How often do you replace your hair dryer?

I average 8-12 months on every single hair dryer I have ever owned. I have purchased top of the line, and bottom of the barrel, and every thing in between. Yet nothing had lasted more than 12 months. I just had one burn out this week that was purchased Sept 26, 2016, according to my Amazon order history. I do use my hair dryer almost every single day, but it only takes 10 minutes at most to dry.

Tell me what I am doing wrong? I clean out the filter on a weekly basis to try to help also.

Mine last several years. I buy $20 ones from Target. I've had my current foldable dryer so long, all the graphics and lettering have worn off and I can't even remember what brand it is! My hair is very thick and also takes about 10 min to dry my hair.

I think something is wrong with your outlet or you just have supremely bad luck with hairdryers. They should last several years.

I have had mine for at least 6 years and it still works great, although I wish it were a little lighter.

I think I last bought a hair dryer 15 years ago? I blow dry my hair maybe twice a year. It easily takes 25 minutes so I don't bother unless absolutely necessary.

I JUST had to finally replace my college hair dryer last month - that $20 Conair lasted me 16 years!!!!! OP, are you maybe holding it too close to your head and burning it out?

ETA: I saw you mentioned that you clean the filter once a week?? Not sure what "filter" you mean other than just making sure there's no dust on the back, but honestly I've never done anything for mine. Maybe the less you fidget with it the better??

I had my last one for 4 or 5 years when it suddenly burnt out. It freaked me out because sparks started flying out of it. I shower at night and dry my hair before bed.

My current dryer -- I don't remember what it is, but it's supposed to be of halfway decent quality -- is about 9 years old. The one I used prior to that was a cheap foldable travel dryer I'd had since my teens, so approximately 15 years.

Btw, the cheap dryer from my teens still works, my husband just thought I deserved an upgrade.

It's definitely not the outlet. I've lived in several places over the last 5 years, and no difference from one house to the next. And, I have a small fan plugged into the same outlet that never moves...no problems with it!

The last several dryers I've used have a removable filter on the back vent, and it comes off very easily to clean & prevent dust from restricting the air flow. So, it's not really fidgeting with it, just simple maintenance.

We do travel by car once a month or so, but they don't get a lot of bumping around or anything.

It sounds like I'm in the minority for being a hair dryer killer. o_O

I'm on my 3rd in 30 years. The current one is about 4 years old. None of them have been high-end; probably all purchased at WalMart. I blow dry 2 or 3 times a week. I always pay attention to keeping the air intake clean - maybe that helps? :confused3

I blow dry my hair everyday. I do buy expensive ones (about $100+ each). They probably each last me about 10 years. Even my hairdresser doesn't go through them that fast and she's using hers all day.

I blow dry my hair every single day. My daughter blow dries her hair every other day or so.

I buy low end hair driers ($20 to $30)? I'm on my second or third in 30 years. My latest is at least 10 years old.

Have you tried checking for lint on the intake filter?

I think you might just have really bad luck. I can't remember the last time I bought a hairdryer, but it has to have been at least 7 to 10 years ago, if not more. I blowdry every other day and I have never cleaned out the lint filter, maybe I should go do that...

Honestly, if they're dying that often, I'd probably start buying somewhere I could also purchase a warranty. I know Wal-mart often asks me at the register if I want to purchase a warranty at the time of purchase. It's a few dollars. I never do, but in your case I might consider it.

I have the same problem with irons. I probably should take my own advice and buy the dang warranty.

Wow....I've bought maybe 3 in the last 20 years. Never had one blow out, just not blow as hot a I like it so it was replaced.

Hairdryers are probably the one thing that always lasts in my house. I can't even remember when I replaced it and I use it everyday.

I believe that my current drier was purchased in college, so around 2000. It's a cheap $20 fold up Conair. Same with my big barrel Conair curling iron which was purchased in 1999. I don;t use them everyday anymore but they have lasted me a very long time.

There is NO hairstyle out there worth daily drying (or washing, so bad for your hair unless in the very fine/very oily group of people)! So yeah, mine is over 20 years, I couldn't say exactly, but have not bought one since leaving home which would have been well over 20 years ago.
