Me again...

How much more $ does it usually cost for a non stop flight? We will be flying either from Burlington VT or from Montreal. Anyone have any idea? Aproximately?

In order of cheapist to more expensive is:

Buffalo, NY
Toronto
Montreal
Burlington, VT

If you can get to buffalo it takes a chunk out of the price. If you can't I would fly out of Montreal non stop flights will be more that stoping in TO. They should be anywhere from $199 - $500 cdn.

In response to your other question, there is no such time when theairfares are cheaper.

You mean airfares stay the same price once they are released?

I dont think so. I have read several posts here stating that people wait for cheaper airfares to come out before they book.

Maybe I am miss-understanding you, but when I booked our flights for December I was surprised to find that the cheapest flights for us out of Cleveland were the NON_STOP flights. All the flights that had any kind of stop cost more. Maybe I just got lucky, but maybe you will get lucky too. :)

If you aren't using one of the scheduling sites already, try www.Orbitz.com. I really liked how the flights were laid out and how you could easily see how many stops a plane was going to make (and filter by how many you would accept). For me there was no question, zero stops.

Believe it or not, there is no hard and fast rule for airfares. On any given day fares can go up or down for no apparent reason and without regard to how many stops the flight makes. It's much more dependent on which specific airlines have big sales in progress. For example, when Continental is running a sale, flying from Cleveland is great because it's a Continental hub. Otherwise it might be cheaper to fly another airline or even from another airport because the Cleveland's hub status gives Continental a monopoly on many routes. Another story: when I was researching fares for my September Disney trip, the numbers were hovering around $220 RT for a couple of weeks. Suddenly USAirways dropped to $140 with a layover in Pittsburgh. I printed all the various flight options and showed them to my wife that night. She picked the flights she liked best and I tried to book them the next morning. By then the price was back up to $220. A few days later Continental was offering non-stop flights at $177 RT. I went through the whole approval process with the wife again, and by the following morning Continental had raised the fare to OVER $700 for non-stops! A few days later, they went back down to $177 and I booked the fare only to see it drop even further at a later date. The moral of the story is that you should monitor the fares for a few weeks to get a general feel for the intricacies of pricing for your particular route. Best bet is to try several combinations of airports until you find a reasonable fare with an itinerary you can live with.

working in res for an airline I can tell you that there were so many times I would look for lifhts for someone and I have seent he price change in as little as 2 min. its the game of availability. and when people are looking to book a flight and they have the agent check for them they grab seats as they look not knowing what the passenger will want and that takes a seat from inventory. until that seat is released and put back by cancelling it the price doesn't fluctuate.

there is no rhyme or reason in how they do these fares and sales. when you hear of one carrier starting a sale the others generally follow. especially if its in a city where southwest flies from. some of the best sales are from when other carriers start to fly from that one airport...they have great introductory rates!

I have also found that some of the direct flights are cheaper then connecting. I also don't get why it's usually cheaper to fly round trip then one way.

Disneydreamerinny, would you consider driving down to Albany NY? Since Southwest came in there we've got much better rates, both on them and USAir. Lots more direct flights too.

Just a suggestion, hope something works out well for you.
