How much walking for getting around Pop Century ?

....don't think that any room in either the 50's or 70's bldg's is more than a 5 minute walk from the main hall.

....of course...I'm spoiled, since we stayed in the 60's Bldg 4 (Play-Doh) a little over a month ago..and were in Room 4111....100' feet from the pool...and a 1 minute walk to the main hall.

I guess all I was saying is add on all the other stuff and it feels like 10 miles. I would love to be dropped off at the door, but that is unrealistic. I know the last time we stayed at Pop we decided to stay at one of the moderates or the deluxe, to decrease the overall transit time (standing, waiting, walking etc....).

Dear OP,

I would suggest paying for a preffered room. It is not cost prohibitive and will guarantee you will be close to the lobby and bus stop.

There really is no sense is listening to subjective room location advice. Some folks always need to be snarky and give you such warm advice such as a disney vacation obvously isn't for you if you are concerned about walking distances. Whatever. Go with the preferred room location it shouldn't be that much more money and will give you peace of mind.

I apologize for being Snarky.

You are right, it really is all subjective. I can fully understand that people want to be as close as possible to the Resturant and the Buses.

I was simply trying to make the comparrison that the distance you walk in POP can be about 300 feet and the distance from the Boat Launch to the Castle in MK is over 1300 feet.

The point I am trying to make is that (In my opinion) POP is not a difficult resort to walk around, and that sometimes people have unrealistic expectations.

We have stayed at POP in the 80's, 60's and 50's.
We have also stayed at POFQ, CSR, AKL and Poly.

We do not find POP to be too much walking. From the 50's and 60's location, it was a 5-7 minute walk to the main building. The 80's were maybe 2 or 3 minutes longer.
Our favorite location was building 5, in the 60's section, facing the lake. It was very quiet, and just steps away from the main pool and a 5 minute walk to the food court. :)

POFQ is more compact so there is less walking vs. POP.
CSR is MUCH larger so there is a lot more walking vs. POP.

Thanks that helps to know. As long as its less walking the CSR lol. I think we will be fine:woohoo:

I agree about after walking all day it seems like 10 miles when you get to the resort :rotfl: I just wanted an idea of how large it was because you cant really tell by the photos. Except the one Epcotman posted that was great !

My last trip before Pop was at CBR, and we stayed in Jamaica, Bldg 42 (maybe?) and I felt like walking from there to Old Port Royale was LONG after going to the parks all day.

Fast forward to Pop in February 2009 - In Bldg 10 (70s) I thought that this resort was MUCH smaller and much easier to get around, even at the end of tired days. Very quick walks to the bus stop & Classic Hall.

Maybe you can double-check my calculations? By the way, I don't think you're being snarky at ALL!

Using a key, I estimate it's about 1,500 feet from the farthest 'corner' of Pop (90's) to the diagonally opposite 'corner' (50's building 2) - remembering that, while your individual building measurements are accurate, the buildings do overlap :). Also, this is straight feet, not walkway feet. I also estimate the center of Classic Hall is about equidistant from both these points - about 750 feet from the lobby to either far corner.

What do you think?

I still like Pop anyway, but wish it was more compact.
I'm not sure how much more compact it could be, without being all one building. Even the few WDW resorts that are single buildings are frequently long or large buildings that require a lot of walking from the lobby (the sole parking/Disney transport access) to one's room.

We've stayed at Pop several times. The 50's were not too far away from the food court and bus stop, but I hope I will never be put in the 90's again.

We stayed at Pop twice this year and were put in the 80s or 90s. I called it East Tampa. We have stayed at All Stars and think the walks there are way shorter. We do not pay for preferred figuring we walk miles a day in the parks, so a little more is okay at the resort. At Pop it was not a little more but a ton.
The All Stars have less rooms than Pop and are not as spread out. Pop does a good job with the layout and probably needs the spacing for all the huge icons it has which are really cool.
