I have never had them taken out...in fact I don't think I have any at all...is it still possible for them to grow in at 16? I feel no signs of any more teeth coming in...
I'm 32 years old, and I still have all mine. 2 came in partially, and 2 never came in at all. But I am in dire need of orthodontic work, and if I get the work done, I would need a palate correcting appliance for over a year, and then braces for three years. But the orthodonist refuses to do anything until the wisdom teeth are out! Like a previous poster said, the orthodonist did not want the wisdom teeth erupting and screwing up all the $$$$$ appliances/braces! So I am considering getting them pulled sometime soon. Just feels silly to mess with the teeth since they cause me no problems, but I guess they have to go.
Supercarrie - I felt my wisdom teeth first come in while I was in college, around 19/20 years old, I guess! Could happen!
In my 20's............ maybe 24ish........... had all four pulled at once...... and it hurt! Plus I was bruised all down my neck for weeks.... I looked jaundous (sp)
I was 24, I remember because for 5 years the Air Force dentists kept telling me I needed to have them removed even though I was not experiencing any problems (it was their normal practice). I kept asking if they would "knock me out" to do it and they said no, it's an outpatient procedure. No way....finally at Plattsburgh AFB I found a dentist who admitted me to the hospital, knocked me out and took all four at once. I have always had severe dental anxiety, the only reason I went to the dentist while in the Air Force was because they ordered me too Now I as a retiree I have a dentist who gives me valium in order to get through the appointments (I haven't missed one appointment yet).
Still have mine. Three of the four grew in and it looks as if I don't have the fourth. They do want to pull them though, since they moved my teeth closer together..but then they also want to give me braces. To do that though, they need to pull a baby tooth I still have and surgically bring down the adult tooth. I just tell the dentist that I am happy the way my teeth are and he will just need to find another way to put his kid through school
Actually, my dentist now is happy with the way things are...as long as I am happy with my teeth this way.
