How much pregnancy weight did you gain?

I dug out an old book I got in high school called Our Bodies, Our Selves. It says women should gain between 25 and 30 lbs. But online I read that it should be between 30 and 40 lbs. Maybe my book is outdated and medically inaccurate?

I'm 120 lbs now. What would be a good weight for me to aim for or not aim for?

My mom said she gained 35 lbs with me and Will's mom said it was around the same with 2 of her children and with the third she gained 60.

How much weight did you gain, if you don't mind me asking?

With both my boys I gained 30 pounds.

It is truly different with every person. With my first son I was very sick and I actually lost weight and never gained anything with him. Then with my youngest son I gained 11 pds.

I have a friend who just had a baby. She gained 40, but was almost all belly.

Just eat healthy and your body will use what it needs. I gained 15-20lbs with my boys.

Yes, that. I am overweight, so I always loose weight when I am pregnant because I eat so much more healthful. Would love to keep doing that after the baby is born, but never seemed to work yet.

I wouldn't focus on weight gain, etc. Just eat when your hungry...stop when you are full and eat healthfully with a few exceptions here and there ;) and you will be fine.

I gained about 45 lbs, I was underweight (so not anymore!!) when I found out I was pregnant, so probably at least 10 of that "was catch up to healthy weight pounds!"

Eat when you are hungry and do not eat an entire package of Ritz crackers!! lol something about salt and swelling! :lmao:

With my first I was very sick, so lost 17 lbs. I had to gain that back and a little more. I gained 22 with that pregnancy, and 21 with my second. Tried as I might to indulge (for the first time in my life, without guilt), I couldn't gain all that much.

This seems to be something that is always changing. I would wait and ask my doctor when you see him/her.

Congrats to you BTW :goodvibes

Well I am currently 22 weeks pregnant with my 1st! Our little boy is due May 16th.:lovestruc ....at my 20 week Dr. appointment I gained a total of 9 lbs. I was told 25 to 30 was average. I was also told 30 to 40 if you are underweight pre pregnancy. However, I would not stress about weight. Every pregnancy is different.

I have a good friend who is the exact same way :goodvibes.
I'm really small, my first pregnancy I stressed out over not gaining as much weight as the books were saying but the doctor kept telling me it was all good. My first weighed in at 8lbs 9oz so it worked out. He was not malnourished.

I think 25-30 must be the going rate for an "average" weight person (not under, not over).

I'm not *too* nervous about gaining 30, as it will have me at the same weight I was before I lost 20 pounds in preparation for this pregnancy.

I weighed about 135 and then gained another 35 while pregnant.

I'm 5'6/135 and gained 60 lbs  with each son! :sad2: :sad2:
Almost 200 lbs by the time I delivered each son! I can't believe I did that and I did it twice. There is 4 years between my sons.

But I joined WW after each kiddo and lost all the weight twice! :thumbsup2

Way too much! I ended up gaining 57 pounds. I do not recommend this at all, but it did come off and I'm not about 12 pounds under my prepregnancy weight. It took about a year to lose the whole 57 though. I breastfed and the first 40 or so came off pretty fast, but the rest were pretty slow.

Looking back my portions were out of whack and I definitely 'splurged' a lot on ice cream and cookies. I also made a habit out of having 'second' breakfasts of yogurt and granola at 10:00ish. Sigh. Next pregnancy I will be more strict.

They do say your body will gain what it needs to, but what you eat matters too.

I'm 5'5 and 120 lbs and so I'm not under weight, I think I'm where I am supposed to be for my frame. So I'll try not to lose any weight. So far I have a good appetite, just nausea in the mornings with no vomiting. I hope it doesn't get worse where I can't eat. The smell of cooking meat makes me sick and I hope I get over that soon because my husband loves steak.

I'm sure my OB will talk to me about this, but i just wanted to ask here because there are so many mothers here.

I gained somewhere between 25 and 30 pounds -- most of it in the last couple of months.

I started at about 135 and delivered at 151.. so I gained 16lbs. I had a 7lb baby, and lost all the weight within about 2 months, plus some more now. I ate healthy and stayed active, walking almost every day and going to the gym 3 times a week :)

I gained 24 lbs with each of my 3 boys. I was very sick with #1 and 2, so i lost weight and then gained the 24 from that lower weight. All my babies were big.

Similar situation with me. I lost 11 lbs with my first DD because of morning sickness. I was 115 and got down to 104. But I eventually was able to eat in the 2 trimester and gained right at 25. With my second DD, I didn't have morning sickness and I gained 20 lbs. I probably would have gained 25 but she was 5 weeks premature.
Now, almost 16 years later, I weigh more than I did at my heaviest during pregnancy. That's not good.
