How strict on height requirement?

I do not recommend waiting in line to find out if she's tall enough. Just go up to the CM at the FP entrance and say you'd like to check your daughter. The measurer is right there. If her head makes contact with the bottom of it, she's good to go.

But it must also been stated that this is not a guarantee that a child will be permitted on the attraction. There have been a lot of reports of children passing the check at the line entrance, only to be refused at the loading area check.

Like I was told 250 times when asking if passing a 3 year old as 2 was OK, riding a ride when you know your kid isn't tall enough is immoral and unethical. It is breaking the rules and if you know she isn't tall enough, she shouldn't ride.

Yeah because telling a kid to wear sneakers instead of flip flops is the same as theft of service.

Op if she hits it with normal shoes on she should be good to go. Heels or platforms no but I would either not mention the rides or explain that she may not be tall enough to ride yet but will be next time.

Yes. But if the shoes are obviously designed to boost height and the CMs notice it, they may very well ask the shoes be removed.
I have never seen this happen, and besides are there restrictions on what types of shoes we can wear in Disney ?

I must be missing something.

Well yes, shoes with wheels, but what does that have to do with anything.

While you have never seen CM's making kids take off their shoes, others have.

Therefore it doesn't happen? Are you omniscient?

I'm assuming they're really strict on this. I measured my daughter last week and she was 39 inches tall... We go to Disney in a month. The height requirement for a few rides (big thunder mountain, splash mountain, etc.) is 40 inches. What are our chances? :)

Are you measuring her with or without shoes? That makes a difference, and no you don't need to get special platform shoes. When I measured DD3 barefooted, she was 39 inches, but when she put on her little Nike shoes, she was well over the limit. We rode everything in MK and Epcot that had a 40 limit and I think they checked her once. Good luck.

I have, it happened with wedge sandals on a 3ish year old. I've also seen them ask parents to remove a pair of sketchers shape-ups from little Janie

DS was 39 1/2 inches on our last trip. We tried twice to see if he would be permitted on the 'big' rides. We tried at Splash Mountain and Big Thunder Mountain Railroad. He was denied both times. We quit trying after that.

I had well prepared him before the trip that he may not get to ride on certain attractions. He wasn't really disappointed and we just went on to the next thing. There are so many other things to do at WDW that this really didn't impact our trip much.

We saw it on Primeval Whirl several years ago. The little girl in front of us was wearing very thick flip flops she could barely walk in and had her hair pulled straight up in a pony tail (think like Pebbles Flintstone:rotfl:). The CM had her take her shoes off and also pushed her hair down.:rotfl: Despite her crying and her parents huffing and puffing she wasn't able to get on. I had my grand daughter with me that trip and she looked at me in a panic. I told her not to worry about it as she was plenty tall enough to ride. I was shocked when the CM also measured her. She didn't have to take her shoes off though. She was wearing regular tennis shoes and was obviously tall enough to ride. Im still not sure why they measured her though.:confused3

This isnt actually that odd.

In SeaWorld Orlando my (almost 40 :scared1:) mother was ID'd when trying to buy a beer. She did NOT take it well.

We dont really know whether the guy was being sarcastic, pedantic or even slightly flirty. It didnt have the intended effect if it was the latter though

Sometimes employees can take these restrictions a little too seriously.

Who knows? My 6 year old was just tall enough for Rock n' Roller Coaster during our trip in June. The height requirement is 48". When we entered Mission Space the next day, which has a 44" requirement, the CM asked to measure him. So, he was more than 4" over the requirement, and was measured.

So to state again... who the heck knows??

We were in a similar situation last month for our trip...my 5 year old daughter is quite petite. The only ride she really was excited to do that had a height requirement was Splash Mountain. At her 5 year check up she measured a bit over 39 inches...so we prepared her that she might not be allowed on the ride. She wore her regular Zig sneakers (which do have a slight heel, but nothing out of the ordinary) and she was measured once, by a CM, but she passed and went on Splash Mt. with all of us. She was so excited...I agree that it is all about safety...but preparing your child that she may not be able to ride a certain ride, is definitely wise. We had prepared her for this, and she knew she might not be able to do certain things. In our case, it all worked out. Good luck...she'll have a blast no matter what!!
