Can any veteran cruisers let me know how often August cruises get disrupted/changed?

If I book a 3 night cruise as part of a 3 week holiday in August and plan to fly back to the UK on day we disembark (Aug 27th) am I taking a big risk. I would hate for the whole cruise to be delayed by a day or two due to bad weather and find that because we have international flights booked that couldn't be changed, we would not be able to do the cruise! :confused3

It all depends on luck. You are taking a risk when you sail during hurricane season. We have sailed 5 times always during hurricane season, and never had a problem until.........GASP.......Last September....We encountered hurricane Frances. It was no fun. The cruise was shortened from a 7 day to a 3 day or was it 4...I forget already. lol Didn't get to see castaway cay due to damage.

It just all depends. We are still cruising during hurricane season. You can get some great rates. We did have travel insurance through Disney and it did pay us back every penny we spent while stuck in our room at Disney.

We did make a good time out of it, but you have to plan your vacation during that time of year with hurricanes in mind.

Good luck planning and have a great cruise.

I'll echo the above. We've done 5 September cruises with no problems until Jeanne in 2004. I'd suggest travel insurance for any fall cruise as a "just in case." That said, we had 4 of 5 cruises with no problems at all.

we cruised on the second ever 7 day dcl cruise in aug 2000, and it turned into a magical mystery cruise. we went to cozumel, cc twice, and freeport for the afternoon. it turned out to be kind of fun.

we were also on the cruise with travis last sept. they will do everything they can possibly do to keep to the schedule, and historically most of the cruises have stuck to original itineraries.

Looks like we will be sailing on the same cruise...we are from the UK too. I look forward to reading the responses.... :wave2:

I was a little concerned but our CM friends convinced us that this would be a good time to sail! Hope they are right! They are sailing with us so I trust their judgement...
