How Much Vacation Do You Get?

Dh gets 6 weeks. He can never take them all. Seems silly that the higher up you go, the more vacation time you get, and the less you can actually take.

I am a teacher, my vacation days are set. I do get 10 sick days and 2 personal days per year, which rolls over. However, if you take more than 2-3 sick days in a row you need a doctor's note when you come back or they dock your pay. My last district didn't do this. Seems silly to have to go see a doctor when you have something like the flu that is contagious and you know will go away in a few days.
 
5 week. Lucky to get to take 3 weeks. I almost aways have the full 10 weeks max accrual on the books.

4 sick days. Though under California law we accrue 6 days/ year. So the other 2 days just sit there.

10 holidays. We don't get Columbus Day. Friday after Thanksgiving, is technically a work day but no one comes in. We do get Christmas Eve.
 
I get simultaneously as much as I want and none at all.

I'm self-employed, so I can take off the next six months if I want to. The downside is, I won't make any money for the next six months. Taking a vacation (or even a day off) involves doing extra work before and after so I don't lose out too much money for the time I missed.


Same here....love the flexibility, but sometimes miss actual paid time off. Truth is though I love flexibility more than benefits, especially as a mom to young kids. Also, in my field, you can make more self employed in private practice or a group private practice than in other settings.

DH is a teacher. He gets the usual school vacation weeks plus 2 personal days per year and the summer obviously. He has a good amount of sick time that carries over year to year, but can't use it for vacation.

5 weeks (200 hours) plus 8 paid holidays, I can carry 100 into each calendar year. I was outsourced into my company currently and they counted my years for vacation so I get the max (10+ years).

In late 2019 I will reach my 7 year anniversary with my current company, at that point I am eligible for what's called a Long Term Service Award or Sabbatical.

This means I get 4 weeks, one of which has to be a service oriented week, then the rest is rest and relaxation.

That means in 2020 I could technically roll 80 hours, take those two weeks, add my 5 weeks for the year and the 4 weeks of my LTSA to make a grand total of 11 weeks off that year, plus my 8 holidays.

Then I get another LTSA at 13 years (2026- another 4 weeks), then a 6 week LTSA at 19 and 25 years. I hope to heck I can retire before the 19 year!
 
15 days vacation, 15 days sick leave and 13 paid holidays (many of which are between xmas and New Years).

I wish we got all our days without the designation between sick and vaca. Even taking mental health days I roll a lot of sick time. I donate a week of sick to the sick pool each year.

When I hit 10 years I start building more and more to a max 5 weeks of each. At least by then DS will be out of house and maybe a 2 week vaca won't be a crazy idea.

DH gets 5 weeks (no vaca/sick breakout) and 8 paid holidays and one floating holiday taken whenever.

He tries to save at least a week for end of year so he can be home between xmas and Christmas since DS and I are already
Off.
 
Paid? Zero. Yes, I knew it when I took the job and I am okay with it. Unpaid, I get all school holidays, including Thanksgiving, Christmas and Spring break off. I can take off as much as I want during the summer (school employee, work year round) as long as at least one person is in the office that day. I can take off as I need to during the school year for illness (myself or my kids) or appts, and I did take the two days before Thanksgiving break off this past year for a vacation. I try not to take off much during the school year unless I am sick, as there is usually no one to fill in for me and the administrator has to do it.

My husband earns PTO time by the amount of hours he works. Because of his work schedule (two 24-hour shifts per week), he accrues time quickly and doesn't have to use as much. The way his rotation works, he gets 5 days off in a row twice a month.
 
Our vacation days, sick days and holidays are put in one PTO account. The holidays are automatically in there but the vacation and sick days are accrued per pay period. I was getting 7 weeks a year total between all of it but I just reached my 15 year milestone so I will be getting more, just not sure how much at this point.
 
None...I'm a stay at home mom to special needs kids. But my husband kindly lets me off the hook for about a week every year so I can take a trip solo or with friends.

My husband "gets" 30 days per year (military). He actually is able to take about 7-10 days off per year, if he's lucky. He has perpetually had 30 days of leave on the books for over 10 years. Leave over 30 days is "take it or lose it" if it's not used by Sept 30 every year. He has actually lost leave in the past because of not being able to take days off. Luckily, the 30 days gets paid out upon separation, so it's not all bad.
 
Being our own business there is no vacation, we don't get paid if we don't work.
 
I work at a private special ed school. We get all
Schools breaks paid plus 8 pto days to use during the school
Year

Summer is unpaid unless U opt to work the 6 week summer program. If so you get 2 additional days to use in the summer
 
Well, as many as I can afford, as they're unpaid. I do take a LOT of time off, really only working half time over the course of a year.
 
My company is moving to a "discretionary time off" system which has no limits but is subject to manager approval. We will see in practice what that means. We used to have a system based on years of service. I was at 25 days, but I only ever took that much one year.

This year I'm probably going to use about 12 - 15.

Plus we have 8 paid holidays (I think that's the right number).

4 weeks annual leave per year plus 11 public holidays (kinda 12 sometimes - we have a Tuesday public holiday and usually my boss lets us take the Monday too) and 10 personal days.

Unfortunately we're closed for a really long time over Christmas/New Year (which is summer here). Last year we were required to use 13 days of annual leave (out of 20). It's annoying because that's not when I want to travel or when my family can travel, although my work is okay with my taking extra unpaid leave.
 
I get 12 days of vacation and 12 days of sick leave. It is not enough time off. I have yet to use a sick day and I wish I could convert it to vacation. I got 5-6 weeks at my previous job and it was nice being able to take a day here or there plus longer trips and still have enough for Christmas break.
 
Almost 4 weeks annual leave plus 13 days of sick leave. Both accrue by hours/pay period, of which there are 26 in the year. I'm at a point now that I'm always scrambling to use my annual leave before it hits the use-or-lose point. We can keep a hefty balance on the books, but anything over that disappears at the start of the new year. There's no limit to sick leave we can bank; it counts toward retirement if unused.
 
5 weeks of vacation (after 25 years of service) and I take every single day. We also get 8 sick days of which 2 can be used for personal days and I usually take one or two of these per year.
 
6 weeks of PTO -- all holidays, vacation days and sick time rolled into one. Been with the company three years, so that number goes up the longer I stay.
 
I'm in education, so I get a ton of time off.
Summer is unpaid, but the Jewish holidays, teachers convention, Thanksgiving and the day after, the week for Christmas, MLK, 2 days in February, the week for spring break,Memorial Day, plus any unused snow days are all paid time off.

That said, you can't pick your time off, so no going away in less traveled times which is a downer sometimes, but allll that time off makes up for it.
Other than those days, I get 3 personal days a year.
