Gas may be $250 or so (who knows what prices will be, currently we are at $3.40)

So that's about $2500. Adding in BBB and pirate league plus meals traveling, and clearance souvenirs I am stocking and ones we will buy I bet it will be $3k minimum.

Our first trip so I can't say if it's expensive!

IMHO...you did great!

Our next "big" trip will be a month long stay...We're doing a split stay between the King Kamehameha suite at the Poly and Admiral Suite at the YC. We're doing 15 nights at each. The Poly stay will total $37,350 ($2490 per night). The YC stay will be $26,850 ($1790 per night).

We fly privately and that cost is $2000/hour, so roughly $12,000 for the total flight.

As for food, we have a "big" meal planned every other day. We are a family of 6. I'm thinking a rough estimate for food, maybe $350 per day to average out when we eat at character meals and when we don't....So, food costs is $10,500.

Our annual tickets are already purchased.

We also rent a vehicle, which will cost us about $4000 for the month.

So, total is about $100,000 on this trip once you add in souvenirs and other surprise costs. This is the first time we have EVER stayed this long and it will probably be the last time for a little while. I'm afraid my family will get bored being there so long, but it's something my husband and I have always wanted to do!!

I realize this is certainly not the "average" of what people spend at Disney on their vacations.

By your screen name, did you win the lottery??? Lol...

This thread got me wondering, so I went back and looked at what we spent for our 3 trips (in 2009, 2010, and 2012). All three times it was me and my son (he was 4 in 2009, 5 in 2010, and 7 in 2012). We flew each time and stayed at AKL. In 2009 and 2010, we went in early May, before rates went up for the summer. In 2012, we went during spring break (son was in 1st grade, so visiting in early May wasn't an option). Each time we were gone 7 nights (Tues-Tues or Sat-Sat)

In 2009, we took advantage of Disney's 4 nights get 3 free promotion. Plane tickets were $72 one way! I "splurged" on a savannah-view room. Made no ADRs (dining was mostly quick service), but we did eat at the brewery at the Boardwalk and the Yak and Yeti (inside, sit-down location) at AK. We may have eaten at Boma, but I can't remember for sure. Total spent on room, tickets (no park-hopper or other add-ons), food, souvenirs (I can't tell from my spreadsheet if that includes airfare or not) = $2651.

In 2010, I think Disney was running a 30% (might have been 40%) off room-only promotion. Again stayed at AKL, but in a standard room with no view (unless the bus stop/smoking area counts). Plane tickets were $99 one way, and I had enough points to get one free ticket. I also signed up for a Disney VISA and after one purchase received a $200 gift card. That paid for nearly the entire one-week child's ticket for my son. Again, no add-ons to the tickets, but we did both spend one day at Blizzard Beach. We ate a lot better on this trip (ADRs at Tusker House breakfast, Boma, and Ohana). Also, my sister was with us, and I paid for most of her meals (but not park tickets, and there was no surcharge for her to share the room with us). Total spent according to my trusty spreadsheet (again not sure if it includes airfare) = $2946.

2012...Spring break (2nd full week of March). We were hammered on hotel room costs and airfare. I wanted to stay at the Poly, but it was just too much. Rooms at Aulani over spring break were going for less than the Poly (alas, airfare to Hawaii was too expensive). I spent over $700 on two round-trip tickets to MCO (we were also flying from a different city, since we moved after the 2010 trip) that weren't even non-stop! Disney was only offering a 10% or 15% discount on the room. Booked a standard room at AKL, but received a free upgrade to a savannah view room. I also got Park Hoppers this time (as a precautionary measure because I was expecting high crowds - as it turned out, we didn't really need them). ADRs at Tusker house breakfast, Boma, and Ohana. I can't remember the exact number, but the total spent on everything (and I know this includes airfare) = ~$4800.

Pros to visiting over spring break compared to May - with the exception of one day (cold and rainy) the weather was beautiful! I didn't break a sweat the whole time we were there! Our May visits were pretty hot and even uncomfortable at times. I must say, the cooler weather did impact when and how many times we rode rides where you get wet! Son already had time off of school, and I would have taken the week off to be with him, so might as well spend it in WDW.

Cons to visiting at spring break - Cost (obviously) and crowds (although May 2010 was much more crowded than I expected). We were able to manage the spring break crowds, though, and ride all of our favorites multiple times. I also didn't like the later park hours (which means later fireworks and parade times). In May, the parks close early. We are early risers (always at the park before it opens), so it is hard to stay out much past 9. We completely missed Illuminations and really did not enjoy Wishes because my son was exhausted. We did see the MSEP, and it was really interesting to be at AK before sunrise (there were EMH hours at 7 am one morning).

I think the comparison of costs (not just Disney, but the airlines, too) for a "low" season visit vs "peak" season is really interesting. As with most vacations, the time of year you choose to visit really has a huge impact. Also, Disney's discounts and promotions aren't nearly as good now as they were a couple of years ago. Granted, I could have gotten a better discount if we'd stayed at another Disney resort, but we LOVE AKL. The food is great, the resort is a manageable size, and I have NEVER had an issue with the bus service. We typically also spend two days at AK, so it is great to be so close.

In June, I booked our first Disney cruise (7 nights) out of Galveston for Thanksgiving. Total was just under $3500 (double the price of other weeks in Nov). I paid another ~$80 for trip insurance (not through Disney). We save on airfare because we can drive to the port. I received $150 in onboard credits (through travel agent and Disney Visa). I can't book them, yet, but I priced our excursions, and expect to spend about another $600 (not including OBCs and tips). If I had booked earlier, I probably could have saved $1000. Out of curiosity, I priced a 2013 Thanksgiving cruise, and it was only about $2500-$2600 (same room category).

Bottom line for me...as long as it is my son and myself traveling, I expect to spend over $3k. If we travel at peak/holiday times, add another $1k premium to that. Certainly, I could save money by downgrading hotels or traveling at other times, but being able to travel when school is out is a huge priority.

10 nights, 11 days MYW plus regular dining with 10 day park hopper tickets for 2 adults, 2 children= $3418
Gas/Travel meals- $225
Spending $ (including tips)= usually around $350

Total= $3993
The worth of spending 11 wonderful days with my husband and daughters, just having fun and not worrying about work or home= PRICELESS!!!!!!

We pared ours down quite a bit and at first we were looking at about $6500 for 3 adults, for 13 nights. Now with some changes on our end we'll probably come in about $5200 including flights, thanks to FD mostly.

I just got off the phone and here is what I spent

November 25th-December 1st (6 nites @ Sports)
2 day tickets for each of us
Free QS Dining
$1,038.26

I will trade in the 2 day tickets for renewals on our Florida weekday AP's for about $3 more for the year and will book at least one more trip in 2013, probably two.:thumbsup2

Slightly Goofy

Right at $3K for three nights CR tower Bay Lake view with three day hoppers and free dining for two adults and two teens. Fuel will probably run around $150 or so, tips for dinner, bell svc and tolls around $100. Ouch! This is Oct 4-7. Will probably book r/o at a value for the night befor so add on around $150 or so for that.

2 adult and 2 Kids ( 4 adults in Disney speak)
June 16 - 29
7 night on fantasy $5200 cat 4a
3 night ssr on points
3 night vero on points
Dining $700
Activities (golf, sea doo, spa, etc) $750
Souvineers $750
Travel 1,000 miles each way gas, fod and hotel $1,000
Had prior never expire park tickets
Total $9400

Right now here is where we stand:

5 nights at BWI CL (10% pin discount currently) - $2,819.81
Premier APs (Florida Portion only) - $588.70
7 restaurant meals + V&A + F&W - approx. $1,000
TIW Card - $75
Flight from NYC to Orlando - $225.60
Flight from Orlando to L.A. - $35 (rest was credit card points)

So, I think we are currently at $4,745 for this trip, which is an extension of a 2 1/2 week trip to Europe (that is why we are only counting airfare from NYC to Orlando, since Berlin to NYC is post-Europe). Hoping for a better discount on the room to take about $800 off the total.

When I look at the whole total, I feel like  , but it's worth it. I have never regretted a single vacation we've taken.

5 nights at AoA in a Finding Nemo suite for 3 adults and 1 child (Oct 21-26)
6 day park hoppers with water park add on
Deluxe dining plan

That's all coming to about $4300. It should come down by about $500 once I get the Free Dining discount taken off. We were going to do POFQ and it would have been $4000, down to $3150 after the discount. But of course you only get the quick service plan with a value room, so there's a higher cost to upgrade to deluxe. But we've got a lot of TS booked, particularly places like CRT and Narcoosee's, so it's cheaper to upgrade than pay OOP.

Our first Disney trip was this past March 4-10.
6 nights at POR with free dining, 5 MYW tickets with waterpark and more= $2765.
We stayed offsite on March 3 and stopped in GA on our way back home.
Total misc. for gas, two offsite hotels, souvenirs, etc. was $1600.
So, all together the trip was $ 4365.
I bought breakfast foods for mornings and purchased soft drinks and water prior to trip. Already planning for our trip next year for Nov/Dec. Attempting to spend around the same amount.
