How often do you go to your local mall?

there's not much left at the two in our region. about the only time i go is if i've ordered something online from a brick and mortar location and it's either (1) too low to qualify for free shipping and i can pick it up for free there or (2) i got it shipped to me and need to return it (cuz it's an immediate vs. a protracted refund).

I love the mall and go there regularly at certain times of the year - mainly to walk if it's pouring rain or we're having wildfire smoke. I think it's sad to see it go away as a community gathering space. The walking community (mostly senior citizens and the stroller set) at the mall reminds me of sort of the European piazza.

Our mall has been dying for years, but a grocery store has gone in where Sears used to be and that is helping increase traffic.

We still have three department stores in our town, but their inventory is definitely shrinking, and they may not be there long.

Amazing how crowded it gets. Has some great jewelry boutiques. The Cartier there is always packed.
Oh yeah? I wouldn’t know. Most of the stores there are too rich for my blood. You’ll find me in the food court or relaxing on a couch in Restoration Hardware. lol.

I just don't get the open air mall concept. Okay, the 3 malls I frequented as a kid I remember were open air, but in the late 1960's they all enclosed the malls.
We have one open air mall near us, and it had a shoe story my wife liked so we went twice. Once when it was 105 degrees, and another time in the pouring rain. It was miserable.
Agreed.. Butthey are perceived as safer because teens don’t congregate and they have fewer stores.

Pretty much daily.

But I live in South-East Asia where there are a zillion malls and it's super-hot and rainy. So, most of my time in the mall is just cutting through to get to the light rail or grocery store or some such.

My local indoor mall is an hour away. I went for the first time in years a few weeks ago. The other bigger one it’s Christmas time 2021 and I only went because I wanted a pretzel bites from Wetzel pretzel

Our Mall here is still pretty popular so is quite alive. I go twice a week as a mall walker between 1.5 and 2 mile walk.

For shopping for myself-never really, but I don't go out shopping anywhere anymore. Do all of it online. My daughter works at a clothing store at our local mall, 3 - 5 days a week, and take her to/from work. So I am at the mall often, just not shopping. The mall stays very busy. Labor Day was crazy busy, so it seems to be thriving.

Only to return something I bought online. Several of the mall stores accept returns and it saves the postage. I would say 2-3 times a year. I don’t ever shop or go to a store I’m not returning an item to.

Depends on what you call "going". We go to WalMart and it's at the mall fairly frequently. But the mall itself is going through "shrinking" (as opposed to "growing") pains. Many of the stores that only had interior doors to them are closed, and only those that also had exterior doors are still there. Don't actually go to the other stores very much. In fact we went there to use a See's Candy gift card I had gotten and the See's Candy shop was no longer there. :(

I literally cannot remember the last time I have been to a mall (I have a couple to choose from and still do not go). Probably only a handful of times since Covid. Even before Covid I was not going very often. I dunno, I just find it to be a sad experience nowadays. It doesn't help when you have those pushy sales people out in the walkway chasing you around trying to peddle their products du jour.

When I was younger, I thought going to the mall was the bomb dot com... now I would rather shop online, go to a thrift store, or go to somewhere like TJ Maxx.

Teens-early 20s was all the time, almost weekly it seemed. Mainly went to the entertainment stores. Mid 20s-40s, rarely.

The change isn’t online ordering. Music, movies, and games became digital and streaming. Entertainment stores became obsolete. The generation that sent occasion cards is basically gone. Book stores are no longer in the mall as they moved to strip malls. Toy, Baby, & Home stores moved to discount retailers.

Strip malls became more abundant. They are more convenient and a time saver as I can hit up one store directly with parking in front of that store. The mall with parking in the boonies and going hiking through the mall that basically doesn’t serve our needs is no longer interesting and a time sucker.

I’ve seen malls becoming food halls. However, that is getting old pretty fast too. We don’t see the appeal especially when there are eateries saturated everywhere compared to when we grew up.

Several times a year. There are some stores that are in one or more of the malls, and don’t have standalone stores or locations in strip malls.
