I will be traveling with my husband and two small children so there will be 4 of us. My older child who is 18 will be staying at a seperate resort with her friend. What is the best way to make reservations should we make it for 6 or two seperate ones. Would the restaurant take both groups cards even if we sit at the same table.

Do you mean splitting payment, or are both groups on the dining plan?

Disney restaurants will split the check any way you like.

If both groups are on the dining plan, each group will need to present a room key for their own party to have their credits subtracted.

Anyone can also make reservations for the entire party. You do not need to make separate reservations for each party unless you don't all want to eat together. If there are going to be six persons total, just make a reservation for six.

Thanks alot! Yes we would all be on the dining plan but two seperate reservations.

I am in the same boat as you! My older DD 21 wil be staying in a room with her cousin 20! My room is DH,me and DD 16 and DS 10. I made dinning resv. for 4 with our#. Then made dinning resv. for 2 . One reason to keep billing easier we are on the DP.

The section about tipping has been removed from the above post. Tipping may be discussed only on the Tipping Information Thread stuck to the top of the main Restaurant board. But the previous poster should know that the party of two will not be seated with the party of four. If you ask to be seated together or even near each other you might be considered one party if you have the same server, so if you're doing this to avoid the automatic tip be aware that might happen.

I was thinking of doing this at first because our resorts are so far apart and i didnt want to take the chance of waiting for the two girls incase they are late. I guess maybe i will book for a table of 6 and if they are late it is there problem.

We always paid a good tip while we were there so i dont think this will make a difference next time whether they automatically add it on or not. Maybe others dont give the recommended amount.

Consider that if you book for 6 they will often wait for your entire party to be present to seat you...so thats another consideration....and if you decide not to show up, pls cancel the reservation (its my "thing") as others may be trying to get that reservation!

Have a great YUMMY trip!

I have experience doing this. Thank goodness kids are now in late 20's/early 30's and can show up on time. But as late teenagers/early 20's, forget it. First trip I booked us together, after that I knew better (Boma wouldn't seat us for being 20 minutes late because one young lady couldn't get her hair to look right).

Personally, I'd book separate reservations. Let them eat where they want, when they want. I did it for years and it worked out so much better. I let them pick, I made the reservations for them but then if they didn't show up to eat, that was their problem.

If you book for 6 and they are running 10 minutes late, the 4 of you can't be seated until they show up. That gets old quickly.

Another question related to OPs question. We are traveling with extended family and not sure if they will want to eat out as much as us. Based on your above recommendations to OP I should make two separate reservations in case they don't want to eat with us. If they do want to eat with us, what are the chances we would be seated next to each other?

I think you are right on this i should probably book two seperate ressies. Plus i dont think my DH wants to hang out with my daughter & her friend the whole time for every meal. Maybe i will just split the ressies every other day or so which would probably be a good plan anyway.
