How old was your child when you STOPPED making them Easter baskets?

I remember always making my oldest son's Easter baskets myself because you could put much better toys and cooler candy in it by buying it yourself and just buying an empty basket and grass. I still do that with my 2 younger kids who are now 12 and 13.

I think I kept making my oldest DS28's baskets up until he was 15 or 16. I just put more mature things in the basket besides toys and stuffed animals. Like T-Shirts and DVD's/CD's.

I mentioned to my DD13 that I had almost finished making their Easter baskets for this year (I keep them hidden in my closet) and she seemed surprised that I was even making them any because "I'm a teenager now mom"

I even get a little extra candy from whatever I am putting in my younger 2 kid's baskets and still give some to my oldest son and his g/f. Not in a basket though. I put some candy in a ziploc bag and next time he comes by I give him his Easter bag.

But long story short, I am curious how old your kids are/were when you stopped making/buying them Easter baskets and what kind of things do you put in the baskets? And if you don't mind me asking how much do you spend on it?

I have bought all the candy and Bloonies and Webkinz off Amazon but I have spent about $100 so far for 2 kids. I'm wondering if that is average or high or low compared to what other ppl do for their own kids.

I still do baskets for my kids (though my older just got married... but up until now I've always done them), and one for my DH, too! Kids are 17 and nearly 21. I also still hide eggs. They have both suggested they'd be disappointed if I stopped.

My mom hid ONE egg for my brothers, sisters-in-law, DH, and me each year. It always had a $100 bill in it. :cool1: That was fun.

LOL I was just saying this to my DH - I don't think I will do it this year. I hope they are not too disappointed. Do you think 29 and 24 is old enough to stop, lol?

I haven't stopped yet. My "kids" are almost 22, 19, and almost 14. I'm putting in some candy, a paperback book or two, a little cash, and a gift card each. It will probably be about $50/kid. It was so much cheaper and easier when they were little! My oldest is graduating from college this year, so this may be the last one for him. Though I'll probably send an Easter "care package" to him next year depending on where he is and what he is doing.

I still do baskets for my kids, dd18, her boyfriend 19, dd15 and DS13 and we also still do a small Easter egg hunt! I will probably continue until I have grandkids:).

I spend about $50 per kid and $10 on DD's boyfriend. I even make DH a basket with all his favorites in it:love:

My sisters want to hide eggs for our triplet nephews and niece - they're 15. I'm thinking that's too old. (the eggs would be plastic with quarters or candy.

We have a great-nephew who is 18 months and we'll have little gifts and/or plastic eggs for him.

my kids are young still (11/9/9), but I was just talking about this with my sister whose kids are a few years older. Mine are still very into the egg hunt and their baskets, but hers aren't. I am wondering how much longer I have!

we definitely do not spend what you do on baskets, ours are much smaller. Usually some candy, a chocolate bunny, and some summer toys. last year they got tennis rackets, this year they need new boogie boards, goggles, beach shovels. when they were younger they would get a stuffed animal, too, but we have been inundated with them so stopped doing that. lol.

I say enjoy it as long as you want to do it and as long as they enjoy it. if your dd feels too old, maybe she would have fun stuffing eggs with you for church or your community if they do an egg hunt. That could help keep some fun in easter.

oooh, I LOVE this idea! am totally going to do it when my kids are too old for an egg hunt.

I'm 41 and my mom still likes doing a basket for all of us....and I like making one for her...

Have all the makings, ready to go, for my 37 y/o dd and my 19 y/o dd. The 39 y/o ds would get one as well but he lives in Tampa!! Way to far away. Same thing with Christmas stockings. Anyone at my house that morning, gets one.

I think we stopped with the Easter baskets (and Christmas stockings) when my younger daughter was about 11 or 12.

This thread reminded me of something. Over the past 10 years or so, I've noticed pre-made Easter baskets filled with small toys and wrapped in cellophane. Does anyone actually buy these? We never got/gave out toys for Easter, just candy.

The reason I ask if anyone actually buys these is because all the different types of stores (Walmart, CVS, Family Dollar, supermarkets, etc) seem to have 100 of these the week before Easter, and 99 leftover the week after Easter.

Don't recall about the baskets, but we had egg hunts for our DDs through college! We didn't have much candy, but cash, a little jewelry, some little odds & ends. They would get giddy with the excitement of the hunt. It was so fun to see them act like little kids again. Told the DD who is the aunt of our 20 month old granddaughter we'd like to have a little egg hunt this weekend. She asks "Will there be any eggs for adults???" So we'll have some grown-up eggs for her and her twin sister. Jelly beans & chocolate for the 20 month old, little liquor samplers for our 29 year olds.:)

My sister is 30, I'm 30+, and our mom still gives us candy for Easter. :thumbsup2 she will give my kids a mini basket (candy & a couple trinkets). honestly, it is just something she loves to do, and a fun way to celebrate the holiday!

I still do baskets for DS, DDIL both 33 and other DS who is 29. I do a little candy that I know they like and money which they definately like. I also do one for my mom who is 87.

We are 59 and 58. DMIL still makes us a basket. My Mom did until she got really sick. I always took Mom french cremes and DMIL gets Godivas. No harm in doing something nice for your loved ones! I got DS a box of Godiva truffles, a chocolate bunny, a DVD, some Peeps(gotta have those!) and will fill some gold plastic eggs with some dollars and change.

I just stopped by the post office today and dropped off a priority box filled with peeps, chocolate bunnies, jelly beans, etc and mailed it to DS28 and his GF. The return address said Easter bunny at our address.

DD just left to go back to college yesterday after spring break, and in her car - we stuffed a box from the Easter Bunny that contained baskets for DD, her boyfriend, and a girlfriend(where DD is going next weekend to celebrate Easter.)

She is almost 19.

Just like Santa - if you don't believe, you will not receive ;)

DD13 and DS10 and DH are getting baskets this year. I was out shopping for them today. 2 yrs ago, they organized and egg hunt for us, my parents and my parents friends. We had a blast. The kids filled eggs and hid them.
Then they video taped us running around searching for the eggs. Fun times.

I got one until i was 16 or so and remember bring like, what the heck can't a girl get some sweet tarts and kit kats. In our family it had only been candy. My husband (32) still gets one from his parents with gift cards and candy, to each their own...
