How much will you be spending on prom?

Anyone see Nina Garcia challenge Zack Posen about modern prom dress length on Project Runway recently? It was pretty great. According to Zack (the one that is actually a designer), long is still in.

My DD's dress is a hi/lo, the front is just under her knees, the back is a bit longer.

Please don't turn this thread into another fight. OP already admitted she didn't fully read the first thread before posting, she's a newbie here, give her some slack!

Are you sure you all are old enough to have kids going to Prom? IT sounds like a 4th grade fight going on here.
:rotfl2:
Take it off line folks! You are fighting over behavior in another thread?? And then you want to trash someone for not reading the entire thread when you started an entirely off topic rant here. :rotfl: Pot meet kettle LOL!

:confused3

I posted a bit of reasonable advice for the poster, regarding the "rules of the road" of Internet chat boards. I did not "trash" her, merely pointed out that reading the entire thread is a good thing to do if you are going to join in on it. My post was not nasty in any way. So I do not appreciate your inclusion of my post in your "Pot meet kettle" post.

And if the poster doesn't like being attacked, maybe she shouldn't have posted on this thread how people got "their undies in a bunch" in the other thread. If you don't want to be attacked, then don't attack others. Just sayin'.

I know it!! My thoughts exactly, and like a fool, they drew me in and I behaved just as badly!! I'm a 37 year old woman, how ridiculous to have to feel the need to defend myself!!
Now, can we get back to the original idea of this thread, which is prom cost...

Do prom pictures ever change?? It seems they have bern the exact same now, as they were when I went to prom. The same pose, ect :) at least here any ways.
Cost? What do they cost? I imagine they have packages to choose from.
I'd live ideas on different prom pictures... Poses ect.

I have had someone going to prom every year for the last 6 years and we have never bought the pictures. We always meet someplace with all of their friends and take lots of pictures there and then there is usually a photo booth at the prom and the kids gets lots of pictures taken there.

I am sure they still sell them, I just haven't seen anyones for years.

My DD's school sells them and they are insanely expensive. Her boyfriend just came over to our house before the prom and we took their picture in the back yard. I wouldn't even entertain the idea of paying that for pictures.

"The 4th grade defense of "he did it first" should NEVER be used by someone old enough to have kids going to a prom.

I love how some people get all up in arms about other people attacking or insulting others, but they think it's just fine for THEM to do it themselves. You have been just as bad the posters you are complaining about with comments like this :sad2:

I am making my dd's dress which is costing $35, found great shoes on clearance months ago for $6. Now we are going to have her make up and nails done so not sure cost there, and they haven't told us the cost of tickets yet. This is her first prom, she has special needs so she is going to go with her friends that have special needs too. I am excited for her and hope that all our kids have a great time making memories at their prom! :goodvibes

The fighting seemed to be over for a number of posts.

Thanks, though, for starting it up again. :stir:

My DD, saw a Disney gown in the PROM magazine that I picked up for her. She tried on a few dresses at the mall and then more at a specialty shop... then we went to another specialty shop and they had the dress she had seen in the magazine. It fit perfectly except for the hem. She looked beautiful in the dress. I had to say "yes to the dress" . She is my Disney girl!! Price $378. More than I would have spent for any dress that we came across but because it was the one she had picked out in the magazine and we had tried on our fair share of others before finding it, I couldn't resist. I am not usually one to splurge and with college financial aid packets arriving daily perhaps I shouldn't have, but my heart said go for it and my DH agreed!! :) Shoes from Famous Footwear with a coupon $30.... hair will depend on whether she wants updo or not and could run about $80... if she has makeup done another $50..... Party bus divided by 13 others $70.....I am hoping she decides not to get tips...too much to maintain and they ruin her nails... been there done that... so hoping for just a mani/pedi.... She is going solo so we will get her corsage..guessing $25.

Wish everyone a "magical" prom season!!

I think it's fine to spend a lot for Prom. It is only one night, but it is also one of the most memorable nights your daughter will have (senior prom at least). Don't we all remember at least something about our prom night?

the kids who came here were aware that along with no alcohol, no baby making activities was another rule.

Man why do you have to ruin a good time. I have no idea what my date wore to prom. I don't remember the dinner or the dance. But I DO remember the "baby making activities" after the dance.

Isn't "baby making activities" what prom is all about? Prom is like a total aphrodisiac for girls. In fact that was the entire plot of the move American Pie (4 friends wanted to "become men" before they graduated high school and they figured Prom night was their best chance of talking a girl into it).

Of course I don't want to scare any parents reading this. I'm sure YOUR daughter is a nice responsible young woman and you don't have to worry about that stuff. Kids today are more responsible than we were. I doubt any of them even think about physical contact until they are 21 years old. (I hope I made you feel better).

My DS was a "Prom Rep" at Men's Warehouse this fall for Homecoming. He was given business cards that had his ID# on them along with $40.00 off coupon on the otherside of the card. If he got 7 cards turned in he got his tux rental for free or $200.00 tword a suit. If he got 15 cards turned in he got both a free tux rental and a suit. He has a beautiful suit from Nordstrom but he wanted to wear something a bit more flashy and I told him he had to earn the tux rental. He was able to get a free tux rental with little effort, it was football season and he just passed the cards out to the team after practice.
$50.00 for dinner and $20.00 for a corsage.

Prom here is part of the Junior $100 class dues. If you don't pay you don't go either year. Last year DS got his tux for free and earned a 100 itunes gift card for free. The tux place gave kids $40 off cards when they ordered the tux. You give them to your friends. For every friend that comes in with your card you get a % off. He had some many friends use the place--they got $40 off and he earned all the other stuff. Party bus was $100 per person--his date paid for hers. Dinner $100. Flowers-$30. Bowtie for breakfast-$30--he used for Easter. He paid $260--he refused to let us help.

This year--party bus $75.00 per person--date is paying hers. Flowers-$30. Tux--free again. Dinner-the parents are hosting a dinner for all the kids on the bus--$25 per person = $50. Pictures are being taken at the dinner by a mom--no charge. Breakfast--$50 for shirt and bowtie. Total--$205 and he is refusing to let us help again. We offered to pay half, but he was like you guys do enough for me. Gotta love him!

While my daughter was trying the prom we bought, I saw a advertising flyer hanging on the wall in her dressing room for Disney dresses. I went out and asked the shop owner if they could get them. I went on my phone right away to find them. But, my daughter had already fallen in love with her dress that she had on. After trying on quite a few, I agreed this was the dress for her! Disney dresses seemed to cost anywhere from $350 on up. The non Disney dress we ended up buying, is a ball gown and was in the $600 range. So, seemed to be about the same as the Disney dresses.
But, any ways, we Love, love, love disney world! We go on a Disney vacation every year, so a Disney dress would of been perfect for her!

My daughters and i are already searching for just the right Disney dress for next year!
We have 3 daughters! So, we have several gowns to buy over the next few years :)
A few, will be Disney I'm quite sure :)
We aren't crazy for some of The disney dresses, and others are very pretty. my girls like more of a ball gown.
We were wishing there were shops with disney gowns ( prom and other) at Disney world ( preferable at our favorite resort of choice, Grand Floridian)
How fun that would be! LOL
