How much to pay babysitter?

I wouldn't pay her less than 10$ an hour, and if you're gone until the half hour, I'd round up. That's the average rate of pay.

I got $2 an hour when I was a teen (30 years ago), and $6 twenty years ago, and pay $10 now.

I would expect to pay A LOT less if someone was watching my child, along with other children, in her own home. In a daycare situation, it's usually cheaper to drop off at a home than have a sitter come to your home to watch just your children.

I find that incredible...maybe I'm just out of touch with reality. There's no way I would pay some teenager $80 just to sit in my house and make sure my kids don't light the place on fire. For that money, I expect her to teach them French or something

I paid $7-8 an hour for 1 kid, $10 for 2 kids, and $12-13 for 3 kids during awake hours. I also round up the hour and pay to the nearest $5. If any of the kids were problematic, I give more. During sleep time, I pay $10/hour for all 3.

wow this seems like a lot.
Here in alberta the minimum wage is over $8 a hour almost 9 i think and the going rate for babysitter by the hour per child is usually $7 and for fulltime day care it is about $680 a month. There is a website here in canada and it breaks down what to pay depending on experience and children, not sure if there is one there.
I personally think that they should not get more for looking after a child then the minimum wage, but that is my opinion.

I pay my son $5 an hour to watch his sis-9. He loves it. He gets an extra bonus if he is extra nice or does something special for her.

My son pays 10 an hour for a babysitter for evenings out. Two boys 5 and 7. Some one on here said they pay 55 dollars a day for daycare, for one child. How do people afford to go to work. by the way, when I was babysitting, I made 50 cents an hour from the rich people, other wise it was 25 cents. We always wanted to babysit on New Years Eve, because we made $5.00!

After reading this, I guess it's not so outrageous. I do keep her occupied, we color, go shopping, play games, bake, etc. I don't just plop her in front of Spongebob. We usually have that running in the background though.

I was approached by a friend's husband who works with a lady looking for full-time childcare for an infant. I am clueless on what to charge for that. I remember being a new mom and needing to work but finding affordable childcare is hard to come by. I did hear from her, she wants to wait a bit, her mom will watch for a few months. I totally understand that, nothing like special grandma time for baby and hopefully affordable childcare for her.

When my boys were little, I used to pay the minimum wage (rounded to the next dollar) and an additional $2 per child. We always rounded up at the end of the night. Good friends always told us to pay a babysitter well, if you do that they will be more than happy to sit for you. So far we've been blessed when we needed sitters, thankfully my boys are old enough to be on their own now.

DS's two babysitters (daycare ladies) just charge me by the week and have set prices if its an overnight or just a few hours. So...I'm no good there.

However, in the past when I would have a babysitter come to my house or if someone would only watch him in their home while I went out I paid $10 an hour. I'm trusting this person with my child's life, I think they deserve a little more than min. wage But that's just me!
