How soon can I sell points?

Now to get back to what the OP was asking, if she buys a 160 point contract and a 65 contract which adds up to the 225 points required for the bonus points can she get the 160 bonus points? Was I correct in saying it needed to be a full 225 point contract for a first time buyer to buy in and receive the bonus? That's the way I understood it from our guide, but maybe we were all confusing the splitting up for the kids and the splitting up to receive the bonus points.

We just purchased and split the points, we have a 175 & 50 contract. We did this so we could sell if, at a later date, we felt we had too many points. We did receive the Developer Point incentive even though it was two contracts.

I do not think the OP's reasoning makes a whole lot of financial sense. The points on the resale market will be worth less and he will pay the maintenance fee on those points until he sells them, plus there is the commision. Seems like a lot of work for a one time bonus.

There's the answer. Sorry folks, I had it wrong and misunderstood what my guide was telling me. Thanks for being patient with me and putting up with my stupidity.

Sorry for all the confusion. We are seriously considering buying a new DVC contract with 160 points.

The current promo is buy 160 gets points and get
$8 a point off OR
160 developer points.

OR
Buy 225 points, get $8 a point off AND 160 developer points.

But I figured if we bought 160, might as well buy 225, get the extra 160 points and then sell the extra 65 points.

I still think my points would be worth what i paid for them since it is a small loaded contract but I did not take into account commissions.

So we are back to looking at just 160 points at AKV or a resale somewhere else.

If I were you, I would buy:

160 point contract
65 point contract

take the discount and the developer points

Give it a year or so. use the points. In the future, if you decide you don't need that many points, you can sell and probably for a pretty good price. I'm betting you will be happy you have the extra points and decide to keep them!

edit to add: If your finances are such that 160 is the most you can do, then just do that and forget about the developer points. enjoy your purchase.
