How much 'teasing' goes on at 50's Prime Time?

I'm pretty sure my husband and I can handle a little bit of teasing from our waitress...not fond of being a 'sensitive Susie'...especially since heckling is a part of the theming of the restaurant.
However, i'm a little bit concerned that we will not like the teasing if it's done way too much. We usually like the waiter/waitress to take our orders, bring food, fill drinks, etc. We're super low maintenance diners!
Don't want to ruin the fun by requesting not to be bothered...but i'm considering asking if everyone says it's excessive.

The food looks delicious, with great reviews!

How much teasing really goes on?

Thanks!

I wouldn't call it excessive at all. Its all in good fun and the servers in my experience are very good at reading their guests. They'll know right away if they need to reel it in or stop completely. DH and I deliberately put our elbows on the table and he'll put his hat back on just to let them know that we're all set for the fun and games.

Agree with pp it's all in good humor and not excessive. More like a pestering Mom than an annoying cousin who won't shut up ; ). Just sit back and enjoy, they will read your demeanor and give or take appropriately.

It might depend on who you get. We didn't get any attention, in fact barely any service when we went. No one in our room seemed to really get any attention in fact.

Some of our best dining moments have taken place at Primetime! Yes, the staff is excellent at reading their customers and my group ALWAYS gets harassed!
Our server texted one of our real Moms (on our phone) to complain that our texting at the table was really annoying! Hysterical!
Another adult guest accidentally broke a glass and every diner in the vicinity erupted in shrieks of "MOM! MOOOOM! THEY BROKE THE GLASS!!" Servers came running from every direction! :rotfl2:
I was going to skip this restaurant next month but I changed my mind and reserved it!

Have a blast!

I think it depends on the server.

We went over 10 yrs ago with my parents, my dh (he was my boyfriend at the time) my brother abd his girlfriend at the time. I don't remember that much teasing but my brothers girlfriend got quite upset and we had to remind her that it wasn't personal.

We went again in 2012 and our "cousin" teased my dad a lot, but was nice to the rest of us.

Our trip in jan was fine. Our waitress have us a game to play and we got pretty competitive. She also kinda "broke the 3rd wall" or whatever that saying is abd spoke about her background, how long she was a cm, etc

Prime time is a family fav of ours and I highly recommend!!!

Lol :lmao:

We've only eaten there once and I had to stand up and sing the Mickey Mouse Club song :rotfl2: I'm surprised I didn't clear out the entire restaurant. Eventually they had others stand up and sing so I wasn't the only doofus up there. It was all in good fun :happytv:

They also do much less teasing during lunch than during dinner- servers are really good at knowing who wants to be teased and who does not!

Honestly, had I not known that the teasing was a thing from reading this board, I wouldn't have even noticed it. I think I would have thought that the server was just playing the role of a 50s person. I thought it was cute and fun and I can't wait to take my husband there next month...I think he's going to be all over it!

Not excessive when we went. I was worried because DS has autism(aspergers), so he doesn't "get" joking. We had a great waitress who only gave my kids a hard time for putting their elbows on the table, and dh for not eating all his veggies. But he made it pretty clear that he was not going to eat them either way and she backed down. It was fun.

I loved it! However, I have heard some awkward horror stories on another disney board - won't say the name because I'm not sure that's allowed but there are always a few who don't appreciate humor or a potentially awkward moment where the humor goes awry.

What I can remember is a waiter who thought someone's insulin pump was some kind of gameboy video game gizmo and took it away from the child! So, yeah, I'm sure incidents like that are very, very rare - It's probably not a good idea for a waiter to use the old teacher routine where they say "You'll get it back after class (dinner)" with a child's insulin pump. Or really with any item belonging to a guest. So, yeah, that was one humorous stunt gone awry. I made sure to keep my cell phone in my pocket after reading that though.

Pretty much this. If you don't give them reason to tease (don't put your elbows on the table, don't talk with your mouth full or chew with your mouth open, don't text (new one since I was there last!!), and so forth), it'll be much less.

When we went one year during Christmas break, I'd been super sick the day before but was doing ok that day. I stuck with a salad, and didn't push to finish. Our server started to tease me but my sister stuck up for me and said "She was REALLY sick yesterday" and our server thought, looked at my dish, and said "for being sick, you did a good job!" and gave me a clean plate sticker. :)

We have the same issue with our oldest ds, we decided to skip the experience last trip. Maybe we'll give it a try next time. Ds can be coached through it, but I figured we'd all be exhausted and didn't want to deal with the added stress.

Thanks for the tip!

We love the experience at the Prime Time Cafe and do things as other posters have said to make sure we get the interaction from our "cousin" (wait staff). We had one last time ask us what colour the soap was in the restroom just to make sure we did indeed wash our hands before our meal.

And, we love getting the 'Clean Plate Club' sticker and wear it throughout the rest of that day. It's fun to have other CM's give us high fives after they saw the sticker. Very cool spot to eat and one of our favourites for sure.

I can't speak to 50s PT but the same type of thing goes on at WCC. As two adults, we are NOT into the heckling/antics, and have eaten at WCC three times now. Each time the server tones it down a lot for us, and it's never been annoying or embarassing. Enough that we get the idea of the place, but not too much where we're running out of the place. I'd suspect 50s PT is in the same vein.

I'd consider myself pretty quiet in public. I wouldn't say I'm shy, but I'd rather not have the attention on me. I've been told I come off as a "Don Draper" type - maybe it's because I'm in advertising.. but apparently personality-wise and introvert-wise, I'm a bit like him (not the cheating stuff haha)

Our server was a really good time - the server had some fun with my dad, pulling the "we understand each other because we're old" card. He would hit my dad with "could you believe these kids, cousin?" etc.

My sister is a teacher, and she's pretty damn tough. They had a fun time - he would say things to her and she would go right back at him. He liked her "spunk."

I don't remember him bothering my mom much, but he saw that I was quiet and just taking it in and saw it as a challenge, I think. He tried a few different ploys and when he saw I didn't want to be bothered, he laid off. BUT, then this happened -

I noticed we would not be able to make our FP+, so I looked to change it on the MDE app. Boom, he comes out of the kitchen and he had me. He thought I was texting. He "yelled" at me for texting to which I joked "well mom's taking so long to cook that we're gonna miss our FP+ for Tower of Terror." I knew what was coming next from reading reviews, so I figured I'd have fun with it. He made me stand in the corner and repeat "I will not text at the table."

It was all in good fun, and while I hated the attention, it was a good laugh.

I used to love this place years ago, the wait staff was great and played the role of your "annoying" cousin. It seems like now alot of the staff doesn't really partake or goes to the other extreme and overdoes it. Last time I went I ordered a beer and the waiter wouldn't give it to me until I ate my salad. I actually had to walk over to the bar and bring it to my table after talking to the manager. I prefer Sci-Fi alot more than this place nowadays.

I'm easy going and enjoy having fun but I didn't enjoy it at all!
The Cousin we had was from another country (must have been the Old Country) and I could barely understand her.

Plus, when they called us to sit at our table (we are a party of 3) they also called a Party of 4 (cougar type) women who were celebrating, sat us next to them (unconnected booth across from each other by about 18") and they acted like we were all together and should play along with strangers. I was so annoying and it was hard to eat and enjoy lunch. Never again.

We've had 3 disappointing experiences with wait staff who were clearly there to only take orders and serve food. Our latest experience was with a waiter who told us he had just been rotated there from California Grill. Even my joking that the atmosphere here must have been a bit of culture shock didn't even get a smile. We don't like the food enough to go there without the added fun so we will probably not try again. That said, a lot of others in the room were having fun so its certainly worth a try.

Our server didn't really joke with us at all, but did send another cousin over to see my hair. She was fun but again no one ended up razzing us at all. We are pretty easy going, fun people and enjoyed the food.
