How thick are the stateroom walls. Can you hear other noises, tv, kids, etc. i am a light sleeper and didn't want to get woken up with a child crying at night for example. My wife and I are going on the Fantasy in April.

I do travel a white noise machine.

If there are screaming kids (or adults, for that matter), or a TV turned up loud next door, chances are you will hear it. Not very clearly, but you will hear it. There are lots of "noises" onboard - hangers swaying in the closets, creaking or groaning due to the motion of the seas, people running in the halls, doors slamming. It's not much different than being in a hotel. The walls aren't all that thick. I think your white noise machine will be useful.

We were on the Fantasy in July and had a loud family in the room next door. We could make out most of what they were saying. They were connected rooms so I don't know if having the door instead of a solid wall between the rooms made a difference or not. Thankfully we had a white noise machine so we cranked it up so we could sleep,

We found the Fantasy to be much quieter than either of the classics. I was once woken up by a person snoring in the non-connecting room next door, right on the other side of the wall.

I've been on the Fantasy twice and I don't recall ever hearing anything except for a door closing unless I was on the balcony.

there's a much greater chance you will hear your neighbours if you have a cabin that is connecting with another one. I seldom hear anyone or anything from near by cabins EXCEPT if we have a connecting cabin. I try and avoid those now.

When we were on the Fantasy, the only noises that we consistently heard was the slamming of doors on our hallway.

We only heard a crying child once and she had thrown herself down on the floor outside our room (they were in the room next door). She wanted to go back to the clubs instead of whatever activity her parents had planned. I was napping, but it was 3:00ish in the afternoon.

A white noise machine should drown out most noises. I am usually a light sleeper, but we were so busy all day that I slept better than usual through the night because I was so tired.

However, the ship creaks and the coat hangers in the closet sway, which are the main two "nighttime" noises you will hear.

Most of the noise we hear in the stateroom comes from the hallway, not the neighbors. In fact, when we sailed with my parents next door to us, we were surprised when we walked in their room one evening at how loud their tv was (they're a bit hard of hearing). We didn't hear a thing next door! Made me wonder how loud the TV's were that we do occasionally hear!! So while we like to be midship, we know if we are in a less trafficked area, our stateroom will generally be quieter at night/early morning.

Ah! Those coat hangers! I had to take them all down and put them on the floor of the closet one night when the ship was moving a bit more, they were driving me crazy!

Our first night I had to do the same thing. Our second cruise I remembered to take down the unused hangers. A good tip for when you are unpacking.
OP, I never heard anyone on either side of us during our cruises and I am a light sleeper as well. I use my white noise app when in the resorts but didn't need it on the ship. Of course if you are sandwich between the Loud Family, all bets are off.

Make sure you get a room that does not have a connecting door. Other than that, there isn't much you can do about who your neighbors are. I'd also recommend maybe far aft or far forward for less hallway traffic.

We've had rooms with a connecting door on two Fantasy sailings and have heard nary a peep from our neighbors. The main noise problems we've experiences has been the running in the hallways. It was bad this time around.

What is this "leftover hangers" you speak of? We usually end up asking for extras, because we run out.....

Like others have said very little noise from the room next door. Most of the noise is from kids running in the hallways (thump, thump, thump) and slamming doors. Don't people know how to let a door close slowly??? I suggest staying all the way forward or aft so there is less foot traffic by your cabin. We did GTY (booking where they don't assign a cabin) NEVER again!! we were assigned midship cabin 10558. Noise from above on the pool deck and because we were miship by the stairs lots of people. This was our 10th cruise and never had the amount of noise as this cabin.

As with PPs our noise issue has always been with the hallways, but I would add that if possible, avoid being near one of the service rooms where the room attendants keep everything and are going in and out. They don't start too early in the morning, but they sometimes work late into the evening if they are doing turn down service for second seating cabins or cleaning up after some unexpected mess. Not sure exactly how to plan for that except to study a deck plan carefully.

How anyone could run, jump, etc in rooms this small amazes me.

I'd say along with your white noise machine another good investment would be a good set of earplugs.
