how much sushi is normal to order?

According to this site,

http://www.sushifaq.com/sushi-calories.htm

that would be between 1800 and 2000 calories worth of sushi. I'm all for splurging on a special occasion, but I do think it would result in some weight gain if it was a 'regular' lunch!

I usually go with friends and we share 2-3 rolls between 2 of us, or 3-4 rolls between 3 of us. I find sushi very filling.

Great, now I'm craving sushi ;).

I wouldn't be payin' attention to you and how much sushi you're eating.

If I'm at a sushi place, all I'm focused on is me. :lmao:

It is 10:30 in the morning and I am now CRAVING sushi somethin' fierce. Thanks, OP! ;)

Mmm... Sushi :yay:

We usually order 2-4 rolls between the two of us and I end up eating about 1- 1 1/2 rolls. I like to get edamame sometimes and a ginger salad.

I ate sushi 3 times in the last 4 days, while traveling for work. This is what I had:

Day 1 - Seaweed Salad, 1 spicy tuna roll (8 pieces) and 1 crab salad/avocado roll (6 large pieces). The last few pieces I had to start eating the fish out of the middle and leaving the rice as I was STUFFED!

Day 3 - Seaweed Salad, 1 spicy tuna roll (8 pieces) and 2 unagi sushi pieces. This was a perfect amount.

Day 4 - I went to a sushi 'boat' place, where the rolls are mainly 4 pieces per plate, and the sushi pieces are 2 pieces per plate. I had: Spicy Tuna roll (do you see a trend here. LOL), unagi sushi, Yellowtail/Avocado roll and an Inferno roll. At this point, I was debating grabbing another plate, as it seems most people around me had 6 or more plates piling up, but I was getting a bit 'sushi'ed out' by this point and was adequately stuffed.

The size of different sushi rolls varies by ALOT. My husbands dynamite rolls are 3 times the diameter of my tuna roll or california roll. It is like he is eating one piece for every 2-3 of mine.

Having said that my super thin 9 yr old dd will eat 2-3 cucumber avocado rolls by herself. I normally order 3 rolls-a tuna roll, cucumber avocado roll, and california roll and that is our meal. We don't normally do a soup, appetizer or salad with sushi.

We had sushi friday night. We had spicy tuna (appetizer), soft shelled crab (appetizer) and an eel roll that was huge. There are two of us and we brought home 5 pieces of the eel roll!

1 roll is usually enough for me, but I could do probably 1 1/2 rolls. We took a sushi making class last year and there were people eating rolls and rolls and rolls. ugh.

If I know that we are going to eat at a good sushi restaurant, I will starve myself for the day and eat about 25 pieces. If it is average sushi, I eat about 12 pieces.

I love sushi. :thumbsup2

hahahaha!!! the last time we went for sushi, my dbf ate 5 rolls by himself. :scared1: i thought he was gonna explode!

I normally eat 6-8 pieces of sushi roll, so maybe 1 1/2 rolls. You are eating a lot of sushi for one person. If you were a man I would think it were more "normal."

I have never tried sushi. I would love to try it, I love seafood of all kinds but my husband doesn't eat any seafood at all. Someday I will try it.

If you are ordering FIVE Sushi rolls JUST FOR YOURSELF then yes you are over-eating like crazy. If you don't plan on changing how much food you order or eat then why ask? You know eating 5 Sushi rolls is enough food for 2 or 3 ppl but you say you order that just for yourself. I can imagine a SERIOUS weight problem in your future if you keep eating like that, JMO.

Just wanted to say that I just learned to make my own sushi, using a little gadget called the Sushezi (Amazon). Super easy to use, and makes awesome sushi for very cheap. It is now my children's favorite lunch item...made with veggies only. I can make 5 LARGE rolls in less than 10 minutes (assuming the rice is cooked). They look and taste great.

haha whoops then i guess i eat a lot of sushi. i'm pretty thin and i work out several times a week, so maybe it doesn't show because of that. i don't get anything else (soup, salad, etc) that others are mentioning. oh well.. my sushi is yum lol

thanks for answering!

In my experience, veggie rolls are much smaller than rolls with fish in them. Veggies can also be less filling. While I don't think I could eat that many, I'm not sure you're going as overboard as some of the replies on here would indicate.

I do agree, however, that this thread has made me crave sushi in a big way :-)

I will typically get 1 shrimp tempura roll, and one philly roll, and then order an entree and eat about 1/2-3/4 of it. I don't get a caloric beverage/wine/saki though. Actually I think DH and I get 3 rolls and split them, he likes spicy tuna. So, 3 split and an entree.
