How often do you change jobs?

I worked my first job out of college for a year and got an offer I couldn't pass up. Worked that offer for 26 years before getting laid off. Found a new job that I have worked for a year and a half before once again getting an offer I can't pass up. I start a new job the beginning of June. I am not sure why but I am feeling guilty leaving my current job.

More often than I had intended to. Been out of grad school for 5 years now and I'm on my 4th job in this field. First job was a mistake and lesson learned, company taking advantage of a new grad. Second job was a temporary part time job until I found something better and more permanent. Third clinic was fantastic, absolutely loved working there, just hated where I lived. So after 2 years there I moved and left, had a little bit of guilt there. But I adore my current job and love where I live now, and fully intend on staying with this job as long as possible.

First “adult” job was 3 years, left because it was such a small company there was really no room for advancement. Second job was a little over 5 years. The only reason I left was because they closed our office of almost 200 employees. 3rd job I was only there for about 18 months and I was miserable. I’ve been at my current job for almost 7 years and I don’t see leaving any time soon. I’m sure I could make more money elsewhere but I really love what I do, the people I work for, the company in general and our benefits are great.

Not often: DH 23.5 years/Me 8 years. Currently we're taking an adult gap year aka mid-career break.

Dh and I have both had our current positions almost 7 years. He retired from his prior position after 25 years. I had mine for 16 years (part time job). I had my prior job to that one for 11 years. I left for a part-time job more suited to raising our children.

We had a recent dinner discussion with our sons and it seems that the younger professionals switch jobs pretty often for better pay and positions.

Us older generations have been ingrained with longevity, but I think times and loyalties have changed for both employers and employees.

I have been at my job for 28 years. Hopefully retire from there in 11 years. Only had three jobs in my life. A vegetable seed company when I was in high school., USMC and the one I have now. Also I’m guessing very few people can say this I have never put in for a job that I didn’t get. Hopefully I will retire from the job I have now and can always say this.

I've been at my current employer for 16 years, the past 7 years I have been a manager. I have reached my limit in how high I can go in the company. Its the only job I have ever had, so I want a new challenge in life.

On average, every 5-7 years. At my current job a little over 10 years and that's been my longest tenure. Hoping to retire from this job in about 5 years.

Jobs or employers? I started with my current employer over 30 years ago when I was a junior in college. I'm hoping to hold out until retirement. As far as jobs, I'm on my 6 job "title", and of course have been assigned to various shifts.

Grocery store in high school and college. Grabbed a couple evenings during college at a local to the girlfriend convenience store while working the other evenings at the grocery store. Went night shift after graduating college until I landed my first "real" job and still there 26 years later.

I have been with the same company since 1999, but I have changed departments a few times, sometimes willingly, sometimes not.

Often, LOL.
The longest I ever stayed on one job was about 12 years and that was for the side benefits. I’m a teach me, bore me and I’m gone kind of person.

18 years current job. If they don’t fire me I’ll retire there. 6 weeks vacation, pension, 401k, lots of extras. Why leave, lol.
I’m very similar - at the top of my career trajectory and earning power after 34 years in the industry - it took me 6 jobs, several bouts of unemployment and an 8 year professional hiatus as a housewife to get here. I’m 14 years with my current company and have another 12’ish until retirement. Where would I go? :confused3

Don’t. If you are at a place in life where advancement is still possible, it’s very reasonable for you to do so. Best of luck. :flower3:

I'm a teacher... I've been at the same school for 8 years - my entire career. I hope to be a "lifer" unless I decide to get out of education all together (unlikely).
