Was thinking about going next June, I will run into Gay Day how were the crowds? I was also wondering how Hot it is in June?:D

I was just there while Gay Days were going on. The temps were great. Not too hot.

We were there that weekend and the crowds weren't as bad as they were the last time we went which was Easter week 2001! We stayed out of the MK on Saturday and really didn't have any problems. Pleasure Island was kind of busy the night we were there. So, I guess I would say it was moderately busy.

As far as the weather goes, I much prefer going in the spring. This is the latest we've ever gone and I thought it was really humid and there were rain showers every day. The weather we've experienced the previous times we've gone has been hot, but drier, and without rain.

Weather was great and crowds were not too bad. It was a great weekend.

We were there for Saturday the 7th - And MK was Extremely busy! I don't know if it was due to Gay Day or Summer Vacations starting or what - but it was packed on that Saturday! I would definitely avoid the First Saturday in June at MK - but it was our 1st day there - And DW said that we "Had to go See the Castle!"

So far as actual activities, I didn't notice anything real crazy going on. There were a lot of Red Shirts though! My Naive father even noticed that there were a lot of Red Shirts - and he doesn't notice anything! We saw a couple of guys dancing during the afternoon parade - but it looked like they were just having fun - not obscene or anything. If you didn't know any better, you would probably just think it was a busy day!

We did Blizzard Beach on the MK Saturday and the crowds were not bad. All in all, throughout the entire week, the crowds were moderate at the parks. We did Universal, IOA, and WDW for two weeks and the crowds were manageable.

I felt the heat was pretty miserable this trip. Bring lots of water and squeeze breezes and get into the air conditioning when you can during this time. I come from a dry climate, so the heat and humidity were difficult for me. My DD suffered from some heat exhausation one day at Universal. She got to the point of getting sick to her stomach that evening. Popsicles and gatorade did the trick to bring her back to normal, but we got quite worried for a bit. Don't over do it and you should be fine.

Hi IndyJammer.

There were a lot of Red Shirts though!

What do the red shirts signify? I realize it's related to Gay Days but was wondering whether the choice of color held any special significance.

Hi kenman.

Apparently the crowd size doesn't change, only its consistency. I guess you'll find a lot more available closet space though...

We were there june 6 -12th. We went to IOA on Sat. June 7. We felt the park was not very busy this day.

We did go to MK on Monday the 9th and felt the park was very busy all major rides at least 45min wait times. We actually left in the early afternoon and went to Epcot and this park was not busy at all.

The weather I felt was hot and humid and we actually welcomed the rain showers when they came. The heat was great for swimming and tanning but for walking around in large crowds it did get uncomfortable.

I may be incorrect, but I think wearing a red shirt on Gay Day is just to show support of the alternative lifestyle. I'm not sure if Red signifies anything or not. I thought it was just kind of neat that an unsuspecting person would actually notice the unusually large amount of Red Shirts in the Park that day!

I've was told on another site (and I'm relaying, not responsible for accuracy!) that the original purpose was to "Make Disney See Red."

??? Maybe...

It was indeed extremely busy. We stayed at Old Key West and were given an extra Magic Hour at Animal Kingdom in addition to the Disney Studios hour normally scheduled on Staurday. I thouhgt it really thoughtful for them to alert us to what was going to be a busy day at the MK.

We were there 6/7 thru 6/16 and found the crowds very manageable-except the days that SM and FITS were scheduled at MK. We hopped from MGM to MK on 6/9 just for SM and FITS and the place was nuts!! It took forever to get out of MK that night. We also went during the day on 6/11 which was another SM/FITS day and felt it was pretty crowded. It rained some the first couple of days we were there and that was it. It was very hot and humid(we are from Texas so we are accustomed to heat and humidity but it is different in Florida)we were actually begging for rain or clouds just so it would cool off a little. If you are going to WDW during Gay Days just plan to stay away from MK the first Saturday in June and you will be fine.

History of the Red Shirt:

GayDays began in 1990 as "Gay Day" in the Magic Kingdom, a single designated day (always the first Saturday in June) when the LesBiGay community is encouraged to "Wear Red and Be Seen" while visiting the world’s most popular theme park.
