How old for kids to ride by themselves?

Is there a minimum age for kids to ride rides by themselves? I know this may be a stupid question - just don't know.

I'm planning on going with my 2 girls this summer - ages 11 and 8. They both love Space Mountain. I cannot stand it - it ruins me for a good few hours.

Would I be able to stay with them through the line, have them get on, and then meet them where the ride lets off?

Thanks!

If they are over the minimum height then they can ride alone, except for the Tomorrowland Speedway. You have the option of waiting in line with them and exiting instead of boarding on most attractions, including Space Mountain. Just tell the CM you want to exit instead of getting on the ride and wait for them at the end. They will show you where to go.

its 7 so you are good. You should also know that you can be in the queue with them all the way upto loading. and then you can take the "chicken exit"

One extra note your 11 year old DD can tour the park by herself.

When we were there Jan. 2011, my daughter was 7 and was not allowed to ride Dumbo or BTMRR by herself. It did not matter if she met the minimum height (which she does since she is very tall for her age). Both CMs told us that it was age 8.

You have to be 48 inches to ride alone (except the speedway, which is 54 inches), and 48 inches 9+ to tour the park alone.

Are you sure that 11 is the age to tour by themselves? We have YES tickets and my 12 year old has to have a chaperon to attend the class. After the age of 13, the student doesn't have to have a chaperon but an adult has to stay in the park.

I was thinking it was 7 also, but maybe that is Universal??

Last I knew, it was 7 for rides at Disney alone. (Not sure about touring the park alone). Universal is 48" for alone. Our last trip was Nov of 2011 and my oldest was asked his age when we said he wasn't riding right next to me. (When there weren't enough seats across since I had two younger kids with me as well). He was 8, but I was told 7 was the mimimum. It didn't happen this trip at Universal, but at the trip before, they measured him to see if he could go alone. He was 6.5 years old but made 48" and didn't have to ride right next to me as a result.

At Disney it is 7.

They will be fine going on the rides by themselves.

I have read its actually 10. The yes classes work a little different since its more of a closed behind doors kind of thing.

I'm sure it's 7 too :confused3

Where are all these random height and age requirements springing up from?! :rotfl:

I agree it is 7. My daughter is 8 right now and the last time we went she was able to go on rides by herself. As a previous poster mentioned, I stayed in line with her until it was time for her to board the ride.

We did this with Tower of Terror, Teacups, Big Thunder and Everest. I do want to mention she had been all there rides before with her older siblings on a previous trip.

At 7 you can ride by yourself and tour the parks alone. You have to be 10 to enter the park alone.

Maybe someone should call them and get an exact number. :lmao:

I never knew they had a minimum age. I was always told you just have to be the minimum height. :confused3

Just looked up the requirements for Teacups...WDW site is still saying that children under 7 must be accompanied by a person age 14 or older...

Says the same for Space Mountain....

Yes, that is the supervised children policy. Any child 7 years of age or older can ride alone, and if they are under 7 they have to be riding with someone 14 or older.

To ride any attraction alone you must be 7 years of age or older. If the attractions has a height requirement then you must meet that and be 7 years or older to ride. Any child under the age of 7 must be with someone age 14 or over.

If an attraction has a single rider queue, you must be 7 years or older to enter the line, even if you are accompanied by someone over the age of 14.

Okay, I must REALLY be protective or something. I wouldn't let my 13 year old ride alone. I barely let my 9 year old go to the men's restroom alone this trip!

Though, after seeing him this trip, the 13 year old would do great touring alone...though I'd miss him terribly and seeing his...well, non-reaction. LOL

WOW 13?? Maybe I'm just underprotective - I was PSYCHED when both my kids were 7 and older. I GLADLY send them on the teacups alone now. And this past trip - at 8 and 9 - happily sent them on Rock N Roller Coaster a few times (once is enough for me on that ride - but they love to do it over and over).

Yes, my experience at WDW was that at age 7 they were allowed to go alone. Once when they were 6 and 7 they tried to go on Teacups alone (I was in line with them and in that line you can see them the whole time - I just moved right over to the exit to wait) - the CM asked them their ages, when they answered that dd was still 6...CM looked around for me and made me come in the exit to ride with them. I wasn't trying to sneak them on - They had ridden together on the trip prior so I didn't realize it wasn't allowed.

Anyway - OP - you should be fine.
