On Castaway Cay today, I was heading back to the ship and saw a man showering his two children at one of the open air showers that is out in plain site by all who are walking down the path. The little boy was around 2 and the little girl was 3 or 4, and they were both totally nude. And no, they were not European, as he was talking to them quite loudly and was definitely an American.

Is it just me who thinks there is something creepy about a buck naked 4-year-old old running around in front of a crowd of people? God forbid, but what if a pedophile was among them? Maybe I'm a prude, but it gave me the willies. Seems like anything over a year or two is too old for public nudity of that sort, i.e. running around where a lot of people are present. Am I nuts or do y'all agree?

On the flipside, there was a foreign woman up by the Mickey pool with her kid in a thong that was totally up her butt crack, with her cheeks dancing free in the wind! But hey, at least she's of an age where she can choose to put it on display!

I probably wouldn't think much about it, being a mom myself. However, at age 4, my kids would have been horrified if I made them shower in front of everyone like that! They were both very comfortable running around the house nekkid and thought it was hilarious, but they were very modest in public!

I wouldn't have one that with my own kids at that age (though my son was always running around nude whenver he could get away with it until he was onlder than 4), but I wouldn't have really thought anything of it either.

Just put in down to Dad probably not the one usually in charge and if Mom knew, she would have blown. Most likely, she was finally having some Mommy alone time over at the Cabana's getting a massage. Forgive and forget. I know, I have a husband and 3 boys.:rolleyes1

I think the thong lady would have to be the worst!!:rotfl2: She should use a little better judgement on a disney cruise . I can honestly say as a mom of 5 boys that if I saw her at the pool, we would go elsewhere. How embarrasing for her kids. I am sure she was no supermodel either.:lmao:

If I passed the dad & kids, I probably wouldn't have given it much thought....now if they where around 6yr and above then I would have been uncomfortable:confused3 and how embarrasing for the kid.

Yes, and the best part was that she was right by the Mickey pool with her tot!! Quite a site for the families! The butt cheeks were almost within the running to qualify for a "wide load" sticker.

I thought you were saying the kid had a thong on at the pool!! I was about to get sick.

I can tell you our family would have had a good laugh (and I'm sure my kids would have all pointed and said "crackalackin") if they saw the lady at the pool!

As far as the little ones getting naked, it happens-mine would do anything they could to loose their clothes at that age-and if DH was in charge-they'd probably take full advantage of his lax attitude.

:rotfl: :rotfl: I had the pleasure :sad2: of seeing the very HAIRY dad in a thong at the Mickey Pool last December...my dd, 14, couldn't finish eating her burger cause he was sitting right in front of her chair and the back hair was grossing her out!

:thumbsup2 My thought too! My DD8 from the year 4 and up wouldn't be caught dead doing that! At 2 & 3 - :confused3 she may have wanted the sand off herself too! Mom would have done so discreetly, maybe have dad hold up a towel. Dad... hey, he loves to camp and does everything fast, especially cleaning the dishes ... ;)

On our 4/8 Freedom cruise, I walked above the adult pool on the FIRST day onboard and said to my DH "come here, this is the adult pool, how cool does this look" we both look down and there is some chickie laying on her back with her bathing suit top untied strategically exposing her pierced nip! :scared1: My DH said quickly "I didn't see anything!" :rolleyes1 I was totally obvious that this was done on purpose.

 :headache: Great, here's hoping my teen sons don't look over the rail. If I wasn't on a first hour boarding high, I might have ---um --- yelled "NICE HOOP - A LITTLE SMALL THOUGH!" and run! :scared: But I choose to not stare and keep walking! I was on a cruise! WOO HOO!

Oh well, at least you were on a wonderful cruise on a beautiful island!

I see more nudity in the Disneyland bathrooms :) Diaper changing people jeez... ;)

2,3,4.... I wouldn't have thought twice and certainly wouldn't have considered it creepy.

now packing a thong when going on a Disney cruise? that's creepy...:sad2:

I also saw a woman in a thong bikini at the Mickey pool last September. Blech!

The kids...nothing shocks me. I have three and I've seen it all! :lmao: :rotfl:

I'd prefer to not see anyone I don't know (and some I do know) nekkid. Age has nothing to do with it.

As someone who body surfed daily at Typhoon lagoon for years nothing would shock me.

Some British are not the least bit reluctant for the whole family to change clothes in the open on the beach. The contrast of bright red and ghost white was always good for a chuckle. There is a good reason they have the (affectionate) nickname lobsters.

Locals walk on the beach in January, the Canadians tan and the Brits go swimming.

I guess cold and modesty are relative terms.

Also the Wave Machine at Typhoon Lagoon is responsible for its own collection of de-clothed bodies.

I agree. I think as americans, we are VERY aware of pedophiles especially nowadays. I try to dress my DD3 as modestly as I can. For me personally, I definitely wouldn't have her "exposed" in public like that.

When we travel to Europe though, it's totally different isn't it? They let their 3-6 year olds swim in the pool/beach without a shirt on, just bikini bottom. And of course, people of all body types just let it all "hang out" without a care in the world :rotfl2: (with or without a bathing suit) while I'm walking around with a sarong because I don't want my "love handles" showing :scared1: Oh well.......

I would not let my children run around like that at that age, but everyone is diffrent. On RC they have a deck for topless sunbathing-which I think is not appropriate with so many kids onboard--it isn't that out of the way, and took me by surprise.

In todays world, with camera phones and the internet being abused, who knows where those innocent children's photos potentially could end up. The what ifs are just too risky. As magical as the Disney environment is, the real world still exists and not all of it is a pretty picture. Just my thoughts. :sad1:

:rotfl2: I'm with you, Honu!!!! And Barb, we had a similiar experience last month at Castaway Cay. We were at the family beach and DH pointed out a boy who was probably 4 or 5 and his mom (I guess it was his mom) had him in his birthday suit swimming with the fishies. Poor fish! I was not horrified because my 13 year old was with a friend snorkeling and my 1 year old didn't know to pay attention, but DH and I agreed that Castaway Cay wasn't the best place for other kids to learn the differences between boys and girls!!! :scared1:

so I saw the title to this thread, and thought it was going to be about someone's experience at Orient Beach and some octenagarian (sp?) doing the european style sans clothes routine and the Op was wondering at what age we thought folks ought to just cover up what mother nature, father time, and sir issac newton's gravity were pulling down toward the earth. and I was all set to say something smarmy like "all depends how recently she has visited Dr. 90210 to have all the goodies lifted" or something like that.

and it turns out the thread is about nekkid preschoolers who appear to be in close proximity to the supervising adult, and whether we agree with the standards and selections involved in that supervision.

oh well.

as for not wanting to see anyone I don't know nekkid, or some similar sentiment expressed in this thread, and echo'd by another--why, that would put all the local strip clubs out of business!

It wouldn't have bothered me, but then we really don't have a hang up regarding nudity at our house. The Topless Deck on Carnival and on RCI was never a big deal as it was just the human body. It was never the people having intercourse deck.

I have seen far more intimate displays on the balconies of the ships docked next to us in port.
