How often do you replace your hair dryer?

I average 8-12 months on every single hair dryer I have ever owned. I have purchased top of the line, and bottom of the barrel, and every thing in between. Yet nothing had lasted more than 12 months. I just had one burn out this week that was purchased Sept 26, 2016, according to my Amazon order history. I do use my hair dryer almost every single day, but it only takes 10 minutes at most to dry.

Tell me what I am doing wrong? I clean out the filter on a weekly basis to try to help also.

I have been in the same situation as you, once a year. I have thick hair and was blow drying every other day. They would always stop working middle of doing my hair drove me nuts. Now that I'm no longer working, I don't dry nearly as much and they seem to last a lot longer. I have bought all price ranges as well. I have had my Babybliss for about 2 years now, I love it. Think I paid $60ish on Amazon.
I feel your pain. 10 minutes is not that long, I more than double that.

Probabaly been through 5 or 6 in 20 years. Some lasted a LONG time, others died in a matter of months.

I wear my hairdryers OUT!!!!
I don't shampoo and condition as often as a used to, but I have to do a complete blow-out, on high, every single time.
My hair is think and can be wavy, frizzy, unruly, if i do not.

Most hairdryers, including some co-called high-end, are really just cheap disposable junk.

I finally invested in a truly COMMERCIAL hair-dryer.
The CROC compact 5000.
This thing ROCKS!!!!!
To bad this exact model is being discontinued.
I did recently have to replace mine, after a L O N G time, months and years of trusty service.
Not because it burned out, but because I actually wore it out!!! The wires started to break and short out, where they come out of the hairdryer. Just from sheer physically wearing the thing out.

I am thinking of ordering another one and putting it into the back of my closet.
Then, if something does eventually happen to this one I have another to get me thru for years.

I currently have RUSK hair dryer and it's been going strong for a couple of years but lately it has started slowing down a little when I turn it on. I've already bought a Babyliss as a replacement but will keep using the RUSK until it dies. I can't be without so much have a back up.

Mine last about 18 months. I blow dry my hair at least 4 days a week (unless I'm at WDW, then it goes in a ponytail wet) and it takes me about 10 minutes on high. I typically buy a Conair with a retractable cord and folding handle so it fits in my drawer. Mine just died Wednesday and my new one will deliver by 8pm tonight (thank you Amazon Prime!) I really don't mind spending that much money on a hair dryer every year and half, I'm not going to risk spending more and just having it die anyway.

I have one right now that is about 20 years old, it's in the guest bathroom and rarely gets used. The main one I have is about 13 years old, I go from short hair to long hair and only use the blow dryer when it's in the in between stages. The one before this one was about 10 years old and caught fire in my hands.

I too have a hair dryer that is 20 years plus and expect another 20 years. Is it because...
  • low heat setting
  • low air flow
  • short hair? thinning hair?

I know we had a few go out and had to replace it. I would rather research and find a good one. I do notice ours does not get as hot as it should. I have to blow my hair or it looks like one ball of frizz.

Mine is the one I bought when I was working in a salon- I bought it in 92. When I worked it was used more than now but I do use it almost daily more so in the colder months. And it depends how I am wearing my hair.

For blow-outs for waves, frizz, and manageability....
My super-charged CROC hair dryer, and the large round Revlon styling brush, that you can buy almost anywhere... are AMAZING.
People actually comment and compliment my hair... LIttle do they know what I am dealing with!!!!

Now, those Revlon brushes DO need replaced failry often.
I wear those things out.

Mine last about a year. I dry my hair every day, I have fine thin hair which has zero volume if I don't. I have to clean the filter every month or so otherwise it gets clogged and gets hot & wrecks the hairdryer. I don't know why the filter gets clogged....it has fuzz in it kinda like a dryer vent.

I'm guessing I've had the same hair dryer for about 45 years. I got it when I was in junior high school. For fun I Googled 1970s Schick hair dryer, and a picture of my hair dryer came up, this is what I have had. But as a guy, with short hair, it rarely got used. I think my mom bought it for me for Christmas just because she couldn't think of anything else to get me.

When it breaks. I blow dry my hair every day. My last hair dryer lasted 10 years. I was so sad they didn't make it anymore when I went to get another one.

I do like my current hair dryer.

I haven't owned a hair dryer since I was in college in the 1980s.

I would think that a basic inexpensive hair dryer should last longer than the year the OP has been experiencing.

I buy mine at WW for 19.99. Not , I've never kept track how often I have to buy maybe once a year. I would blow dry my hair every other day on high heat. My hair is thick and mid back. Last year and this year I just started wearing my hair naturally cury during the summer and until late Oct, No or when weather gets cold. I started doing this to save my hair from so much damage.
Back to your question...I replace once I start smelling burning smell or I see a spark-lol!

Well, I don't use a hairdryer much. But when I do, it's one I got as a gift in middle school. So....25 years or so?

I buy mine from my hairdresser ..I have a lot of hair and it takes quite a while to dry ..I used it maybe every other day and mine last approx 2 years.
