How Not To Do Disney With A One Year Old - Update 4/17

Well, I am happy that Alex was so great for his 1st haircut. At least there were some shining moments among the sickness. :goodvibes Poor little guy! It is so miserable for everyone when your baby is sick, but especially so when on vacation and in WDW!

 OH NO!!!!

Yeah, we didn't have good luck with food. Or sickies

Thanks, me too! He sure is a trooper! Yeah it really is. Just wait till the next update. :sad2:

We've had sick kids at Disney, too. On our first trip our kids were 1 and 5 and both got ear infections. On the second trip my then 3 year old got tonsillitis on my b-day. We had really good Dr.s at the Centra Care clinic and both girls recovered quickly.

I hope your next trip goes better!

Ugh!!! How sucky that not one, but TWO of your trips were like that.

Thanks! I hope your next trip goes better too!

You started your report! :yay: I kept checking and checking and checking ... and nothing. All this time, all I had to do was not check it for you to update?! Kidding.

I'm all caught up now. First of all, I am SO SORRY that Alex got sick. I know how heartbreaking it is to have a sick baby and feel completely helpless; I can only imagine how you were feeling since you had to go through those emotions at WDW!

Hooray for the B-Agile! We only have 28 days 'til we get to use ours at the World. It looks like it's great for napping, LOL!

I LOVE the pictures of Alex after he woke up! Absolutely adorable! At least the haircut went well! I can only imagine how stressed out you were feeling! My niece had tummy troubles on ONE of the days we were all there, and I know how stressed out her mommy was feeling, so to have it for the length of the trip, :sad1:!!!

He is ADORABLE! Omigosh i can't stand it! too cute:love:can't wait to read more!:goodvibes

Signing on! Taking an 11 month old in Oct 2013, so I hope to learn from every TR I can, LOL! =)

Hi Carla!!! It's Kendel!!! Glad I found you here. Following your report even though I have heard it because I love looking at pics of your little man

Sorry again for the bad trip :sad1:

My son's first trip to WDW was when he was 17 months old. I refer to that trip as the $4,000 first hair cut because that seemed to be the only thing that went right that vacation! So you're not alone. Trip #2 went much better :wizard:

Oooh… I always worry when I read things like that, but I have low expectations for my YDD first trip, so I guess that helps, right? :confused3 Of course, my trip plans keep changing, so who knows what the final age for her will be!

I have a question. Do they provide those plastic table covers or did you bring those with you? We avoid plates when possible and I just wondered if I should be prepared.

Stinks that your LO was sick! I LOVE me some CHOA though! Did I mention I used to live in the ATL area, so I know all about them. GREAT healthcare system for kids! :lovestruc

Haha!! :P thbt!!

Thank you. Yeah it was definitely heart breaking. It totally sucked but I'm finally feeling less depressed about it.

Woohoo!!! I hope you love it!! It's a dream and we still use it locally. I'm in love with it. And so is DH.

haha thanks. His hair was a riot! Yeah any sickness, even if it lasts one day or the whole time is awful for parents worrying about their kiddos. Not fun at all. Especially when they can't talk to you and tell you what's wrong.

awww thank you :goodvibes

Welcome!! haha yeah gathering as much advice as you can is a good idea.

Yeah it does help to be prepared but don't expect that your trip will turn out that way too. I'm sure y'all will have a great time whenever you do end up going.

No they don't provide them. I got them at BRU before we left for Disney. They're great and I use them locally too.

Yeah CHOA is so so so wonderful! The nurse I spoke to was so nice and calming. She really helped a lot. I'm glad we live as close as we do to it so if we ever needed to take Alex there we could.

Day 6 - aka the good, the bad, the ugly

Today was EPCOT!! I love this park so very much. I don't remember what we did for breakfast. But we got to the park bright and early. We had a Photopass picture taken (they're gone now) and then headed straight for SE.

Here we are enjoying the ride
IMG_0186.jpg

IMG_0188.jpg

Alex really seemed to like that ride and was doing good so far that day so I was hopeful for a good day. Then Chris decided that he wanted to ride TT while I waited in like at the Character Spot. Well, they opened the doors early so I made it almost all the way through without Chris there.

He seemed to like Minnie the best

Daddy finally made it!!

IMG_0196.jpg

Then we walked around the big emporium store because mommy was in desperate need of some Tylenol (hmmmm this might be a bad sign). And once we came out on the other side we saw Baloo!!!! I have never seen him out before so I was excited. He was our first Vynalmation siggie since I forgot to take it through the Character Spot with me.

This is my favorite picture from the trip

Then we made it over to Finding Nemo
IMG_0204.jpg

IMG_0205.jpg

IMG_0208.jpg

Alex started getting cranky after that so we tried to get him to go to sleep in a quiet spot we found but that just wasn't working.
IMG_0209.jpg

So we decided to walk him around a bit. We saw Peter Pan on the way so I walked Alex around in circles while Chris went to get his autograph
IMG_0210.jpg

IMG_0215.jpg

We then decided to walk down into the World Showcase a bit so Alex could continue on with his nap. It was so empty since it wasn't open yet so it was nice.

IMG_0213.jpg

Chris was trying to get one of my friends to call the pay phone but she never did haha

Continued in next post

We then ran into Tigger and Pooh so we stopped to say hi to them again and get their autographs

Then once we reached America we were hungry so we stopped in the QS spot. They weren't open yet but we only had to wait a few min.

We did get to eat. We gave Alex some Mac N Cheese that he was happily chowing down until some got stuck in his throat and triggered his currently sensitive gag reflex so we had another vomiting episode. Ugh! We got it all cleaned up and Chris and I finished eating and we headed out. Thank God there wasn't a ton of people in there for that.

On the way out we ran into Goofy again

IMG_0228.jpg

After that we decided to head back to the resort for a break.

Here are a few pictures on the way out of the park

After having some down time in the room
IMG_0238.jpg

We had ADR's for dinner at Coral Reef so we headed back to EPCOT to eat our (what we thought) yummy dinner.

IMG_0245.jpg

I didn't take any pictures of our food but we both had steak. They brought Alex out a cup cake for his birthday
IMG_0247.jpg

And here is my dessert
IMG_0248.jpg

I don't think we rode any rides after that. We walked around a bit and then decided to leave. I was starting to feel dizzy anyways (ut oh)
IMG_0249.jpg

Night Night
IMG_0252.jpg

So.....we all fell asleep. And then I woke up to Chris hollaring my name in the bathroom. I thought I was dreaming at first. So I went in there to check on him and he was having a panic attack. Said he felt nauseous and bad stomach needed to come out the other way too. Ugh! So as I'm trying to calm him down and get him to breathe, I get dizzy and almost pass out. So I sat on the floor while I talked to him. He couldn't get control over his breathing so he had me call EMS. Chris went and laid on the bed while we waited on them to come. Good thing he did because while we were waiting I threw up. Once they arrived they check Chris, said everything looked fine to them. No temp or anything but he decided to go to the ER anyways. They also checked my temp since I had just thrown up and it was 103.5 or something crazy like that. I decided to stay at the resort with Alex. I called Becca and she came to my rescue. I thought I had the flu or something so I had her bring me some flu meds. She arrived at the resort around 1am. After she got there, we took my temp again, still the same, I took meds and told her I had to go to sleep. So she laid on the other bed while she waited for word from Chris. It was a nightmare!! I did wind up throwing up a few more times before she got to the resort too. Chris was convinced it was food poisoning but the hotel manager said if that was the case they'd have other calls about it from other rooms and they hadn't heard anything except from us. So I guess we got whatever Alex had, just way worse. Chris finally got back from the ER around 6am. Becca went and got his scripts filled and we made the decision to leave that day so we could get home and get to the doctor. I don't know how Chris did it but he drove us all the way to Tifton where his parents met us and drove us the rest of the way home. That was the longest drive home ever. Alex was good most of the way but he was whiny still. Every time he whined I tried to sooth him but it's so hard to take care of a baby when you can hardly keep your head up and eyes open.

Anyways, so there you have it. Our ONE good day turned really horrendous over night. I was so sad that we all got so sick and had to leave early but there were lots of good moments amongst the bad. We tried to make the best of it but once Chris and I got sick that was the end of the rope. I couldn't have done anything if we had stayed anyways.

How Not To Do Disney With A One Year Old. Ugh

:sad2:

I am so sorry that this is how your trip turned out. How short did you cut it? I have had some one get sick each trip almost and it isn't fun... we fly though so we have always had to just ride it out with the sick person just staying in the room. ds was the this last trip.. with projectile and both ends (sorry tmi) He spent most of the day in the room.... then a couple days later dh said he had it ( I never witnessed him throwing up though) trip before that it was my mom in the middle of the night... but i think that was dehydration and heat. time before that it was dh the night before we were checking out and it was like non stop and violent all night. i was so scared that one of the rest of us would come down with it while on the flight.

so.. i know how bad it sucks... but also can appreciate how there can be a lot of good moments despite it.

What a bad ending to a trip! I can't believe your husband was well enough to drive. I can understand the dizziness. I once had a really bad stomach virus and passed out twice within a few minutes and had to go the ER. You probably both were really dehydrated. At least you were able to get home the next day. Did you get any money refunded?

WOW, Epcot was so empty. I am glad you got to enjoy some of that and got some great pics of Alex with the characters.

The picture with Baloo is awesome.

That was such a good idea to get vinylmation signed

Such a shame you all ended up getting sick.

I am glad you all made it home safely

I hope getting it all written out makes you feel better

:goodvibes

Oh Jeez, I am so sorry!!:( What a disappointing way to end your trip. I hope after you got home, your stomachs settled down. Really how would you know if it was food poisoning or not? Maybe??

Oh, Carla, how awful. :( When I started reading the update, I was thinking to myself, "Well, that sounds like a nice day at Epcot, what could go wrong?" Then I got to the end! So so sorry that your trip had to end that way, especially after all of the planning and excitement. Hopefully whenever you take your re-do trip, it will be a MUCH better and more magical experience! Thanks for sharing, even though the last thing you probably wanted to do after a trip like that was share it again in a TR. It was nice to see that despite all of that, Alex had a few great moments in WDW!

such a crappy ending :( I'm really glad you have a friend like Becca that could come to your rescue. I was SHOCKED that Chris managed to drive (more than?) halfway home...yikes!

Hope your next trip is a MUCH, MUCH better experience!
