How Much to Build a Ship??

I just Googled this and can't really find anything...We were wondering if anyone would have a good ballpark number of how much it costs to build Fantasy or any other large cruise ship?? I can't even imagine how expensive that would be....

In February of last year the Orlando Sentinel reported that the "Dream and Fantasy will cost a combined 1.8 billion."

Ouch!!! I think I paid for most of it...

I believe the order to build the Dream and Fantsasy was 1.8 billion.

The hope is (remember from some business report I saw) that with the 4 ships operating DCL can achieve 1 billion in revenues per year. Not a bad investment, eh?

That is revenue, not profit. Operating costs for the cruise line have to be very expensive.

When the Dream was put into service the contract was reported to be 1.6 Billion for both vessels. Now that was biulding costs, not including outfitting the ships with stores, furniture, hotel services stuff., so when all said and done 1.8 billion is just right!

True but the margin must be pretty good for Disney stock to be posting double digit returns and for them to invest in such an expansion. I know I have personally contributed to their bottom line with my addiction to concierge cruising (2-3 per year) recently

While on the Magic last month we were told that the new ships were $1 billion each--pretty consistent with the above reports. And each ship was about the same price as the Aulani resort.

Dream and Fantasy are rumored to have ended up costing somewhere in the neighborhood of $1.8B. Dream's costs are rumored to be closer to $1B with the Fantasy costing slightly less. This is because any specialized tooling and design modifications were built/made during the Dream build and were ready for use once the Fantasy build began. RCI's Oasis OTS & Allure OTS are rumored to have cost at least $2.6B.
