My boyfriend and I are going to WDW in May and I'm pondering our perpetual problem when it comes to theme parks--what attractions will my BF simply not FIT on?

He's 6'10 with a crazy amount of that being torso, and I'd like to know where it's most likely to be a problem. I've been scrounging around trying to look at picturse of rides to see what type of restraint systems they have but I can't always tell!

Does anyone have personal experience with rides they just won't fit on? Which rides have over the shoulder type restraints? Thost tend to be the problem--lap bars, etc are usually fine.

Nothing sucks more than waiting in line only to not be able to go because we can't wedge his behemoth self in safely!

None of the rides have a height 'limit' he might be uncomfortable on some of the smaller ride cars like Dumbo (I am a on the short side of 5'4" and my legs are cramped). This discussion comes up every few weeks and you will soon have many tall Dis'sers reassure you that your BF will fit just fine.

For ride car pics see http://allears.net/tp/gal_ride.htm
and WDW at large great article see: http://allears.net/tp/ridsiz.htm

and :welcome: to the Dis, ObsidianDragon!

Shouldn't be a problem.

Anyone in that height-range is used to being a bit uncomfortable in many physically-restraintive situations.

Many site Space Mountain, but most still find a way to make themselves "fit."

He'll figure a way to fit on the few attractions that may be a bit awkward for a tall person and he'll have a great time!

:welcome: to the DISboards, OD!

There will Definitely be a problem on some rides. I'm 6'1" and some rides are tougher. I would think mostly rollercoasters where the seat in front of you would hit your knees. Space Mountain is another one where there is limited room. I'll try to think of more.

Added: Expedition Everest could be rough. RnR will be tight as well. Again, coasters seem to be the problem.

Don't think anything is actually a "no-go", but some of the little boats can be an issue. DH, who is only about 6 ft tall, but close to 300lbs and sort of massive everywhere, felt extremely "folded" on Small World, and refuses to go on it again. I think the little singing dolls may have something to do with that too, though.

BTW, DH has had issues with fitting into ride restraints (especially chest harnesses) in a number of parks, but never at Disney.

My husband is 6'7" and majority of it is legs, and although he tends to be cramped and space mountain can be a little painful he goes on all the rides. If you BF is mostly torso he will probably have an easier time getting onto the rides. My dh tends to go in first so he can position his legs and then I can sit next to him and we are fine. The biggest problem like i said is space mountain but it is also one of his favorites so it doesn't stop him. He sits in the back car because for some reason on that ride you have a little more room in the back than in the front car.
He also tends to sit with his legs spread a bit, knees open to the sides and his ankles crossed together in the middle. It is a strange little maneuver that he has figured out throughout the years to get him in the most comfortably and has never had a problem.
Like I said since mine is mostly legs and he can do it yours should be find being mostly torso :)

Have a great time

I'm 5 foot 11, and I have problems in Space Mountain. Climbing out of it is always a show, let me tell you. By all means, stay away from the teacups (I almost got stuck) and the raceway cars. Don't recall trouble on many other rides. It's a little tight on Big Thunder Mountain, but it's doable.

Good luck!

DH is 6'1" and 225. They only thing he really has issues with is the front row on any of the boat rides such as POTC, IASM. We just ask for a row other than the front and he's fine...otherwise his knees are up around his neck!

I'm 6' 3" and have no problems with any of the rides....except for the front seat on Space Mountain. DO NOT try to ride in the front seat on Space. The seats in the rear allow for more leg room around the seat in front, which is not possible in the front seat.

DH is 6'5. He is really cramped on Space Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain and his knees bang around on both rides a lot so he tends to avoide them.

A lot of the rides, there is a certain seat (ex front or back) that has more leg room.

I would just like to let you know from things I have read on these boards tell him do NOT put his arms in the air or lean out the sides of the car on Space Mountain. I could be paranoid but I have a fear of the bars along the tracks being so close to the cars. Just seems it would be more of a possibility with someone his size to clip something. Probably not, but just to be on the safe side stay centered with arms in.

Thanks!

The reason I ask is becuase we have to pass on about half of the coasters at Six Flags. A lot of the over the shoulder harnesses just aren't long enough to fit over his shoulders and actually lock down--so it's not a matter of leg room or anything, but of safety harness size.

The wooden coasters turn inter a game of "can I wedge my hips into tiny seats older than I am" for him, too, but I don't think that will be as much of an issue here...

I'll keep in mind the back seat thing for Space Mountain and other rides!

I hope that leg room isn't too much of an issue, because despite being 13 inches shorter my legs are almost as long as his! I can fold better though.

What's his pants length? I'm 34"...if harnesses are a problematic, RnR might be a problem. It's a tight fit for me, but I also try to pull the shoulder harness all the way down since the ride tends to beat riders up a bit if it's not completely snug.

I think the only ride with shoulder restraints is RnR. I am 6ft and the majority of my height is in my legs so I have a lot of trouble with leg room on rides. One tip though for RnR is to have him get in the car first. The seats on the left side of the "limo" have more upper body room for some reason.

I second the comment about space mountain. I felt like my knees were in my face and i was not snug and secure. I also always duck down more on Space Mountain because something about that ride makes me think it's going to take my head off....must be that urban legend about the man being beheaded on it......

Also when you ride the bigger rides like POTC and IASM ask them for your own row..that way he can turn kind of sideways and have more room. Sometimes, depending on how busy they are, they'll put either you in your own row or they'll not fill up the row as much. If it's packed when we go then I don't ask but when we go and it's not so busy I'll ask.

One of the rows on Test Track has more room as well, but for some reason I can't remember. I'm riding it on Saturday so I'll try to remember and look.

He might have an issue with the Haunted Mansion and the Nemo ride.
The ride vehicle's back comes up and over the seat, in effect creating a roof over your head.

My dad is 6'9" and he was fine on the haunted mansion..now I don't think he's ridden Nemo.

I am 6'7", 265 lbs and was able to fit well enough in all 28 rides we did last week across the four parks of WDW. A couple of them were a squeeze but there wasn't a single ride that I was unable to do or felt unsafe on. The only rides I didn't have time to try were:
  • Remy’s Ratatouille
  • Frozen Ever After
  • Tower of Terror
  • The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh
  • Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover
  • Living With the Land
  • Journey Into Imagination With Figment
  • Mission: SPACE
  • Toy Story Mania
