How often do you take time off work? Do you only take time off work if you are going on vacations or have an appointment? Or do you take long weekends...?

I normally only take time off for vacations, planned medical procedures (I had an endoscopy a few weeks ago). I did take 1/2 day this past Friday to go away for the weekend. I'm taking Tuesday off, but ds9 and dh had dr appts. Dh isn't going to his appointment so I'm thinking about going to work, although I'm looking at the mess from vacation and thinking about staying home ALONE!

Looks like we may staying close to home this year due to the economy :confused3 . I'll miss my Disney fix.

I only take off when I'm going on vacation -- never just to have a day off.

My late DH worked for the same company for 38 years and never took one day off - unless it was a regular vacation day..

He was robbed one night and beaten severely (with a baseball bat and a solid metal pipe) by two thugs.. He had 3 broken ribs; a concussion; they broke his nose; he needed 187 stitches in his head; and both of his ankles were sprained.. The next morning he was in work - on time - on crutches.. He called it "loyalty" - I called it "insanity".. But - he was a former Marine and he always used to tell me, "When you're a Marine, you don't just call in sick.."

When I worked, if I was sick, I called in - until I went to work for a doctor and due to the nature of my duties and the structure of her office staff, I had to be there - unless I was in ICU..:rotfl:

I take longe weekends also. I take 4 days every weekend (S,S,M,T). I work more if I want to or need to though. I was on vacation last week and I'm working a little extra to make up for it. I take at least 2 weeks off a year. I don't want to burn out, ya know. ;)

I take off any and every chance I get.

I hadn't really thought about it. I take off whenever I want/need to. DH only has 15 days of vacation/year, but I have 32. So I have time to burn. I took off a day last week to chaperone my DD9's field trip.

I take off a week for vacation twice a year (one family vacation + one visit with relatives over Christmas). Usually I take longer than a week. though. DH only takes the 5 days but I take off a few days before we leave (to pack, clean house, etc) and after we get home (to unpack, and generallly recover -lol). So I end up being off for two weeks. (I only work 4 days a week, so I can take 8 vacation days and be off for two weeks).

I take off for my kids' birthdays, first day of school, school plays, concerts, etc. I pretty much use my time for them, aside from our actual trips.

I take off:
my vacations- 5 weeks
Personal days- 6
Sick time- up to 12 days a year
holidays- 13 paid a year-I take most off rather than work which is an option to the senior people

In another 1692 days I will be retired and then only work a part time job if/when I want-or not LOL....

I work for the state. I get off all holidays and then ones we make up here in Virginia (Lee-Jackson Day). I also have a flex Fri every other week. I use ALL of my vacation and sick time as well. I work hard and play hard. I need every bit of my leave time.

I work 3 days a week. I have 3 weeks vacation and all holidays paid and 7 sick days.

I do not usually need to take other time off, but I do if I have to. Otherwise I play around with my 3 days a week, to be there for field trips, appt, etc.

I work in a school so I already feel that since we have so much time off as it is, that I don't need to take days off during school hours. My kids are both in college now, though, so I no longer need days off for their activities, etc. I do, however, get 2 personal days which I use and lots of sick time that I only use when I am truly sick.

I teach in a small public college. I get the state/federal holidays, Xmas break, summer break (unless I want to teach extra, which I never do), and Spring Break. I also take an occasional sick day, usually to deal with DD. I also am allowed 2 personal days per school year, but I rarely use them. They don't carry over to the next year, but it's just too hard to turn my classroom over to someone else. It's more work! LOL

Wow, I only WISH I had the time you guys get - I think I need a new job!

I get 5 vacation days and 5 personal days per year. Six holidays and that's it...

I take all my time plus usually 3-4 random days per year without pay. Like next month I am taking a day w/o pay for my birthday to go to Disneyland. I am out of paid time for the year.:sad1:

I get 4 weeks vacation (as of last year), 3 personal days and my birthday off every year, in addition to 7 paid holidays. I don't take any other time off. If I'm too sick to go in I will most likely use a personal day (rare). No vacation plans away from home this year and I usually only take one week at a time. I still have a week and two days to take before the end of January.

I get about five weeks off per year. Holidays, vacation and sick days are all lumped into PTO(paid time off). I've been working at the same place for 22 years and gather PTO at the highest rate. I don't usually use individual days, i prefer to take full weeks off.

I regularly take a long weekend and go on vacations at least twice a year. I have four weeks vacation, four weeks sick leave, and many holidays. The unused vacation and sick leave roll over so after working at this job for four years I've got a LOT of time saved.

I recently moved from a job where I worked 3 twelve hour shifts to one where I work 5 days a week. DH and I always go away one weekend a month, so I take a day or two off every month for a long weekend.

I'm salaried so I can flex my time for doctor's appts.

I have 4 weeks of paid time off per year (includes sick and vacation time) and 8 holidays. I have never taken time off just to have time off, but I am considering taking a week off next spring just to hang out.
