How to awaken a teenager

Squirt bottle, and a flip flop upside the head. ;)

It takes 3 alarm clocks for me to get up for morning shift, 2 in my bedroom and one on the landing just in case the others are turned off in my sleep (has happened). If I get woken up on night shift all bets are off.

This morning while we were all still asleep, I heard DH yell, "It's 8:30, we overslept!". Of course, I was the only one to fall for it. I glanced at my cell phone and it said 6:27, but with my sleepy eyes, it looked like 8:27. So I jumped out of bed and started turning lights on and DH told me he does that to them all the time and they know better than to even pay attention. I guess he was just loud about it this morning. It sure worked on me!

A long time ago, when we were first married, he couldn't get me to get out of bed (in all fairness, I was very pregnant and tired all the time). He threatened to get a glass of water and throw it on my face. I ignored him and kept my eyes closed. Then I heard the water turn on in the kitchen and he came back carrying a glass...I sat up and said "OK, I'm getting up now!" and he threw the empty glass towards me. I was so mad. But it got me out of bed. So you can use the water trick, without the water. You just have to be tricky about it.

very funny!! What I also find annoying is the teenage boy room smell!!
I have tried just about everything..glade plug-ins, cleaning the carpet, curtains, spraying the mattress, and still it persists. Any ideas out there.

BTW, I cant find anything to get him out of bed before noon on the weekends either!!

I'm using Bath and Body Works "Wallflowers" in DS's room (currently Chocolate Mint) and it is working!

Yeesh, you guys are nice. My parents would try to wake me once, and if I was late to school it was on me. If they had to drive me because I overslept, I'd have to give them gas money. Once I got a car, if I was late.. there was no excuse. My parents never wrote a note for me when I was tardy.. I learned quickly not to oversleep.

My parents know better than to actually come with kicking distance of me if trying to wake me up. I kicked my dad once when I was in elementary school. Since that time, he bangs on teh door, yells at me, sends the dogs in (which doenst work...they cant jump on teh bed by themselves...too small) or throws something at me.

Now that I am away at college, I have to get up on my own. So far, 6 weeks into school, I've only missed one class. and not because I overslept....but because I was sick. I say so far so good. Now I know that when I go back home though, I will sleep until someone bangs on my door...lol

To get my DS15 to jump out of bed, I just threaten to sing The Christmas Shoes. It gets him up everytime. I don't know what he hates more: that song or my singing!:rotfl2:

When I was young, my dad did the water in the face thing. I guess it worked.

But now in am 50+ and still need 4 alarms, one of which is for the hard of hearing (which I am Not) that bleeps at very high decibles, flashes red strobes like mad and shakes the bed (physically, via a connection). Plus I have a music station on a radio across the room at sounds that just barely keep from waking up the neighbors. And I still have trouble waking up :rolleyes1

Loved it!!:)

My secret: I now call them on their cell phones. It works since most of the time they are groggy, have their eyes closed etc. and think they are missing a friend so they answer it and get me..telling them to wake up. I only do this occasionally.

ditto:thumbsup2
