How often do you get your carpets cleaned?

We're supposed to get carpets cleaned? Uh oh...

Yeah, well......

Like others, we bought a steam cleaner of our own. But we hardly used it. And, eventually, it just got old and broke. Now we rent one. Well, we've rented one twice. Probably going to do it again at the end of summer.

Looks like we do it every 5-6 years, no schedule. Just when we feel the color of the carpet has changed too much in the heavy traffic areas.

There is a local person that does my carpet and he's so reasonable. He does a better job than I would renting a machine, and he usually charges me $80 for about 4 rooms and the hallway. I call him about every 3 months.

Dang, hold on to him. That's an excellent price.

I'm clueless about such matters. I think DW hires someone to come in once a year. We rented one of those machines from the supermarket years ago, but it was more trouble than it was worth.

Tell me about it. He also lays down some butcher paper for us to walk on and doesn't leave much water, so it dries quickly.

We just did ours! We got an excellent deal on one for Black Friday and went through the whole house about a month ago. It works excellent and is so easy to use! I prefer doing the carpets myself instead of hiring, because I like to know what chemicals/products are being used on the carpet. I also really like vacuuming/shampooing, it's strangely relaxing...

The only difficult part is moving all the furniture, waiting for that part of the carpet to dry, then moving it back into place.

We do this as a living. There are great people who do an excellent job. My DH has been doing this for 30 years. Carpet cleaning is not easy. And a lot of people have a hard time understanding things about carpets. You can over saturate a carpet as well as furniture. It is hard work for sure.
