How long did you date?

I was 22 when we got married. We where engaged a year and we dated a year before getting engaged. We just had are 10th wedding anniversary in Oct.

since you married "young" did you have a big wedding, or was it a small affair?

It was a small wedding, we went to the smokey mountains and got married in one of those little chapels :cloud9:

I was 23 when I got married, we had a 2 year engagement and had dated for 5 years. We just celebrated our 14 year wedding anniversary :)

18-21 We were engaged for 1 year and had dated 2 years before that. We got married the June he graduated from college and I had just finished my freshman year. We have been married 27 years.

We got married when I was 20. Dated for about 6 months before we were engaged, amrried about a year after we first started dating and we celebrated our 25th Anniversary this past March! :)

I got married one week after turning 25, DH was almost 28. We were engaged for 18 months, but only date 5 weeks before getting engaged.

DH and I were both 19 when we got married. Everyone said they gave our marriage 6 months but my ticker down there shows how wrong they were. :lovestruc

Dated about a year, engaged for about 2 months. :teeth:

It's so nice to see people on here that got married so young and are still together. I was 22 and DH was 20 when we got married. Of course there were people that weren't so optimistic about it but we have been together (dating and married) for about 6 years and we have a great time together. I guess it depends on each individual person and when people don't get to know you both as a couple, there is your problem. The people close to us knew how great we were for eachother.

For my first marriage I was 20 turning 21 the following month. We were engaged for six months, and were married for 16 years. Second marriage, My DH now. I was 36, and we were engaged for 3 months. We are married for 12 years on the 18th of this month.

I was 34 when I got married, actually it was 5 weeks before I turned 35. I've always been somewhat of a late bloomer, and I would have been a terrible wife in my 20's.

Sheri, I am exactly the same! Woe to me if I married the man I was dating at 18! Or even the one when I was 22. {{shudder}} The first one was immature (as was I, no doubt) and the second a posessive alchoholic who stalked me even after we were both married to other people. I was finally able to have a grown-up conversation with the second one last summer, almost 20 years after I broke up with him.

Add the kids that seem to come within a year or two of young marriages and I would have lived a nightmare in my 20's.

Instead, I waited until I was as double-dog sure as I could be. We started dating in our mid-20's and lived in sin for almost 7 years before getting married. Then we waited another 7 years before having a child.

Wow, seeing so many people who married so young I was starting to be afraid to post here as someone who married at 31. But the last two posts encouraged me to add my 2 cents :sunny:

Dated for 4 & 1/2 years + Engaged for 1 & 1/2 years (with ring for 1 year). Married for 2 & 1/2 years.

Here's to happy and healthy marriages for everyone (whenever you got married!) :cheer2:

I was 19 when we got married. He was 1 month shy of being 21. Our engagement was 9 months long. We had been dating for 2 years when we got married.
Edited to add: As you can see from my ticker, I am very happily married and in 1 month it will be 5 years of marriage and that makes 7 years of being together!

I got married a few weeks after my 22nd birthday and my DH was a few weeks after his 23rd birthday.
We were engaged for 18 months but planned the wedding as soon as we got engaged (I wanted to finish my studies first.)
We dated for 4 years before we were married and have now been married for 7 1/2 years.

I've spoken to her father on the phone (ie. he calls and ask to speak to his daughter, I call there to relay a message to the step mother, never any chit chat). The parents actually moved from California to Florida in September, so I doubt I will see them any time soon.

I have no problem waiting, the only thing that really bothers me is the fact that our government officials are trying to make marriage something between and man and a woman and overturn any laws the states have passed.

California is a nicer state than others in the fact that I am on SO's medical insurance with her job and we aren't married, civil unioned or anything of the sorts.

I don't want to get bashed or anything but I would like to state my opinion here. While I respect your relationship. Many of my friends are gay and I love them to death, I do not think it's necessary to get married. I am a christian and I think it's very sinful way of life but I still respect it. I am not one to stop love but when it comes to marriage, it is between a man and a woman. If even states in the Bible that it's between a man and woman and all other relationships will go straight to Hell.

We got married 22 months after we met. He was in the Navy so we did the long distance thing until he got out. I was 20, he was 22. We will celebrate 17 years in a month.
