from Garden Grocer just in case. I am thinking that this was a good move now!

I am not a huge "germaphobe", I do not for example clean the entire villa before I use it. I do not, as some people do, wash all sheets and towels before using, or bring my own. But I will wash/clean something that I know does not get cleaned regularly, like jacuzzi jets. Especially if it involves me sitting in someone else's dirty bath water
