I completely understand that everyone has different needs/spending habits on holidays but we're off in August to Orlando and I'm now getting concerned about how much to take with us. Its 2 adults and a 5 year old.

We were planning on taking £1600 (so about $2800), but I have no idea how much it costs to eat out???

We have all tickets paid for already and will be using public transport to get around, planning on eating a big breakfast, having a couple of snacks during the day and then a sit down meal in the evenings - plus a bit of shopping (not masses!) and some presents.

Does anyone have any idea if this will be enough or if I'm totally out as I'm getting quite worried about it now. How much do people normally take to have a good time without worrying about money??

Thankyou very much!!

Emma

How long is your trip, and are you staying on site? Do you plan to take taxis to other places?(Universal, Sea World, malls, etc.?)

hiya,
thanks for replying, sorry, i shouldve included those details too shouldnt i.

we're staying at quality inn international

have tickets to sea world and transport provided to seaworld, busch gardens and universal but not to disney parks so were planning on bus or taxi to them but unsure of prices or practicality of each of those options.

We are staying for 2 weeks.

Thankyou!

How long is a piece of string?!! :)

As you say, everyone has different needs / spending habits, I took £800 of travellers cheques and £400 in dollars my partner also took £1000. We were there for 17 days, we also took a credit card for emergencies :)

We had bought all our park passes beforehand and so all our money was for food, drinks and presents. We came back with about $300 between us, but I should add that I did go mad in the gift shops and bought lots of stuff!

Hiya

Good news is that Quality Inn International provides a shuttle to Seaworld, Discoery Cove and Universal. Thats a saving there.

Mears offer transportation to Disney world you can buy a special pass that gives you useage for certain zones. The website shows current prices have a look at this site you can at least budget your travel expenses www.mearstransportation.com

Food was about for an adult meal $6.99 in the parks, which do not include any drinks. www.allears.net I think this is the site. It offers all prices for resturants in WDW. Again you will be able to budget your food from this site aswell. I would imagine the food prices would be just as expensive in all parks. At least your staying on Int Drive. You can choose McDonalds for cheap lunches or you can choose some cheaper resturants for evenings. Some offer all you can eat for around $15.00 per adult on Int Drive this was a couple of years ago. Last year we stayed at Disney and only ate at Disney.

It all depends on how much you want to spend on merchandise and what Disney tickets you are after. Disney.co.uk were offering unlimited 14 days pass for the price of 7, this was 167.00 per adult. If you would prefer pick the tickets up over here and just calculate how much you want to spend on merchandise or any other shopping. Small beanie toys were about $16 when we went and $24.99 for bigger toys. We have budgeted $100 for merchandise per day, but we are taking 3 children.

I hope this helps. It really pends on how big you want to make it. Oh and bottled drinks were £2.50 each!

As you say, a very difficult question to answer.
Personally I would say $2800 is enough, the only doubt is how much shopping you will do.
We , wife/young son and I , tend to take just over $2000, however, this coming August will probably take more than that as we do a fair bit of shopping and normally just use credit cards which we do not want to do this time so will probably take closer to $3000.
Each time we go generally bring back $400-$500 so we just give ourselves that cushion really.

Plus we are going twice this year too.

We have Universal A/P and Disney A/P.

Aside from shopping, food is what we spend the highest amount on - we do not eat out a lot, however, as we stay in a villa I would say we spend a good $300 on groceries plus we eat out (or takeaway) at restaurants such as the Outback etc

me and my dbf take $3000 each, but thats because we will be doing all our christmas shopping, also he is buying a romote control plane which will cst the earth. I also like to buy swarovski jewelry

Me and my gf usually take around £1000 between us for 2 weeks, all park tickets paid for beforehand. So that is mainly for food and misc costs. We don't buy too many souvenirs so that should give you an idea of the cost of food/drink. We eat out nearly every night, only time we dont is if we get a takeaway and bring back to hotel room (Marriott Fairfield - LBV) such as a chinese or a Sub which can cut costs quite a bit as there is no tip to pay. Hint - if you plan to eat in room get some disposable plates and cutlery, cheap and practical! I take credit card for extras, gifts etc and will be needing it this year as I plan to buy my gf an engagement ring from Tiffany's! :lovestruc
