First time I'm in a position of too many points. I know you are limited the number of times you can do this. If I decide to transfer do I need an agreement with the other member? If I use paypal as the method of payment, make sure I get the $ then transfer the points is there any risk?
Maybe someone knows of a good thread I can read.
Thanks

A member is allowed 1 transfer per Use Year either of points into their account or points out ( not both ). The points transferred must be current Use Year points ( they may not be points that have been banked or borrowed ). You can call MS & the member you'll be transferring to and have the transfer done via conference call.

A member can rent a points reservation to another member, transfers - supposed to be non-compensated....

For more on transfers: page 11 in the Planner and of course there is a wealth of info here to learn more on this.

On a related note...

I know that the points are *supposed* to retain their UY and home resort. In practice, do they? If I own at AKV and have someone transfer points from OKW into my account, can I make an 11-month reservation at OKW with those points? Or will I be told that I don't own there so I don't get the booking advantage?:confused3

Also, if I am able to book at OKW with those points at 11 months out, will I also be able to do a cash reservation at that time? Whether or not we get a discount is irrelevant (nice, but getting the reservation is more important) since we are using points for the weekdays and paying cash for the weekend. FWIW, we're talking about 14-15 people (6 adults and the rest are kids...some still not conceived yet:laughing: ...this trip isn't until 2012) in 2-2BR units. That's why having a CONFIRMED reservation is more important than the availability of discounts.

I have had points transferred into my account and we agreed to use escrow.com
It made the transaction risk free for both parties :)

Transferred points retain their use year and resort. If you transfer in OKW points, they will remain OKW points and can be used 11 months out to reserve a reservation at OKW. They can also be banked.

Also be sure not to mention that you were compensated for the transfer since this is prohibited in the terms of purchasing.

I have transferred from one contract to another's (and vice versa). Once I paid the owner via check after the transfer -- I was surprised by his trust of a fellow DIS member; and the other time I asked the buyer-DIS member to pay via Paypal the minute I confirmed the request to MS (as we were on a conference call).

Question: Is it possible to transfer from multiple contracts (with same use year) to another owner: for example, may I transfer 100 BCV, 45 VWK and 80 OKW points to another owner all at once and have that count as my "one" transfer for the year?

As mentioned above, the points will retain use year and resort. They can only be combined at the 7 month window.

No, that would be 3 transfers and only one is allowed per year.

Also beaware that if someone transfers you future use year points (ie Sept 2010 points) the person receiving the points are not allowed to borrow them into their 2009 use year. I just found that out from MS yesterday.

Future (borrowed) points can not be transfered. The points must come from the current use year.

When I talked to MS about a transfer they would allow me to transfer Sept 2010 points. May be I had a person that did notknow the rules.

I have an October use year and in January 2008 I transferred VWL points from my October 2008 UY to a fellow member. You CAN transfer points from a future UY. They aren't actually "borrowed" points as you aren't making a reservation with them at that point. The person I transferred my points to used them in the 2008 UY for a Christmas 2008 reservation, as I recall.

I believe cash reservations are not subject to the owners booking window. I think you can make a cash reservation at any resort 11 months out regardless of whether you own there or not, or whether you are also making a points reservation there. Based on posts I've read here, since cash rooms come from a different inventory they are not subject to the same restrictions as points reservations.

I have transferred points to other owners on two occasions. Both times it was a simple process and was completed by me telephoning MS with the other persons details.

This has been my experience. I booked at HHI (NOT one of my home resorts) for next October on cash. This room is for a honeymoon for DSis so I didn't want to take a chance that it would not be available at 7 months on points. I even got a member discount. I have heard conflicting information regarding booking cash rooms with member discount if the member is not in the room, but I had no trouble. Come to think of it, I booked our HHI rooms for this coming May at 11 months with member discount also.
