Years ago DH got paid monthly. This was before banks were open longer hours or direct deposit or snap a picture of check to deposit. Sometimes got paid on Monday, but didn't get to bank until Friday.

You young whippersnappers have it easy these days.

Now a days it's only SS. no pension.

I am bi-weekly
DH is bi-monthly (he used to be once a month)

This current way is fine with me. As long as DH is getting a paycheck (he makes way more than me) than I’m good with whenever he’s paid 🙂👍🏻

Before retirement 7 years ago, it was bi-weekly. Now with pensions and SS, it's monthly, but all over the month as to when the monies are deposited. Also the quarterly dividends show up in various amounts.

It took about 6 months to mentally get used to the changes, especially since SS didn't start for 5 years, but now we just keep a buffer in the account and all is good.

Pension and SS both are once a month. When I worked it was every other week. I'm fine with either way.

Up to 6x/day depending on my hustle.
Am I happy with the schedule? Sure. I’d prefer something with direct deposit but given the reimbursement I receive for services rendered, I’m loathe to complain.

Bi-weekly. Hubby and I have the same pay day (today!). Thankfully, the pay schedule is fine.

Social security, 3rd Wednesday of the month, no choice. Pension, 1st of the month, no choice. RMD's from qualified accounts, paid over several days, end of month, my choice. I'm fine with all three.

Every job I have had is biweekly. Most common frequency here.

Husband use to be bimonthly and it was a PIA. He worked shift work and depending on the number of days/shifts in that half of the month the pay would vary.
Probably different if you were salaried worker and it was divided evenly by 24.

If you had a consistent amount bi-monthly, you'd have a consistent amount every 2 weeks. My paycheck has been the same for years (barring bonuses and raises).

It's just the varying pay days that would get me. I like "1st and 15th". I set up all my early month bills to pay on the 1st and the later bills on the 15th. That wouldn't work when paydays are always different days of the month. We don't keep much overage in the checking account, it goes into high yield savings. I'd have to be doing bills weekly instead of once a month.

I'll have to be ready for a change though. Husband is retiring next summer. We will get his pension and VA disability checks on the 1st and who knows what the next job's pay schedule will be.

I’ve always been paid bi weekly (same as my husband but we were opposite weeks) however I switched positions at work early this year and my company pays salaried employees bi monthly (the 15th and last business day of the month) I’m still trying to get used to it.

I was telling my kids that years ago when my husband (now ex) got paid on Fridays, all the wives were sitting on the lawn outside talking waiting for the checks to be ready. Those men never saw their checks LOL To the younger folk on here, banks were only open until 3, 6 on Fridays so the wives would go to the bank to deposit, go grocery shopping, pay bills. It definitely wasn't a "let's go to the mall and buy new clothes Friday". Anyway, I worked for the state and got paid at the end of the month (sometimes the beginning). 160-168 hours worked. I preferred it since you could pay your bills and knew what was left. No juggling dates. Now the schedule is:
Pension-Toward the end of the month (cousin just told me hers posted today so mine will tomorrow) monthly
SS-3rd Wednesday (actually mine posts Tuesday) monthlly
IHSS (county-taking care of my daughter) I submit the hours on the last day of the month and the 15th. They pay us anywhere from 7-10 days later. So biweekly.

I’ve worked for the same company for over 30 years and we’ve been sold 3 times since I was hired. I’ve been paid bi-weekly, semi-monthly, back to bi-weekly and am now currently paid weekly. My husband has been paid weekly and bi-weekly through different employers.

Of those pay cycles, I hated semi-monthly. At that time, i was single, didn’t make a lot of money and I had way too many bills. I was not great at budgeting and I was always running short. Now today, it would not bother me.

So, about a year ago Kdonnel asked the same question. Let's compare:

DH & I used to get paid bi-weekly, but alternating weeks. Every Friday, someone's check was being direct deposited. Then both of our jobs switched to bi-monthly about the same time. It took a while to mentally adjust to seeing the bank balance fluctuate more with the new pay schedule.

Monthly, don't mind it as its easy to budget. Nearly all my bills are set to be paid around pay day. Its the most common in the UK to be paid monthly or 4 weekly.

Bi-weekly now but I've been bi-monthly, weekly, and monthly in the past. I really don't care how I get paid any more. The pay check goes into an account and I'm not using my most recent pay to cover any bills anyway. If I went to a wildly different pay structure I may have to change some timing at first to cover the automated movements I have but as long as the right amount gets there I'm good.

I find it quite strange that people are paid every two weeks, twice a month etc. Here it's the norm to be paid monthly especially if you are salaried. At least if you know what you're getting each month you know how skint you're going be each month after the bills!
 We DO know what we're getting each pay period...why wouldn't we? An annual salary, divided by however-many pay periods works the same as simply dividing it into 12. The amount is the amount, and it's the same amount every time. One of my semi-monthly (15th & 30th) paycheques is smaller than the other because different withholding items come off of it, but it's still a consistent number every time.

Monthly, and I hate it. The absolute worst is the 5-6 weeks between paychecks that happens in Dec-Jan. We get paid before the university winter break closure (~12/23). The next pay day is 1/31. I miss being bi-weekly.

My husband was hourly shift worker paid bi-monthly and his cheques varied widely. Especially end of the month.
He did not work a Monday- Friday shift.

So no he didn’t know how much each cheque would be. I would guess by counting the days. He got paid 1-15th than 16-end of the month.
It depended on how the days of the week would fall in the pay period. Plus he often worked stats so would get stat pay.
