We are leaving in 9 days!!!! It will be me, DH, DS-3yrs, DD-4months. I have started our packing and I am getting so overwhelmed with how much I have to pack!!!! I'm starting to regret our decision to go!! I have one suitcase for DD (24"), one suitcase for my, DH's & DS clothes (28") (hopefully it won't be over the weight limit!!), one suitcase full of water bottles (to make DD's formula) and some toilletrie things (24"), one suitcase of toilletries & diapers (19"), and a good size duffle bag with shoes & sandals for everyone and diapers. Plus 2 carryons, and a diaper bag. This is just way too much stuff!!!!!!!! I really wish I could break this down, it's just too much!!! But it seems that I will need everything, especially with a baby! HELP ME!!!!!!!

can you ditch the bottled water and most of the diapers and buy them when you get there? That would help A LOT! One run to the store to get those items would save a lot of stress - even if you have to pay a taxi. Same applies for forumla (unless you're using a hard to find type - basic Similac and Enfamil would be easy to find).

Take what you need for the flight, allow one extra diaper change and one extra bottle.

Simple things like sunblock can be bought at a local grocery too. Just have a list of what you need and get it on one trip when you first get there. It wouldn't even be necessary for the whole family to go - one adult stay at the resort with the kids, the other go shopping with the list.

I agree! Don't pack the water or the diapers or wipes. Pack your diaper bag as if you were going on an all day outing. The things you would have if you were spending the entire day at the zoo. That is all the baby stuff that I recommend that you bring for the trip. Few exceptions - add about 5 or 6 extra bottles (empty), and a bottle brush.

Then when you get to WDW, you have a few options: Rent a car- make grocery stop yourself, car service with grocery stop, taxi, or grocery delivery like wegoshop.com. Grocery delivery would be my choice. Mom is on vacation too!

Then you could get the bottled water, formula, diapers, wipes, and dishsoap (for washing the bottles). You could also pick up some drinks and snacks for the rest of the family and save a few $.

To ease your mind about luggage being over the weight limits, pack an empty duffle (that lays flat) at the top of the suitcase. If any of the suitcases are too heavy, you can repack it at the airport check in counter. I am like you, I like to pack things we need but also struggle with keeping the amount of luggage to a minimum. I'm glad I packed an empty duffle, a few pairs of shoes put us over the limit!

I'm right there with you.....I'm a serious overpacker. I have all these "what-if's" in my head. What if it gets cold one night? We need pants. What if we spill something on our shirts? We need extras. What if we get hungry in the middle of the night? We need food in the hotel room. It's endless LOL!!

But luckily, we never fly on our vacations....we just drive. And we only live 2.5 hours from The World. I usually have a suitcase for each of us (me, DH, and 2 year old DD), a bag for the dog when he occasionally comes with us, a bag of toys for DD, a bag of food, a cooler, a stroller, and a bag for "whatevers" (DVD's, CD's, paper, pen, cell chargers, etc.).

Sorry, I know I am absoltely no help here LOL.

Ooo, I LOVE this idea! Thanks! I agree with all the pp that you can ditch the H2O, formula, diapers and wipes and get it when you get there! Another suggestion I read somewhere on these boards is to ship diapers, wipes, etc to the hotel.

The way I am "planning" to pack (which I don't need to worry about until October) is a suitcase for DH, a suitcase for me, a suitcase for DS and DD...then a little suitcase we bought for DS last time we went for "useable" items, or things I don't plan to return with...that way the little suitcase is able to carry souveniers home for us!

Check out the Organizational post if you haven't already, I think that is where I read the shipping idea. I use the idea of packing DS's and DD's items by outfit in gallon size zip bags. :thumbsup2 Each bag gets the shirt, shorts, underwear, socks, etc. It is so easy to throw a bunch of ziplocks in the suitcase! Then I throw in the light coats, a couple of long sleeve warmer shirts and long pants. I found it saves room for other stuff doing this too and each morning you can grab a bag for your baby and toss your older one of his and their complete outfits are ready to be worn!

I hope this helps you a bit! Good luck and congrats on your trip! I am sooooo jealous! :fish:

That is an awesome idea, I was worried about packing over the limit too.

The duffel trick is great, and I always use it, but it will only work when you are not up to the limit on your max. number of checked bags. If the baby is being lap-carried on the plane, that max. is 6, and you're already right up against it just on what you want to check, and you didn't even count carseats and a stroller. So ... stop right now, take everything out of the suitcases, and start over!

Personally, I would go with just the 28" + the diaper bag, and one carryon containing valuables and the 3 yo's toys for the plane. If you want to go generous and add the 24" as a checked bag you should should be perfectly fine, but ditch the rest of it.

DO NOT PACK GRADUALLY INTO SUITCASES! They hide content once it is in, causing duplication. Pack on a big flat surface like a bed or table, do your checklist, and then have ONE person put everything into suitcases all at once. As you are deciding what to bring, pack the children's outfits into ziploc bags and squish out the air. You and your DH should pack for no more than 5 days, if you are there longer you should do a load of wash. Make sure that every item of clothing matches at least 2 others, so that you are not packing "outfits" for the adults. No "matching shoes" either -- bring walking shoes and water shoes, but 2 prs. ttl. per person should be enough (no shoes at all for the baby; socks will do.) Unless you already have ressies at V&A, no dressy clothes; one pr. of long khakis for DH and a light skirt for you will be nice enough for any other place you might go (you get 1 extra pr. of flat sandals if you bring a skirt.) All of the jewelry you are bringing should be on your body, and it should be real, so that you won't set off the metal detector at security.

Make up a separate family travel bag of toiletries, and bring small sizes; the only extra for the kiddies should be no-tears shampoo, which you can use to wash the whole baby. (Beauty supply shops sell empty 4 oz. bottles cheap, btw.) Unless you have really sensitive skin, you and your DH can probably use the hotel toiletries, though a small bottle of chlorine-removal shampoo is a good idea. Unless you take Rx narcotics, you can put any Rx meds into pill cases and leave the original bottles at home. Any other meds should all be able to fit into one sandwich baggie.

The diaper bag must contain a change of shirt that will fit either you or DH (in case one of the kids throws up on you), a spare change for both children, large ziplocs, a good-sized bag of wipes, and enough food and diapers for the baby for a 24 hour period, just in case you get stuck in an airport. Also, snacks for the 3 yr. old., for the same reason -- when airports get shut down, the food disappears fast. The carryon should contain several entertainment items for the 3 yo, medications, + any cameras or computers you have, a change of underwear for both you and DH, and your paperwork. Use a small purse for yourself, and put it inside the diaper bag. Carry your ID (and nothing else except maybe a spare binky) in your pocket while travelling.

Either go to the store once you arrive for the extra diapers and water, or use a delivery service like wegoshop.
