I want a resort that wont require another mile walk leaving and returning lol. I have made reservations for Pop Century and was wondering how long of a walk from the 50's building lakeside to the food and buses ? What other resorts are there that are more compact that would be good ?

Pop Century is veryyyy big and very spread out, so you may have a bit of a walk. A good resort to try would be AS Sports, as it is smaller but still in the same price range.

Funny, I was going to say that being in the 50s shouldn't be too much if a walk. If course being in the 60s is the closest-to lobby, food courts, bus stops. I didn't think it was too spread out or bad at all. I hope to be headed back to Pop in 2011!

We like "preferred" 60's is not that bad from either side of building but of course facing pool would be closest to food court and then buses.:cool1: plus POP has best bus service as it makes no other stops. AS Movies is very small layout as is Music and Sports compared to POP.:surfweb:

Most of the Disney resorts are big and spread out. I stayed in the 50's at POP and didn't think it was too bad of a walk, but it does seem far at the end of the day when you have tired achy feet.

If you want less of a walk, then for any value resort you'll have to pay for a preferred room.

If you could go for a moderate, POFQ is amazingly compact after staying at values!

Is it as big as CS? I stayed at CS last time and the walking plus walking in the parks wore me out lol

I think more than anything its finding the best route. The first time I stayed at Pop the girl at the desk traced out a route on the map to our room from the main building. During an insomnia induced 4 30 am walk around the entire property, I discovered a much easier way (it included not following the crowds going through the building but instead going through a parking lot)

I disagree. We have stayed at POP 3 times and never had to walk more than 4 or 5 minutes to get from our room to the main building. (And I'm a slow walker.) The rooms that were further away were no more than a minute or 2 more. POP is a very well laid out resort. We stayed at ASMu once and our room there was noticably further from the main building and there were 2 buildings even further away than ours. We'll be going back to POP for the fourth time next fall.

Really, POP is pretty compact. I have stayed in 50's, bldg 2, third floor, all the way at the end of the 'wing' that is next to the parking lot. I don't think you can be any further from the food court and buses while at POP than I was. And it took less than 5 mins to make the walk to the main bldg.
My favorite area??? 60's, bldg 4, facing the lake. About 3 mins to the food court.

OK Here is the thing.

The question "How much walking?" tends to be a very subjective question. For some people a quarter mile (1320feet) is too much walking, and for others it is nothing at all.

So I am going to give you the facts and let you answer your own question.

The average human walks at a speed of 275 feet per Minute.
The buildings at POP are 360 feet long.

It will take most people 1Min 20 seconds to walk from one end of the building to the other.

The closest 50s building to the Main doors is 315 feet (1 Min 7 sec)
The furthest 50's building to the Main doors 970 feet (3min 30 sec)

From the Main doors to the Bus is another 260 feet (1Min)

So if a 4 and a half minute walk is too long for you, then Pop is not your resort.

For comparrison:

If you need to be closer to the Food and the Bus.

Allstar Music Calypso buildings are closer to the main hall (Within 400 feet) but the Country Fair buildings are 1354 feet away (Quarter Mile)

AllStar Sports Surfs up buildings are within 450 feet while the Homerun hotel can be over 960 feet away

Every AllStar Movies building is 500 to 900 feet away.

50's isn't even a walk....then again, I don't consider anything under a mile to be a walk when I'm at WDW.

Map is here.

I have to agree with the other posters...POP is not a big resort as compared to ones like POR and CBR. We always stay in the 60's preferred sections and its no more then a 3-5 minute walk from the room to the main building (thats if u are all the way in the back by hourglass lake). It is right out the back doors of the main building.

I'd agree that POP is not a big spread out resort, but pretty compact. We've have much longer walks at some of our deluxe resort stays than the the 50's at POP.:thumbsup2 I will say when staying at POP we prefer the 60's and 60 and would not want to be in the80's or 90's, but I know many who prefer those areas as well.

Happy Panning!:goodvibes

I'd have to say that after a long day at the parks, your feet are tired and it is a LONG walk no matter how long. You walked all the way from the park to the exit, to the bus stops (sometimes quite a walk) and then you might even have to stand on the bus and waiting in line while standing. Then walk from the bus to your building. This is a long time on your feet. Yes, it's only a 4 minute walk, but add in everything else...... I still like Pop anyway, but wish it was more compact.

If you have trouble walking at the end of the nights, maybe it's time to rent a car so you'll be ale to park right outside your building. Many do. We did but prefer using the buses to save about 30-45 minutes each way in travel time. We stay in the 50's and it usually only takes 5-7 minutes to get to our room on the top floor of bldg 2 or 3.:surfweb:

I thought Pop Century was actually on the tinier side! We happened to be in room 1447, either the 50s or 60s, I'm not sure. It was a super quick walk to the food court/store/busses/front desk/etc. In fact I think it may have been like, under 2 minutes! I'm serious, it was never a trek at all. We were at one end of the resort, and walked to the other end, and it was quite easy. It was nowhere near someplace like Caribbean Beach, which was a nightmare to walk when tired.

I'd have to say that after a long day at the parks, your feet are tired and it is a LONG walk no matter how long.

By your logic here anything that does not drop you off directly at your door (or in your bed) will be too far away.

I suggest that you have unreasonable expectations, especially if your room is on the 3rd floor :)

OK SERIOUSLY folks.

The walk from the Bus to the 50's rooms in POP is LESS than 1 TENTH of 1 mile. Most people walk further than that just making trips to the bathroom each day.

If that distance is too far for you, then maybe Disney is not really the Vacation for you.
