How The Great Movie Ride Could Be Great Again

For starters - the "hero" montage that was just shown at the Oscars should replace the ancient film loop that plays at the end of the ride. It was awesome! There were some older clips in there, but most of them were from newer movies and would play well to the younger crowd.

Any other ideas?

I like this ride but it truly is waaaay over due for an update. Instead of pouring money into Avatarland which most kids will be clueless about the money could be better spent updating. Lord of the Rings would have been a much more interesting choice or an actual land of Oz. If Universal gets a hold of a Hunger Games or Divergent then Disney may really lose a lot of money.

Remove some of the scenes and update them. I would get rid of Tarzan and Alien. I don't know what I would put in. Star Wars is my first thought, but if DHS gets a Star Wars theme land (fingers cross) I would keep Star Wars for that.
I think you could update the Gangster scene with some more modern movies. (Goodfellas is one of my favorites) lol

John Wayne needs to stay. The Wizard of Oz needs to stay. Indiana Jones can stay. The beginning with the tribute to the 1930s can stay also.

I definately agree that the ride needs an update. However, I know it is difficult to try and balance keeping / incorporating "classics" vs. what is the particular flavor of the week movie-wise. However, I love the ride, and think it has potential to be great again...it just needs some help!

I feel they should include scenes from recent movies like Slumdog Millionare and some Disney movies like Beauty And The Beast, Frozen and the Disney/Pixar movies. That's just me, though.:goodvibes:)

I haven't been on the rise since I was a kid, but I would imagine that a limiting factor in updating it is that Disney doesn't have the right to use most of the movies out there.

It's hard to update a ride that is taking you through the "history" of movies. :confused3

I agree the film at the end could use a few more modern movies, but again, it's about the history of movies and breakthrough classics. I like it just the way it is.

There are already plans for a 2nd Avatar movie which will boost the popularity....Avatar also fits with the theme of Animal Kingdom and conservation.

Disney does not have the rights to Lord of the Rings....

Second....who cares about Hunger Games and Divergent...Disney has Star Wars and Marvel...I believe Disneyland is planning on updating Tomorrowland in a Star Wars theme, not to mention the ever present rumor of a Star Wars land at Hollywood Studios.

In the end, Disney has more then enough "rights" to truly reshape Disney and add even more over the next 10-20 years.

See, now I wish they'd do more with Marvel/Avengers than Star Wars. I know there's some die hard SW fans out there, but it's old and tired, IMO. Move onto something newer like Avengers.

I think SW is more for adults, given the generation gap of the release of these movies. Kids would be more into Marvel today.

My son is 6 and loves Star Wars and most of his friends love it. His Favorite things at HS is the Jedi Academy and Star Tours. I find the Avengers movies a little to violent for his age so we don't let him watch them yet.

For teens probably Avengers would be more popular.

As a parent I like both, but Star Wars is #1 for me. That would be cool if they would add a Star Wars section, but I do like the ride the way it is.

Star Wars old and tired, hardly.....releasing a new trilogy in the coming years which will capture a whole new audience. The older trilogies are still extremely popular (as most of those adults have introduce their own children to the series). The Close Wars series is in it's 6th season and the merchandise (Lego and other) continue to sell extremely well.

With that said....I would love to see more done with the Marvel as so much can be done using that world.

Love it how it is. But if Titanic could be added, that would be amazing

It's an opinion, and mine is that it is tired. IF and when they release the new trilogy, then yes, it will attract new audiences. I wish they wouldn't wait so long. When did Episode I come out, what year?

My 7 y/o and 4 y/o nephews who literally started screaming when I gave them both stormtroopers pjs, ran upstairs to put them on, and then started playing stormtroopers with each other would disagree with you.

Not that they don't enjoy marvel too, but they *love* SW far more than marvel.

I respect your opinion that it is tired, but I disagree that there is this generation gap and younger kids aren't as in to SW.

Cute!! Of course. I'm not saying there are no young SW fans out there. I actually do like SW. I'm just not a SW nut like a lot of people are. LOL We all know there are SW fans, then are there are SW FANS!!! That are crazy fanatical, dress up, live eat breathe SW.

I expect some "backlash" when I say SW is tired. LOL I think they are waiting too long to release the next trilogy. I actually just wish they'd release the next trilogy now. I'm ready. ;)

There were Star Wars movies in the 70s, 80s, 90s, 00s. So I would say that would appeal to all generations. The clone wars is popular in the 10s so that is current plus a new movie IS coming out in Dec 2015. So we have past, present and future.

You can think in your opinion that Star Wars is old and tired, but the fact is that it is still really popular and is timeless.

They currently have a popular animated TV series...(08 - 14)

Revenge of the Sith (the last theatrical release) came out in 05...

2015 for the next release (Episode VII)...

I understand your opinion and for some it is "old and tired", but as a franchise and to the general public....it still resonates, it will still be a draw (who popular are Star Wars Weekends?), and continued to be loved by new generations.

Thanks. I do love how on these boards when a person has an "unpopular" opinion about a topic, everyone has to point out how they're "wrong".

The movies do span the years you cited, however it's not like they were released evenly over those years. The first was released in 1977, with the last of that trilogy being released in 1983, so a 6 year span.

Then the next trilogy was released 16 years later in 1999, with the last in 2005. Another 6 year span.

Maybe it's my age that makes me so blase about it. I was born in 1975, so just before the first trilogy was released. So I never really got to see any of the originals in the theater as I was only 8 when the last one was released.

Anyway, glad to hear the next release is scheduled for December 2015. I can't wait. :)

As I said, I respect your opinion that SW is tired, and I hope you don't think I was telling you you were wrong to have it. I don't think you are "wrong" in your analysis of why it's tired either, I'm just coming to a different conclusion than you are.

I don't think time spent in theatres is as much of a determining factor now. The SW trilogies are constantly run in marathons on TV. I swear I see at least one SW movie on at least once/month. That didn't happen when I was growing up the way it does now, and I think it definitely affects who gets exposed to the movies (and when). At least one person on. my FB feed last night was watching RotJ on TV instead of the Oscars.

Add in the popularity of the Lego Star Wars video games, the lego star wars merchandise (actual lego sets and such) that has come out to go along with it, and the Clone Wars animated series that's been on TV for quite some time now, and I think all of those factors play a large part in exposing younger audiences to SW than SW actually being in theatres. The new trilogy that is starting in Dec 2015 is only going to build it more, but I don't think it can be said that the franchise has been stagnant for the last decade. The franchise has expanded well beyond the theatrical releases, and that is definitely introducing the franchise to younger audiences even without the theatrical component.
