How much per day do you tip Mousekeeping?

We tip $5 a day and $10 on our last day and for turndown service we tip $3 and $5 on our last day:thumbsup2

We tip $5 per day for 4 of us. Always had a very clean room (I really look for clean bathrooms!) at YC :thumbsup2

I’m a little taken aback by some of the posters who indicate that the amount of mess that they make influences their tipping habits. I hope their parents raised them a little better than to trash a hotel room.

 Oh, Please, it is not about "trashing" the hotel room. It is about the kids leaving their toys scattered about. It's not like we are leaving trash all over the room, the tv on it's side, and underware hanging from the lampshade. To bad your parents didn't teach you about not saying anything when you don't have anything nice to say.

A lot of things factor in to leaving a tip, regardless of where you are at, hotel, resterant, etc. . . The service, how much trouble you were, the atmosphere, etc. . . I appreciate everyone's input. We are a family of 4 so we will probably leave $5 Per Day based on what I have read here.

and underware hanging from the lampshade.

You mean this is inappropriate? Boy, I should have been leaving bigger tips! J/K!!

Seriously, I tip based on how much crap they have to clean around. If we bring 4 suitcases for 3 people and they are cleaning around strollers, coolers, toys, etc. they get bigger because they are having to take a longer time to do the room because of my crap.

I don't mind tipping, but I hate tipping daily because I feel like I am being cheap. Yet, I hate to tip weekly, too. Like other posters have said, what if the sub does the room the day you leave the big tip. Then the regular person gets stiffed.

We also do $1/person per day (family of 5 = $5), and I leave $2 for nightly turndown housekeeping.

I have always just left $2 or $3 a day....even though there are 5 of us, we (I!) leave the room immaculate....I cannot stand a messy hotel room!

But, I just read "Nickel and Dimed" where a writer went "undercover" and worked a succession of low-wage jobs (diner waitress, Merry Maids and WalMart). I think from now on, I'll tip $5 a day.

I will say that before I frequented this board, I had never heard of tipping housekeeping.

Note to all "new" tippers: It may sound compulsive, but it is really a good idea to prepare your tip envelopes before you leave for your trip (even if you DON'T decorate them!). Mornings can be such a rush that it's just adds a layer of stress to be digging for $1s or $5s for the tip.

This is so true. Last trip, the mornings were so rushed at times, I actually left $5 under a napkin on which I wrote "for mousekeeping, thank you"

I gotta make up those envelopes next time!

I second that! I have the tip envelopes done for my September trip already (A bit OCD, I actually did them when I got back from my April trip because I had lots of cash in small bills from getting change and shoving it in my bag!) and the envelopes are already in the passporter daily envelopes...when I grab the passporter envelope for the day, I put out that day's tip at the same time.

We tip $5/night. We tip $5 per room.
Some times its just my husband and me and other times its my youngest daughter, grandson and me.

Seriously, you are better off leaving tips DAILY, not once a week. The maid we had at POR FQ was wonderful! Towel animals (not that they were expected, but a lovely surprise), refilled the coffee, room was clean and vacuumed, etc. The fourth or fifth day we came back and the room was a mess...the beds were half made (she didn't even put the pillows or bedspreads on the bed), towels and washcloths were in a pile IN the sink, the 1/2 pizza we had gotten the night before from the food court that was saved to be our midnight snack had been removed from the fridge and was on the dresser. God only knows why she left it out, she hadn't taken anything else out of the fridge. So we had to throw it out.

Our last day we met our maid when we were getting ready to go. She came to the room to tell me how much she loved the envelopes her tips were in...and we told her how much we appreciated how she kept the room, and that one day she must have been gone because we had appalling service...yep, it was her day off and a sub had done the room. If I had left the whole tip for the week on the day that sub did the room, our maid, who was marvelous, would have gotten nothing. I always leave tips daily to make sure the maid who actually takes care of the room gets the tip.

northie

once again the boards come throught with some great info...

Agreed. Staying at a resort is not like being on a cruise, where the same staff takes care of your needs for the duration of the trip.

For the record, we also had a housekeeper run down the hall to meet us one day when we were heading back to the parks after our afternoon nap to thank us for leaving the extra gratuity and to tell us how much it meant to her. Obviously, it doesn't happen very often...

so right.

Hey, we go September 19 too! :) Maybe we will run into each other! I see we are also going to MNSSHP on Sept. 21 :)

I have my envelopes all printed and filled, and in the passporter. I put each day's tip envelope in the passporter envelope...when I grab the passporter envelope for the day, I put out the Mousekeeping tip at the same time so I know I won't forget :)

This trip I was really prepared, I had lots of small bills left from our April trip so I printed and filled the September Mousekeeping envelopes when we got back in April! :goodvibes I am a planner, but I am not usually THAT organized!
