How safe will our bikes be?

Hi ya -
We (Hubbie, DS - 6 year old, and I) will be bringing our bikes for our stay in late Sept. I have read that there are bike racks at most bus stops inside FW as well as at the marina.

1.) How safe are the bikes at these racks all day while we are enjoying the parks, as well as sitting at an unattended camp site?
2.) Are chain locks necessary?

DH's bike is brand new and rather sporty and would be the most likely mark to walk if they tend to do that there.

My biggest concern is when we return from a hard day at the parks. Last year DS was a sleeping pup most nights when returning to our hotel, and there is no way the two adults could ride OUR bikes back to our campsite, while one of us carries the sleeping boy and the other drags his empty bike along.

My plan was to just catch a bus back to our campsite if the boy is crashed and comeback in a few minutes with our truck for the bikes.

That brings up two other questions....
3.) do the internal and external buses stop running at a particular times?
4.) are there limited hours when you are permitted to drive your car through the campground ?

Any help with this minor detail would be greatly appreciated. - thanks - lori

I'll try to answer your questions.

1 and 2--I would probably get a lock for your bikes, but I wouldn't worry about them after that. The last time I went we didn't use locks, but our bikes were all ones that no one would want, and we didn't leave them at a rack while we were at the parks. We just took them to the pool and the gift shops and such. I'm not sure what we did with them at the campsite. We might have put them in the Suburban while we were at the parks.

3--Not sure about what times the buses stop running. I'm guessing it depends on when the parks close. If it's e-night and MK is open until 1:00, you can be sure there will be transportation to the park and within the park after it's over.

4-You can drive your car through the campground whenever you want, but you can't use it for internal transportation. You can park it at your site, at the main parking lot, or you can use it to leave the park. You can't take it to the pool or anywhere else within the park because there isn't even anywhere to park at these places.

If you are going to the parks don't take your bikes leave them at your site.
When you are gone lock them up and at night when you sleep.
If you are just riding around in the campground you don't have to worry, we take are bikes all the time.
And are are all high dollar type and had no problems lots of people look at them and ask about them.
The only time you can use your car is when you come and go ,you don't really need it to get around the bueses will get you there.or rent a golf cart.

Hi,

Most folks including ourselves do not lock up our bikes at the campsites or when running in somewhere. It's a pretty casual atmosphere and a really safe place as long as you use some common sense. As far as going to the park for the day...the bike racks near the boat to MK, Pioneer Hall etc. are full of bikes and they are pretty much all locked. We always lock up our bikes when hopping on the boat out of the campground.

Have fun...
