Dh will be 3 months out from knee replacement when we are thinking of going. We are just curious as to the amount of walking daily. Is it comparable to a day in the parks? Thanks!

I know this may seem a stupid question, but this would be our first cruise.

Not a stupid question! No, I don't think it's anywhere near a day in the parks but it is a large ship. There are lots of places to sit and relax as you're enjoying the ship. My husband is disabled but still walking on his own. He also has a weight issue. It is tiring and difficult for him at times but very doable and enjoyable. I would highly suggest that you study the deck plans when planning your stateroom location. Last cruise in '03 we were near an elevator and our room for our '06 cruise is also near an elevator. We didn't have the noise that you might expect and it was a huge help for him. Hope you decide to go! Good luck to you! :)

The great thing about a cruise is that you can do as much walking or as little as you want.

For example on deck 4 you can walk 3 times around the deck and that's a mile. Or you can relax in one of the comfy lounge chairs and watch others walk it!

On a more serious note there are a lot of stairs, but there are elevators forward, aft and mid-ship. The hallways can be long, but not unbearable. I would say the most walking is at Castaway Cay.

There are plenty of places to sit and relax onboard the ship so tell your DH to just take it at his own pace.

Enjoy your first cruise!

I agree tha the walking is no where near the parks. I am pregnant and the thing that got me was the stairs. Sometimes it felt silly to take the elevator up one or two levels, so I would take the stairs. By the the end of the day I would be warn out from it. By the end of the cruise I got smart and just started taking the elevators. I also agree that getting a stateroom close to one the elevators would reduce your walking. I plan to do that next time even though I won't be pregnant.

He may want to borrow a wheelchair for some of the time while on sea days.

I spraigned my ankle badly on a cruise and used a wheel chair - when I got well enough to walk some, what I found hard was the trek from stateroom to wherever you were going - the hallways are very long and sometimes where you're going is far from the elevator banks. Its a good deal of walking, but nothing like the parks.

You might want to take a look at floorplans - we were right off the aft elevators one floor down from the restaurants - so it was a hike to see the shows, but not a hike at all for meals! Now, if we'd been far forward it would have been a lot more walking to eat!
