How old were you when you got married?

Me - 29. DH - 28. Will be celebrate 12 wonderful years of marriage in June. I am soooooooooo glad that I waited to get married until then. I saw so fickle in my late teens and early twenties. I thought that every guy I dated was "the one" after only a few months. They all fell by the wayside. I wouldn't have appreciated DH when I was younger (I liked the whole rough looking/bad guy type. None lasted over a year.) When I met DH, I knew what type of man didn't work for me, and God told me what I needed to change about myself in order to attract the right type of man. Please note, I am not saying that everyone needs to wait until this age - I needed to.

I turned 18 in March and DH turned 19 in December when we got married on July 22, 1978.

I had just turned 20 and my husband turned 21 5 days after our wedding. We've been together since 1983, and in Sept. it will be 19 years of marriage!

Regarding the age, it probably depends on if you went to college or not. None of my friends who went to college married before they were 22, most waited until around 25. Friends who got jobs after high school tended to marry earlier.

I totally disagree with you here. I am currently in college, as would be expected for my age. I'm a few semesters behind because I took a year out right out of high school- a divorce, both parent relocating, and now DH deploying to the Persian Gulf will do that to you.

I went to a top notch boarding school- needless to say, we are all in college. A LARGE percentage of the girls have diamonds on the finger, have purchased a wedding gown, or are tending that way quickly.

You can't lump people into a broad and over-reaching statement like that. Before I transferred to where I am now, nearly all the girls were married becuase it was a military town. Why? You're nothing in the eyes of the Department of Defense until that piece of paper says you're a wife. I found that group of young women, mothers, and wives to be far more mature than the girls I am presently in school with. There's a huge percentage of college students that are married- we just choose to live at home with our spouses and not participate in frat parties. Just becuase you don't see us doesn't mean we're not there. I think you'd be surprised how many of us there are.

I think the poster you quoted was responding based on her experience.

In my experience, not many of my friends from college married before they were 25. However, it was not unusual for some couples in my hometown to marry right out of high school, get divorced, and remarry before they turned 21.

DH and I were both 25, and we have been happily married for 6 years.

Both DH and I were 21 when we married 15 years ago this May 22nd! :woohoo: Hard to believe, but we love one another more than we did then and hopefully within the next year we'll get to share that love with a little DS or DD.

I was 20 the first time.( Dad telling me before we went down the aisle that thare was still time to cancel should have been a clue) We were together 13 miserable years.
Finally met the right guy and got married at 40. He is truly my best friend and a great step dad to my kids!
My parents were 22 and 20 and just celebrated thier 42nd anniversary yesterday! :cool1:

Sure I can. I went to a big state school, and the percentage of students married before they graduated or left was quite small. It's a fact.

Edited to add: Even BYU estimates their married student body at about 25 percent.

I imagine now that there are more non traditional students in college, that rate is going up, but for the traditional four year college student at a state school or elite university, I'd say more than 75 percent are not married.

Heck, the age of marriage in this country is around 25 these days.

I was 19, DW 20. 32nd anniversary May 30

I was 16 and he was 19. We will celebrate our 35th Wedding Anniversary this November 27th and I love him even more today than I did 35 years ago.

And they said it wouldn't last! :goodvibes
I could have written this myself (especially the last line!) except our next anniversary is "only" our 32nd. ;)

I was just curious to know how old you and your partner were when you got married?
We married when I was 20 and DW was 19, and have been happily married for nearly 26 years.
I still tell her I love her every day, we hold hands when we are out walking and she is still just as beautiful.
I feel as good today as I did on our wedding day

DH was 20 and I was 19 as well and we have been happily married 20 years this year. :) DH still tells me he loves me, we still snuggle, we still hold hands (when DS allows us...lol) and he still tells me I am sexy....pretty good for someone turning 40.

We were both 23. We'll be celebrating our 25th anniversary this summer. It's been so much fun that it seems like only yesterday.

I was 20 and DH was 23. We will be married 22 years this June.
I certainly thought I was old enough but now that I have a daughter that will be 19 in a few months I'm thinking no way will she be old enough to get married for at least six or seven years! ;)

We were both 20. We have been together for 13 years and will be married 9 years in august.

Both 18 (although I'm 7 months older) and celebrating our 10 year anniversary this summer. :)
