How old do your kids act?

My son who is nine acts like a fourteen year old. The reason is that most of his friends are at least a few years older than him. Most of the games they play on his Gamecube are older games (minus the violent, gory ones), most of his hobbies are what older kids do. He and I play a lot of sports together, and he plays really good for his age. In fact he has the hardest time playing with kids that are his own age. He gets bored really quickly. Although sometimes when he gets hurt he'll cry like a nine year old, reminding us of how old he really is.

My daughter is the opposite. She is six, but she loves playing with younger kids. She loves babies, and loves to play with kids that are three and four.
Although when it comes to amusement rides she is going to be my roller coaster buddy, nothing frightens her (my son is a big wimp in this area).

It's amazing how to kids can be so different.

My girls are 6 and 7. Sometimes they act like they are 2 and sometimes they act like they are 30.

My son is eight but acts 11 or 12...he is getting into that I am cool stage :) ...he is just more mature than alot of his friends - alot of them still act babyish...

I think this is because we always treated him like a big boy...none of that goo goo gaa gaa stuff...alot of my friends talked to their children in "baby talk" and you can really tell...a bottle is a bottle...not a baa baa for pete's sake! :) :)

Most of the time, my 16 yo dd acts like she's 30. Then again, she's acted that way since she was 5 so I'm kind of used to it. :teeth:

However, she did request a coloring book and "a ginormous box of crayons" on her Christmas list so she still has her little kid moments.

We didn't talk baby talk to our kids, either. But I am not in a big hurry for them to grow up, either. It's hard to balance it, isn't is?

Yes it is...I am sure you know what I mean with the baby talk...for some reason it has always "irked" me. I tell my son everyday that he will always be my baby...but the years have gone too fast... :sad2:

Alot of kids today are inmature with their manners as well. I had a kid here the other day (I do like him by the way) that said...I want snack!...What is that? I made him say please...I am totally getting OT now...Sorry!!!

DD9 acts older for the most part- I think maybe because she is an only child and only has us to interact with. In her extr-curricular classes/activities she acts more like the older kids as far as following instructions and concentrating - and can be almost too serious. She plays mostly with kids her age or older and doen't seem to be to interested in the younger kids in the neighborhood. We never did the baby talk and discouraged whining..it irks me when kids even older than DD still do this. We talk alot and dsicuss things in a very grown up way (while keeping it age appropriate) so she is used to being treated as an adult in this way - and is very opinionated and has a real sense of right and wrong/unfair.(which is good and bad at this age!)

At home, however, she acts younger - trying to rely on us to do everything for her and to think for her - we are constantly working to turn this around.

My Ds is 12 and he acts like he's 12, I guess. He loves video games, girls are just beginning to make him blush, a good ripping fart makes him laugh and he flourishes as we give him more responsibility.

DD, on the other hand...She's 9 and i think she acts like she's about 6. Might have more to do with her being disabled with her autism and not using oral language, and we have worked out a system of communication that has drastically reduced tantrums and meltdowns. But, seeing her ask for things is such a joy! She seems to have grown so much, she even feels good enough to assert herself at times. :sunny:

DS8 pretty much acts his age, but when you talk to him, you would think he's about 10. Some of the words he uses sometimes shocks me, but then again he's always been an old soul. DS13 always acted older than he really is. His maturity level is about 3 years more than his age number.
