How scary is Everest?

There's nothing at WDW I won't ride, so far, but every time I ride RnR I picture the new clipping of my death. (woman ejects out of disney coaster).

Should I be afraid, very afaid?

I've wondered this, too. I can tolerate some pretty wild rides (except TOT, but that's another thread), but will DD7 be okay? I don't want her to be discouraged from riding other things if this scars her for life, LOL! :stir:

I think ToT and RnRC are both a little higher on the fear factor scale. I thought EE was a souped up BTMRR with the Splash mountain drop thrown in for good measure. Not too scary at all, but still lots of fun!

We found Everest to be not scary at all. Very smooth, very fun and themed perfectly.
Not anywhere close to the initial acceleration of RNR coaster.
Good luck!

For goodness sake, are you a grown up or a 7 year old? First off, there are numerous videos of the ride on the net that you can preview. Second, there may be thrills, as in "I didn't expect that drop", but what are you afraid is going to scare you that you won't be past in about 2 seconds? Or do you fear the restraint failing and your subconscious telling you to jump out? You know there's a big furry guy near the end. It's all made to be fun and exciting.

Thank you for your lovely advice. I don't know what I'd do without feedback like yours.

Are you for real. Is this your screenname you use for insulting people?

When including sarcasm in a post - keep one thing in mind:

A little goes a very long way!

Civility is the order of the day. :)

OMG! :scared1: This does seem awfully snotty especially for a newbie! You really shouldn't respond so harshly to people asking perfectly innocent and valid questions or you're not going to be very popular here.

This was totally unnecessary. :confused3
We all need to be civilized. OPS asked a very valid question, I happened to be interested in that question as well, since I am a big chicken. And I am not a 7 year old, I am 34 but you don't want to be around me while I get sick on rides like this. :lmao:

Yeeouch. Somebody got up on the grumpy side of the bed this morning. :confused3
Hope he or she isn't the one sitting in front of me on EE when I lose my lunch! ;)

If it helps I just read in Deb Willis' All Ears newsletter that she interviewed 100 people (after riding 8 times herself during previews) and only 1 child and 1 adult said they would not ride again.

She said the drop wasn't as bad as Splash Mtn. because it was smoother and the only thing that bugged her the first ride was the backwards part. She thinks it was because she had her head against the headrest and it vibrated. The next 7 times she leaned forward a bit while going backwards, eliminating the head vibration and felt much better.

She said it was a very fun ride and the theming is great. I ride Splash but that drop always kinda gets me. I'm definatly going to try this if they have soft open on Monday.

Cheers!

Sorry, I just don't understand the constant posts about "Is this attraction scary" or "Is that attraction scary". What is scary to you? Are you scared of heights? Are you scared of dark enclosed places? I mean those kind of things have a basis in psychological disorders and a lot of people deal with small amounts of that type of thing.

But just saying "Is it scary"? As a grown up, we all know the ride leaves the load area and comes back a few minutes later. Unless you're at at old park where maintenance isn't done, and you are genuinely afraid for your life when you ride a coaster, how can you answer a generic question like "Is it scary"? Yes, the occasional problem happens, like with BTMRR or something. Is that the basis for these type of questions? I mean is there a genuine fear for your life that is bothering someone when they ask "Is it scary"?

I think it's valid to ask of Universal's Haunted Houses, "How scary is this house?" because the whole point of the attraction is to scare you. You may want to expand on that, like "I don't like guys with chainsaws jumping out at me. Will this scare me?". But attractions that Disney makes don't lend themselves to "Is this scary". Except maybe Alien Encounter because the point of that is/was to scare you specifically.

IMO, if you have a particular qualm, you'd be better off addressing that specifically then asking something general like "Is it scary". It's like asking "Will XXX scare my kids?" - unless you provide a little more info, it's anyone's guess.

Wow. This is so not needed. If a question bugs you, close the post and move onto the next one. Your comments are totally uncalled for. Please move on.

By the way, Inga, thanks for posting. This information is helping me in my decision to ride or not. :thumbsup2

orljustin: by reading many of your posts, it appears that your view of things is linear and literal. Which is fine. But there are adults that do have other ways of percieving their environment that has nothing to do with linear thinking.

I completly understand when someone asks "Is it scary?" They are looking for clues as to all of what you mentioned. Is it dark, fast, do things jump out at you, are there drops, etc.

I get the impression that you feel because someone is over 18 years old that these things should not effect them simply because adults can logically reason. However, fear is not logical.

I think that perhaps you need to understand that while this approach may work for you, it doesn't work for everyone.

Have a Disney Day!

For what it's worth I was very frightened on it and won't ride it again. But I'm way in the minority. Most people, including children, loved it.
For me it wasn't the height or the speed so much as the intensity. I felt as though I was being tossed around a lot in the curves.

ORLJustin,
You are a bit on the harsh side. That is not how things work here.. This is a happy place.

:sunny:

Many years ago when Space Mountain first opened...I rode it and my seatbelt came undone. I did not like the ride or the feeling. "God help me, I don't want to be an astronaut". It was unnerving and some people don't enjoy rides that make them feel that way. Others don't like to be tossed about, bumped or riding backwards. This doesn't make them unbalanced--but aware of their own comfort level.

How would you know what "as a grownup" means? You don't seem to have any experience.

I get scared on scary rides. I wanted to about people's first experiences. Plus I like to talk about Disney rides. Difficult concept for you?

I'm like that the most with TOT. Everyone seems to think it's not scary at all now that they've changed the drops, but I think it is sooooo scary. But I think it's adorable, too, so I bite the bullet and ride.
