Does anyone know how much room there is to negotiate on a new car under the invoice price? We are looking at a 2014 Town & Country and it says the eprice is $33,560. I dont know if getting under 30k is reasonable.

I am not sure of invoice, been trying to look myself. I have been looking at dealerships in my area(kc) take a look at the website for stateline dodge Kansas City. These are the lowest prices I have found, including ebay. They may help you get an idea of where the dealer may go. I would see if you can find a 2013 that is still new. The one I want has 2 miles and is listed at 26,999

I have no idea how much it will cost you because the costs will never stop with that car !

Giving a friendly fair warning, do not purchase that car.

We were so in love with ours when we drove it off the lot and it has been a non stop money pit ever since, even when it was under warranty.

just walk away

I have had luck buying Toyota cars/trucks, see if you can do this with Chrysler. Log onto the dealers website and search their inventory to find the car you are looking for. Once found there should be a contact us button or a name your price. With the contact button I have received low ball offers right away and then I go to other dealers sites and try to beat that price. Believe me this works. We have bought a car and truck this way and there was no surprises at the dealership once we agreed on the price over email. Just think no more haggling at the dealership and waiting for them to see their manager for the best price. Also I understand that the online managers do not sell by commission, they just have a sales quota to hit each month so they are very easy to negotiate with.
Good luck.

Shanna, what year was yours? We had a 2009 that was horrible. Currently have a 2013 and have had no issues at all. In my experience, the first year of the new model had a lot if problems but they seem to have worked it out. This is our 4th Chrysler minivan.

Are you talking about getting it under invoice, or under the price on the sticker on the window?
If you are talking about the sticker on the window the MSRP (manufacturers suggested retail price), yes, you should get it for a lot less than that. Thousands less.

If you are talking INVOICE, hard to say. Best thing to do is to get a print out of the wholesale price from Consumer Reports. That is the price the dealer will have paid for it AFTER selling it. They get 3 or 4 % of the INVOICE price back from the manufacturer when they actually sell it. And sometimes, there are other cash kick backs or incentives.

A dealer can sell a vehicle for less than MSRP, and less than DEALER INVOICE, and still make a profit, as long as the price you pay is above the WHOLESALE price.

I guess the sticker on the window. I dont know how to see the invoice.

We currently have a 2008 t&c with 79k miles and honestly I have replaced the brakes 3 times and they are squeeling and grinding again. We also had a issue with a line to run the heat back to the back 2nd row and also an issue the power windows grinding but only in the summer.

I had a Chrysler. I hated it. That being said, according to everything I have read, the newer models are excellent. They rate higher on edmunds than the sienna. And for us it is either a van or a SUV. We need something as we currently have a Pacifica that has NO cargo space and is making me crazy. When I saw they were asking only 27000 with 2 miles on it, it has really helped away my decision.

Just google it. Invoice appears to be about $2000 or so below MSRP. It would depend on the specs, etc. I would almost bet you can find a dealer who will sell it at 30,000. It may be a matter of visiting several and walking away from them once or twice. 3000 isn't much, especially if you have your own financing.

Thanks, I tried this with 2 dealers and the 1st one that I was talking about in this email sent me a quote in email already for $30,589 and I chose a more expensive van that was $34,555. Almost 4k with just an email. Curious if they can come down more from there though.

Geez, I would hope so. 9months ago I bought a brand new Honda Odyssey for much less than $30k.

MY husband and I haven't had a lot of luck in lowering the sticker price in the past. However, we've had great luck about them finding extra cash rebates on top of the current ones they advertise, or getting more for a trade in than they originally offered. MY best advice is to shop around!!!

Um yeah, but what was the sticker price? Van prices vary a LOT based on options.

Usually the internet department price is actually their lowest price and the can't negotiate any further. Go to edmunds.com and price out the car. That site will give you the invoice price. Chrysler dealer holdback is 3%, so anoint another $1,000. The price you were quoted seems to be even lower than that, so it's probably a great price. Be sure to search for any other rebates available for the model.

We just bought a new truck through our local dealer using Costco. Our friend is the sales manager at the dealership and he said that is the lowest price! We bought way below invoice after rebates etc and are getting a $500 Costco cash card too!

On another note we bought a brand new Chrysler mini van in 2000 (14 miles on it) and it had a bad engine from the factory. They were less than stellar to deal with and we ended up getting an attorney to get rid of it. I personally would never purchase from them again but their are horror stories with all brands. Your mileage may vary!

Have they really improved that much? I know the old Town & Country vans were a piece of junk. I rented one once and wouldn't have taken the thing if they gave it to me. I think the Chrysler dealers make zero profit on selling the cars because they know they will make it all back in the service department. If you do decide to buy the car I would highly recommend buying an extended service warranty.

I guess I wonder why you'd buy another if your current one is giving you such problems.

We have a 2006 with 99k miles and a check engine light that will not stay off. Luckily last year it went off in time for my inspection. I don't know if I will be this lucky this year. It says that its the catalytic converter, but the mechanic assures me it is fine. We've changed both oxygen sensors. Light goes off, comes back on. Van eats through brakes (I think we are on our 6th or 7th change, lost count) and, like yours, squeals with every stop...so embarrassing. Mechanic assures me the brakes are fine despite the noise. Our one slider will not automatically unlock anymore. Dealer says that is a $450 fix so we just do it manually. The other slider doesn't always close automatically. We've repaired numerous things on this one. While I'm sure they have made improvements to their vans from then to now, this isn't a chance I'm willing to take again.

We just purchased the Honda Odyssey Touring Elite last month. We went thru cars.com to get quotes from several dealerships in our area. After the initial quote, I dealt directly with 3 of the local Honda dealerships internet sales dept and got the price down from there. The sticker price for our van was around $46,000 and we drove out (all taxes, fees, etc) for $44,000. Honda doesn't make many of the Elites, so the dealerships don't want to deal too much on this model. If you wanted to buy a lower model, they were easily taking thousands of dollars off invoice price.

My advice is to get the first quote and then deal directly with several dealerships to get the rock bottom price.

If you are a USAA member, they have a car buying feature that will give you a USAA price and the locations that will honor it. It also has a link to Truecar.com that gives you the fair price along with good and great prices in your area. We negotiated with this in hand on a Honda Pilot this year. I think the MSRP was around $44,000 for a 2013. We got it down around $8000. But we did buy a demo with a few thousand miles on it. I highly recommend USAA pricing and Truecar. We even walked away, then called and said we would come back and sign if they added remote start and they did.
