How strict is Disney's under 21 policy?

My wife and I are going to be traveling to Disney World from 9/25 to 10/9. I am 22 and will turn 23 on 9/29 while we are there and my wife is 20 but won't be 21 till 11/24. If I have my ID but she "forgot" hers how lucky can you be to get it to places like pleasure island or get a drink at dinner??? We are not "party" drinkers but might enjoy a drink with our dinner or haveing a few drinks and going dancing??? Anyone have experience with this?

I can only give you my very recent experience about the trip I just returned from.

I had a glass of wine at 5 different table sevice venues in the parks and resorts. I was asked for ID 3 times out of 5.

I am 31, will be 32 next month . I just gave a wry smile and showed my ID. I didn't mind as the servers were just doing their job. I just found it funny as I was probably older than they were, and I have been drinking legally in my own country for 13 years - never been ID'd in all that time here, not once!

I did always carry my id with me as I suspected I'd be asked for it. It had to be my passport though, as it's the only photo id I have, so that wasn't ideal.

So I'd say they are pretty strict about the 21 policy.

They are strict with the 21, I am waaaay over 21 (my DD is 19!) and have been I.D.'d many times, just upon entering the clubs at P.I.

If you want to go dancing you can, as most clubs at Pleasure Island are for all ages, only two are for over 21.

So, no drinks for DW, but you'll have a great time anyway!

disney definitely checks ID.

however there is quick rip here that has posted a sign 'if you are below 40 years old. we need to see your id' - the police have come down hard on these places for selling to minors.

wdw is not quite that bad.

We even tried ordering drinks for the kids when they were 19/20ish when they were with us..disney doesn't let that fly. My daughter had one sitting a little to close to her one night..they come and took it away..lol. She was furious..we said..well, we tried..lol.

Not only are they strict about checking IDs, but Disney has a policy of 1 drink per ID. So you couldn't order two drinks and then give your wife one after you left the bar. (or at least this was the case during my last trip).

This was the case our trip too, so I assume they enforce it often.

We were at Coral Reef a few yrs ago, we were there with my DBF's sister's family (2 adults 2 young kids) and the waiter assumed that we were underage. So before asking they took away our wine glasses, leaving only 2 for my DBF's sister and her husband. We had a good laugh about that one!

Not my proudest moment.... But I was actually escorted out of PI because someone who was underage took a sip out of my cup.

I would just get a bottle of somehting and drink in the room.

No chance at PI, some waiters might not check ID at dinner but BYOB and having your cocktail or glass of wine in your room is a better solution. Save some $$$.

The only time I was not carded at WDW was when I bought a bottle of wine in Epcot. They seem to be quite strict about asking for ID's when ordering drinks.

They always ask me for my ID. I am 27 now and of course I look younger than that! I travel w/ my dad a lot and the majority of the time, the beer stands in EPCOT let me buy 2. One time I was asked who the other beer is for and I told them it was for my dad. I then pointed to a man sitting on a bench in the distance. It really was for my dad but I couldn't spot him at the time.

disney is very strict about their "age 21" policy on drinks & night clubs & asks for id, if you dont have one youre not going in or getting a drink period. but she can go to pleasure island with you & these 2 clubs there, club motion & mannequins. "Admission required to enter Pleasure Island nightclubs. Under 18 must be accompanied by a person 21 years of age or older who has an acceptable form of identification. Must be 18 years or older to enter Club Motion. Must be 18 years or older to enter Mannequins Dance Palace Sunday through Wednesday. Must be 21 or older to enter Mannequins Dance Palace and BET SoundsStage™ Club Thursday through Saturday. Valid photo I.D. required. All Clubs are non-smoking." per disneys site. all the other clubs are 21 & up though so she couldnt enter. you two can also do karoake at kimonos at the swan which is also fun nighttime entertainment.

always next year for drinks & other pi & bwi clubs.

i thought all the clubs are 18+. mannequins and BET used to be only 21+ everyday until recently, now its 18+ certain days. so if you go on those certain days, she can get in everywhere, but not drink.

Drinking is not that imporntant to me or my wife. This was just a simple question. As far as the law is concerned though.... at 18 I can be drafted to go and die for my country..... but I have to wait 3 years to drink a beer???

Getting someplace faster is important enough for many (most?) people to break the law and speed.

OP wasn't asking for opinions on drinking.

The only experience I had at WDW was at JellyRolls I am 29 and got ID to get in so I don't think you would have any luck there. I live in Canada were the drinking age is 19 so I always forget that you have to be 21 in Florida. Have a great trip and enjoy yourself.

My, how the times have changed.

One of my best friends and I were celebrating our 21st birthdays at wdw years (and years ) ago, we were between our birthdays. I was 21 she was two months shy. We only got carded once (in the tiny bar of the Viscount, now the Travelodge in DTD). We drank at just about ever meal.

It seems with various liability issues things have definitely tightened up.
