How scary are some rides at WDW?

Hey All,
I am 16 years old, and you might laugh at me for this, but I sometimes get a little scared and am not always brave enough for thrill rides. I also get a little scared of mentally scary rides. I know this might sound funny to you, but I don't go to theme parks that often.

So I have been to Disney once before, and did Big Thunder Mountain, Tower of Terror, and Everest. I managed those ok. BTMR didn't really scare me at all, although I was a tiny bit scared. Tower of Terror and Everest did scare me quite a bit though before going on. I was extremely scared of them, especially ToT. I managed them though, and they are so far my favorite rides that I did at WDW. I will be going again next week and want to ask about some rides:

Here are the ones I am worried about:

Space Mountain
Splash Mountain
Mission Space
Test Track
Rock N Roller Coaster
Primeval Whirl
Kali River Rapids

I really want to ride all of these, and I do think I am brave enough and can handle all of them, but could you please explain a little how the ride goes and how scared you think I might be? Also how does the thrill on those rides compare to BTMR, ToT, and EE? Rock N Roller Coaster is the one I am scared for the most, but Primeval Whirl I am quite worried about as well. Well truthly I am worried about all of them, however at least most of them, if not all, I will do my best to suck it up and ride them and see. Most of them I think are some of the best rides in the park. Splash Mountain and Kali are also making me nervous a bit. How sudden or fast does the water splash you on those?

I also wanted to know how mentally scary is the Haunted Mansion? I rode DINOSAUR and Snow White's Scary Adventures last time, and Snow White was a piece of cake. DINOSAUR scared me a very little but I loved the ride and handled it. I have been reading on here though that Haunted Mansion can be quite scary mentally, and want to know how would you compare it to DINOSAUR and Snow White's Scary Adventures. I know Snow White's Scary Adventures doesn't exist anymore, but I am telling you because maybe you could compare.

I honestly really want to ride all of them, as I believe they are really the best rides there, so I will try to manage all the ones I listed above. I can tell you though I was inches away from just skipping ToT, but I decided to go on at the very last minute, and loved it.

Honest answer here... It all depends on you.

Anyone and everyone on here is going to give THEIR opinion of the rides and what THEY think is scary or not. No one is going to be right or wrong.

If you need a preview, just go to youtube and do a POV of each ride. That'll help you somewhat.

Disney lets you ride with a loose bag on tower of terror and Hollywood ride and space mountain in fact any ride except soaring? But its underneath you so if you can carry a bag with you remember it can't be that bad

I usually don't ride roller coasters at our local theme park (Hersheypark), however, I was determined to at least try them at Disney. I've ridden them all, except Primeval Whirl - can't do the spinny things anymore. I kept telling myself it can't be too bad because it is Disney. I love all of them. Can't do Mission Space because of motion sickness, however, it was a fun ride when I did do it. Haunted Mansion may start out a bit scary, but just a bit, the ride portion itself is lots of fun, and not scary in my opinion - and I don't do fun houses or anything else that scary. If you've done Dinosaur, you should be good to go, since I think its much scarier than HM.

First off, no way I'm laughing at you, or think this funny in any way. There are plenty of people who are scared of thrill rides. I have my moments, and my daughter has a list of rides she just won't do. My wife also has some that are on her no way list, so I fully understand.

You have already tackled some of the most intense rides in all of Disney World!

Space Mountain I can't really comment on, I have never ridden it. Mostly because I'm worried that the rough jerky ride will kill my bad back, but also because I have some issues with roller coasters lol.

Splash is a wonderful ride until you get to that big drop, at which point I pooh myself, but my son loves the ride, so I tough it out. My thoughts here for you are it is a visually amazing ride, it's only about 45 seconds or so that it's intense, and I doubt it is any worse than ToT, so I think you would have no problem with it!

Mission Space . .. try the less intense side first. That will allow you to see what the ride vehicle is like, and you will experience everything but the spinning. If that doesn't bother you, then give the intense side a go!

Test Track . . . not as scary as the drive to Disney World on I95 and I4, REALLY!

Rock N Roller Coaster, I haven't tried it, my wife rode it with my son. She also rode Expedition Everest with both my son and I. She said she would do Rock N Roller Coaster again. She wasn't so sure about Expedition Everest, so judging by that, I'd say if you like Everest, you would probably be fine on Rock N Roller Coaster.

Primeval Whirl none of us have tried, so I can't really offer any advice there.

Kali River Rapids, there is ONE slide, it is not all that exciting. If you have ever ridden Pirates of the Caribbean, or the Maelstrom, those drops are more intense than the slide in Kali. If you ride Splash and survive that, Kali is a walk in the park compared to that drop.

Haunted Mansion, no more scare than Snow White was. Watch a youtube video of Haunted Mansion, there is nothing in the ride that won't come through in a video, it really isn't terribly scary!

I went on Mission Space Green for the first time with my family and had a complete and utter panic attack. It was horrible. If you don't like simulators or are claustrophobic in any way, avoid it.

Hi, OP! ToT is actually the one ride I won't go on. I hate the feeling of dropping. I would consider going on it if I weren't alone, but it's also the one ride DH won't go on either!!

IMO, EE is the "scariest" ride at WDW...if you can handle that, you are good to go! Here are my thoughts on the rides in question:

Space Mountain - Not scary, but very uncomfortable. I find myself getting tossed around quite a bit on this one and my hips always hurt at the end. It's in the dark, but doesn't go fast (30 MPH) and there are no big drops.

Splash Mountain - Looks way worse than it is! The "big" drop is over in seconds and there are several smaller drops throughout to help you prepare, lol. Also, this one has a great theme/story and is completely worth riding for that alone. (This is my favorite ride at Disney!)

Mission Space - Can't comment here - I won't ride the more intense one due to motion sickness issues.

Test Track - I don't think this one is scary at all. It just feels like you're driving on the highway.

Rock N Roller Coaster - This is an awesome coaster. Yes, it goes fast and yes, it goes upside down. But it's really smooth and the Aerosmith music blaring in your ear will have you singing along! It's also a very short ride (75 seconds), so if you hate it, at least it is over quickly! (This is my second favorite ride at Disney!)

Primeval Whirl - Haven't ridden this one - I think the spinning would cause motion sickness issues for me.

Kali River Rapids - Not scary, but not really that fun of a ride IMO. You'll probably get soaked to the bone and the theme just really isn't that great, I don't think.

I hope you have a great time on your trip! And don't put too much pressure on yourself. If you really feel scared, skip the ride. It isn't worth being anxious at Disney!

Thanks all, I think I am set to ride all of them.

Just whoever has been on Primeval Whirl, can you please comment? How does it compare to Everest?

PW compared to EE is like comparing a Ford Model T to a new 2017 car ... Completely different generations of Coaster design. Nothing is smooth on PW, no banked turns ... Very carnival.

I call it instead, "Primeval Whiplash". It is a rough ride - did it once, won't do it again... got tossed and turned around so hard at times, my back hurt afterwards.

Everyone's experience is personal and individual, but IMO, you have already been on WDW's scariest rides.

RNRC - before you go on it- is in the same ballpark, but as it is in the dark and only 90 seconds long, one you ride it, it won't seem bad. RNRC's intense section is only a few seconds in duration.

The feelings you describe are perfectly normal, and have a name. They are called catharsis. Theme park rides are supposed to make guests THINK they are going to experience something extreme. It is the same reason we enjoy literature, performances all art, and movies. Stories and rides provide emotional release, which is cathartic. Most of the time, being civil means we try to avoid crying, fighting, yelling, etc. Yelling at your boss= losing your job. Both literature and theme park rides = permission to cry, scream, fear....and afterwards we feel better, because we've released those pent up emotions. You suck it up at work and school, then release those emotions in a safe space.

Alas, let us marvel the Greeks, they figured this out ages ago!

You say you are 16, which means you are (hopefully) still in school. By now, most students your age should have had this concept explained to them by their English teacher, because it is crucial to understanding the importance of all art, and why they are SO important to our society. It is no coincidence that WDW has both rides and shows (and that they all tell stories).

Truly, being scared of rides is a sign of normalcy. It is what we do with our fear that makes the difference.

Primeval Whirl is spin (no pun intended) on a coaster style known as the "mighty mouse". It all about a rising the car up and then having it wipe back and forth as it gradually works it's way back down again, usually with a quick dip at the end to give a little speed. It jerks and spins and because it isnot banked, you are always aware that you are on the edge of the track.

Here are the ones I am worried about:

Space Mountain
Splash Mountain
Mission Space
Test Track
Rock N Roller Coaster
Primeval Whirl
Kali River Rapids
I've never done Kali myself (I'm afraid to get completely soaked!), so I can't comment on that one.

Space Mountain- I found it scary because it was a very jerky ride and I felt like I would fall out of my seat.

Splash Mountain- Only the drop is scary, but not that scary. Of course now that we know that alligators are lurking around, that might make it a little scarier...

Mission Space- I ride the tame side that doesn't spin and I don't find it scary. However, it is very scary to claustrophobic people.

Test Track- Fun, but not scary.

Rock N Roller Coaster- Not scary to me, but I find the overhead restraint to be uncomfortable.

Primeval Whirl- This one is actually a bit scary although it looks tame. I like it and I think it's fun, but there are some scary drops, twists, and turns.

Haunted Mansion- I don't find it scary but it's fun.

Have a great time and if you really don't feel up to riding something, don't ride it!

If you can handle EE and ToT, honestly the others are a piece of cake!
My fiance doesn't like coasters & won't even look in the direction of EE or ToT! Splash was a one & done thing for him, but the others are his favorites.
He spent the last 5 years being afraid to ride Rock n Roll Coaster and finally tried it our last trip, guess which ride just became his new favorite :)

I dont find Haunted Mansion scary but Dinosaur freaks me out a little.

The ride WDW calls Primeval Whirl is known elsewhere as the Mousetrap, or Wild Mouse. It is manufactured by a company called Reverchon. (There's a great website, search rollercoaster database.) The Wild Mouse is a kind of mini coaster, with the added twist that the cars spin a bit. Also, it isn't particularly smooth. The drops are very tame, but again, the motion isn't smooth. (the spinning also stops suddenly).

Some places in the USA with a Wild Mouse: Hershey Park, Dorney Park, Funtown Splashtown USA, Idlewood, and Beech Bend.

The coaster database has a good deal of useful information about all coasters worldwide. Personally, I don't like the idea of watching ride videos before going on a ride; it isn't very useful. The database gives facts that help demystify without giving away the ride theming. I find it more useful to know that a ride has a corkscrew, or 50 foot drop than blurry footage.

CM's at each ride can also tell you details like the duration of each ride. (RNRC is only 90 seconds long!)
