how much sushi is normal to order?

IMHO yep, that's a lot of sushi. Doesn't matter to me though as I don't really notice or count what others are eating. Personally I'd be more concerned with how much it was costing than the amount of food. LOL How much does it cost for that many rolls? Oh my!
 
Besides the couple of pieces of shrimp you're getting, there's no protein in that meal. No wonder you need to eat so much.
 
I don't usually have sushi for dinner, just as a snack. Too much rice & carbs compared to the ratio of fish in each roll. I usually have about 9-12 pieces for a snack. I could see that if I wanted sushi only for dinner (with nothing else,) I might get another 6 pieces. :scratchin

Seriously, though, I've seen college age people who could eat anything, in any quantity, and never gain an ounce. I'd think that OP is getting a LOT of sushi -- depending on the size of the rolls of course -- but I recall a young guy I once knew whose standard order was a large Pizza Hut pan pizza (they called 'em thick crust back then) with double pepperoni and extra cheese. After he ate that, he'd stop on the way home to pick up a snack. This guy was about 5'8 and about 150 pounds max.

And no, it wasn't me!
 
We usually order 3 rolls for the 2 of us, and we also get a salad- so, about 1 1/2 rolls each. I find sushi very filling. Almost every time I see the rolls coming to the table, I think, "That's not gonna be enough to eat..." and by the time we are down to 2 or 3 pieces left on the plate, I am making myself finish, I am so full.
 
I usually eat 3-4 rolls and I'm stuffed at the end. But I'm also one of the people who order nothing else. No soup, salad or dessert with it.

I've never eaten sushi, but the restaurant that I goes to that serves it charges for unfinished plates. Is that normal?

I'm trying to understand this question. Are you saying that if you order something but don't finish it you should be charged less? So if I order a steak and can only eat half I can ask for half of my money back? :confused3

Every restaurant I've been at charges for what you order not what you eat.

The only place I've been to where they charge for uneaten pieces (although I never have been charged) is at the All-You-Can-Eat places. They do this so that you don't order 5 different rolls, but eat only half of each. I've usually left a piece or two, but have never been charged. I think you need to waste a serious amount of sushi to get charged.

I think that the poster is saying that they get charged the amount for the food plus an additional "fee" if the person doesn't finish the food.
 
I usually order a roll and a small salad and that seems enough for me but my husband orders two or more rolls and he seems ok on that. There isn't a limit on the rolls you order.
 
OK I can see being charged extra for the buffet. Since sushi is expensive then don't take more than you can eat.

I can't understand this. Suppose they ordered lots so they could take some home with them? If I order $40.00 worth of sushi but I don't finish it they'll charge me $60.00 for the meal?
