How reliable is the Resort Reservation Availability thread?

The resort that I would like to stay at (on rented points) is showing that it would be available for my desired dates on a trip next year. Based on that data, I'd have a good shot at securing this reservation at the 7 month window if I can't find someone who has this as their home resort to rent from.

Of course, this means I am taking a huge risk (as if renting isn't risky enough) in not getting anything I really want at the 7 month mark.

Do many of the DVC members on these boards report back to that thread? I'm curious as to how much credit you give it.

Thanks!

The Resort Availability board is meant to serve as a general guideline in trends. It is a better guide of what is NOT available than of what is available. As you noted, it relies solely on input from DISBoard users for the information. And availability changes minute by minute, sometime even during your phone call to Member Services. I would not rely upon the info as indicating anything IS, or will be available, when the member calls to book the reservation. But, generally, you have a good chance of getting your desired reservation if you book right at the 7 month window. The exceptions would be major holidays and Disney events, like Marathon time, Food & Wine, etc.

Since the only information that is there is what is shared by DIS members, it really doesn't do a lot for the availability because no reports means that no one here on the DIS has shared any information about those dates.

What I think you can do, as mentioned, is to use it as a guide as to what might be difficult to get.

Availability changes all the time, but if someone has reported that they tried for something and it wasn't available, then its likely that will be gone when you call and it would be good to have a Plan B.
