How often do you take time off work?

Wow. it looks like a lot of people have flexible work schedules. I wish I had those flex schedules. My boss doesn't allow us to work a 4 day week. If I could I would. I'd work 4 ten hour days just to have a day off!

I've been at my job 5 yrs. I get 2 weeks vacation time, 8 paid holidays, and up to 3 days at a time paid sick leave (then FMLA/Short term disability) *Knocks on wood* I haven't taken any sick time since Oct. 2007. I have the option of working 4 ten hour days which makes life easier;) but usually end up working 5 ten hour days:confused3 I LOVE my job and hate to take time off....ends up being more work for me in the long run:rotfl: (HR Asst./Payroll)

I started a new job six months ago and we get ZERO days off our first year. Sometimes I think I'll crack...

At one year, we get one week, at two years we get two weeks and at five we get 3. That maxes it.

We also only get six holidays per year.

I love the job but ... whew! I'd like a break!

Oh my, I feel bad for you. No days off the first year! WOW!!! That stinks! They need to change that rule :sad2:

I've talked to them about it (about how hard it is to go that long without time off). It's such a long-standing rule that they just don't see it. Since most people survive their first year, they think I'm nuts :lmao:

But otherwise it's a great place to work. So I guess I'll wait it out and take time off next year.

That is what happened to me at my job the first year- since I was hired in Feb- I had to work until the following Jan until I got any time off- in Jan I got 2 weeks vac. 3 personal days and 12 sick days but that 11 months was a long 11 months. I did end up taking 3 days off a few months after I was hired but they were bereavement days since my dad died so those you get the day you are hried

Even thought the company I work for has no benefits, no sick days, only has 4 holidays that we get paid they make a big deal about us calling in if we are sick or have an emergency. They pay us peanuts and make us work well above what is expected for the job description. Oh but they are in the Fortune 500. Go figure. Yeah, I love my job.

Only good thing I can say about it is the people I work with they are wonderful, plus the hours are perfect for me to be there for DD if she needs me. Once she graduates high school I am out of there.

I have plenty of vacation/personal time with my job. Im taking the next 6 days off to go to DL! If I have my annual appt, I just take time away from work to get that taken care of. Other than that, I dont take much time away.

I work for a small start-up company and we get zero paid time-off. However, I can take unpaid time up to a reasonable amount. Because mine is the secondary income in the family that gives me flexibility. I rarely go for more than a couple of months without a long weekend, but almost never more than 5 days. :)

In the job I am getting ready to lose:headache: , I have 4 weeks vacation, 3 family care days, 2 floating holidays, 8 paid holidays, and unlimited sick time. I use as much as I possibly can.

That's the number one reason why I am going to miss my job.:sad2:

How often do you take time off work? Do you only take time off work if you are going on vacations or have an appointment? Or do you take long weekends...?

I try to limit my call in time when DD has an emergency snow day or emergency sick day for either of us. Otherwise just vacations is enough. :goodvibes

I get 10 day vacation (2 weeks), 4 personal days, and 13 paid holidays. I also work 4 ten hour days and get thursdays off which works well with holidays this year. For example, I get Thanksgiving, the day after, and because my flex day falls on a holiday, I will also get Monday off.

I always take a week in the summer for our Outer Banks vacation. I try to lump in at least 2-3 days here and there for long weekend vacations but with the new flex time I won't need to do that as much. I rarely take a day here or there because it eats up precious vacation time!

I'm a teacher so I get 13 weeks vacation per year plus 100 days sick pay. The vacations are spread so that I never have to work more than 8 consecutive weeks. I love my job :)

 I take long weekends and leave early quite often, at least monthly.

Wow, what do you do for work?? That sounds so nice!!

My job is insanely busy. I work in a large school district and there is only one of me for my position, so if I'm not at work there is no one to fill in for me. I often show up for work 15-20 minutes late (but still before the school day starts) & sometimes I can leave 15 minutes early, but vacations are tough. I'm lucky that I have school vacations & holidays throughout the year though. It's really just hard to call in if I'm sick.

I work f/t in a public school system and p/t in retail, so usually if I'm not working one job I'm working the other one:upsidedow .

I work on contract. I get 23 paid leave days per year. This is what I take. To visit the Doctor or Dentist, I use one of my paid leave days.

For illness I do not get paid at all until day 3 of an illness. For Illness over 7 days I have to get a doctors certificate.

As you can imagine, I never take any sick leave.

I must really spread the viruses.........just call me Influenza Aarvarks

I teach. In addition to school holidays and vacations, I get 5 personal days and 12 sick days a year.

I hardly ever use the sick days. I know I didn't use any last year or the year before. I do use the 5 personal days a year, usually to go to doctor's appointments or to attend field trips with my kids at their school.

I have 20 vacation days and 13 sick days a year. I don't use much sick leave, under 5 days a year. We are allowed to use sick leave for doctor and dentist appointments for both ourselves and our children.

We are allowed to carry 240 hours of vacation time over from year to year and I do, so I'm forced to use everything I earn every year. Hey, there's no way I'm giving it back!

I usually use 10 days out of the 20 for week-long vacations. The other 10 days I use here and there throughout the year.
